New Sussex website

So I see there is a brand-new Duke and Duchess of Sussex website. Very glossy.

But the self-aggrandising! I just read Meghan’s bio and - cringe - it was the worst of LinkedIn. Sometimes less is more!

Netflix does not 'pay' 9 figure sums to anyone, let alone two completely unproven people. That's not how they do business.

I would have thought that Shonda Rhimes and Tyler Perry deals with Netflix could be in that range since they have a proven track record of success.

Meghan did not 'star' in suits.

Yes she did. It was an ensemble cast and she was one of the stars.

I would have thought that Shonda Rhimes and Tyler Perry deals with Netflix could be in that range since they have a proven track record of success.

But nobody, however successful, simply gets 'paid' a 9 figure sum. As someone outlined above, there will be all sorts of conditions attached, and production costs will also have to come out of the overall sum, meaning that the 'take home' amount is much less. Still a lot of money by normal standards, of course, but much less than the headline figures might suggest.

Also, given their failure to come up with the goods, as with Spotify, it seems unlikely their Netflix contract will be renewed. So it's unclear how they can continue to earn Montecito money going forward.

Eh? What's of their own making? This thread? The media? The press Meghan has had over the years has all been warranted, is that what you're saying?
Really not.

Errr... no. Not everyone is beyond outraged you know. Yes, there are flaws with their website but it really isn't the crime of the century.

This website. Of their own making.
Unless it turns out to be a spoof, which is still possible, it's so extraordinary.
Any reaction to a website for the purposes of self promotion is just that. Don't blame the reaction.
That's how they choose to live, they want publicity and clicks.

Maireas · 13/02/2024 13:51

" It isn't he crime of the century"
Such hyperbole. No-one said it was.

whatdidshedotogetahillnamedafterher · 13/02/2024 13:53

Rent a prince and the yacht girl at it again blowing their own trumpets...totally laughable.

The awful names they're bein called, the absolute indignant posts, the insults about them would lead me to believe it's more than just a website!

There's plenty of hyperbole on here about just a website!

user1984778379202 · 13/02/2024 13:54

I imagine the website switch has been in the pipeline for a little while but part of me wonders if it's been hastened in the light of the King's diagnosis to strengthen their bond to royalty, because if his estranged brother William takes the throne Harry could feasibly be sidelined forever. Not that I think Charles is at death's door, but it would be harder for William to keep Harry at arm's length if he's rebranding himself back as a working Royal (just not the supermarket-opening-ribbon-cutting kind).

Decent enough website.
Not sure what the issue is.
Still think the whole thing could have worked out differently.
They could have gone to live in New Zealand in 2020, done Rest of World engagements, Commonwealth and Invictus.
Saved themselves from the infighting and tabloid bullshit here and relations would have stayed intact.
It was a mistake to force them out.
Oh and Meghan did star in Suits. For crying out loud, she was the main female lead.

BoohooWoohoo · 13/02/2024 13:58

I don’t know why but this rebrand reminds me of Hermes rebranding to Evri. I don’t know if they ever announced why but it smacked of a desperate attempt to outrun the old reputation of being shit and unreliable.

Last year there were a lot of speculative articles saying that The Tig was returning. I wonder if that will still happen or the new battleground between the Sussexes and BRF will be commercialisation.

How can someone living in California 'rebrand themselves as a working royal'?

Only the monarch can decide if you're a working royal or not. You can't just launch a gauche website and decide you're a working royal again, in between your CHIMPO gigs and 'appearances' at awards shows.

Totally agree. They could've been an asset but they were forced out. H&M made mistakes too but it was a leaking press (Wootton) and knee jerk reactions on both sides.
Unfortunately, it reflects very badly on the RF

Of course Meghan starred in Suits and of course she wasn't the only star!

Viviennemary · 13/02/2024 14:03

They are a silly ridiculous pair. At least nearly everyone is seeing it now.

Maireas · 13/02/2024 14:06

I do wish their supporters would acknowledge that Harry and Meghan are adults. They have made choices. This website, the wording, the use of the Coat of Arms etc is their choice. Of course people will react. They're not a pair of ingénues with their first foray into publicity.

wildernesssw · 13/02/2024 14:08

'Full Alan Partridge' is a great way of putting it 😂

Though, to be fair, they are obviously aiming at the American audience, where you are expected to upsell yourself.

Though listing a short under-grad internship when you are in your 40s is a bit odd.

Unless it is something exceptional and the result of winning a prestigious award in a national competition, or something along those lines. Buy even then, you'd list the award...? 🤔

I won a 'best undergrad in this subject this year' at my uni - I don't list it on my CV😂

Actually, now I think about it I got a £20 book voucher for the best results in A-level General Knowledge in 6th form. Perhaps if I had included that on my CV my career would have been very different...!

I agree that the website’s layout is fine, it’s the bios that are poorly written. I’m genuinely surprised that they were approved and presumably paid for. That's why I asked upthread whether this website was even genuine.

They’re marketing themselves for motivational speaking gigs, which is fine in itself, but they need to hire an editor.

anotherside · 13/02/2024 13:25

They apparently got paid 100 million for Netflix alone. And 20 million for his book. If their advisors have an ounce of financial acumen they’ll be making 7 figures a year in interest alone. Think they’ll be alright.

Added to that Harry has his next tranche of inheritance coming up doesn’t he? He’ll also inherit hugely I assume when Charles dies. Plenty dosh. They could live quietly on the interest if they so choose. Unfortunately we’ll never hear the end of them .

I agree wholeheartedly. But this is them and they clearly don't think like most rational people.

Most people are beyond outraged by their self-aggrandizing website, @Roussette

You always pop up to defend the pair of them on threads like these.

Nobody said that the website was the "crime of the century" but it does demonstrate, yet again, how tone-deaf H & M are.

Especially when the King could currently benefit from more support and less embarrassing hyperbole from the Sussexes.

Let's not rewrite or rebrand history.

They weren't forced out. They were the ones who tried to force QEIIs hand by launching their website - as if the half in half out deal was a certainty.

Harry met with the Royal Family at Sandringharn based on the options presented, Harry and Meghan made the decision to leave. The late Queen was gracious enough to give them a year to cooling. After the year they still decided to leave permanently. Based on their own recollections re how they felt while in the Firm I think this was the best decision for them.

wobbledobbleflobble2 · 13/02/2024 14:15

What did you expect? This is a woman who based an entire podcast series on the fact that she thought the word "archetypes" meant "stereotypes".

Neither of them are the brightest bulbs but for some reason they're both think they're God's gift to the universe and we're blessed by their very presence.

TheShellBeach · 13/02/2024 14:16

They’re marketing themselves for motivational speaking gigs, which is fine in itself, but they need to hire an editor

It would also help if they figured out how to motivate other people, rather than telling the world how wonderful H & M are.

I wouldn't want to be motivated by a pair of talentless grifters, anyway.
