Hello 👋, I thought it might be nice to have a thread we can discuss our cheesy feelings, food delights and general discourse about the royal family.

Very true, @smilesy . More like cheap cottage cheese from the mark down section.

My husband decided to randomly bake a chocolate cake this evening.

It looks like a normal chocolate cake, happily bit into it, doesn't take like chocolate cake, but horrible tangy tobacco. He’s just explained he added cottage cheese to it to increase its protein profile 🫣 why would anyone do such a thing. Cake isn’t the go-to for a protein hit. He doesn’t even know about the cheese thread!

I'm sorry @Turtlerussell but anyone capable of wasting both cheese and chocolate AT THE SAME TIME is obviously a psychopath. Leave now.

Do not, I repeat DO NOT have a shower...

I'm like many of you on here, not really a royalist but can't stand all the royal bashing by the H&M fans. Who don't seem to understand that the Sussexes are as royal as they come!
People also misunderstand a Constitutional Monarchy, and ridiculous things are claimed about the King's power. It's not that the monarch holds much power, it's the fact that it restricts power that others could have. It's like a breaking system on an ambitious PM who would push the boundaries.
I never particularly liked Charles, but he's gone up in my estimation. The way he welcomed Meghan, was so kind to Doria, and most of all rose above the vile behaviour of the Sussexes, their lies and dissembling. Camilla ditto. The worst things have been said about these two, and they rise above it and continue to work with dignity and good humour.

Does anyone still buy this?

@Maireas I am not a royalist either, was always the opposite actually. I’m really interested in the family dynamics and how this has panned out from a psychological point of view, something I am interested in as I see narcissistic behaviour creeping into every day interactions - the Sussexes to me epitomise the trend. It’s a worrying world if you have kids emerging into maturity into this world.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 19/02/2024 09:26

@RoyallyRhubarb I didn’t know that exited!! What does it taste like?

Have you read the narcissism epidemic? It’s a robustly researched book that digs into how it influences everyday culture etc. From what I can remember it was v insightful - a while since I read it so hope I’m remembering the right book!

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 19/02/2024 09:32

@Turtlerussell I haven’t, but I will look it up, sounds right up my street. Thanks for the recommendation.

jeffgoldblum · 19/02/2024 09:41

It's vile !@Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar
Agreed @Maireas , I was surprised how upset I was when the queen died!!!
I actually cried!!!
I think what really warmed me up to Charles was how upset he clearly was when his mum died and then the crowd was calling him and saying his save the king !!!
He seemed so surprised and genuinely happy and grateful!!!
He even went over and shook hands and spoke to them , this was not a planned walkabout either, just people outside the palace!!

Also, the King's recent Christmas speech. It wasn't about him, or his family, it was about the importance of the season, about others. The only footage of the Coronation was about the volunteers who had attended - his emphasis being about their important work - not his.
It was a kind, inclusive and generous message.

StormzyinaTCup · 19/02/2024 09:51

@Maireas and @Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar - I am of exactly the same viewpoint on both the monarchy and the psychological side.

@Turtlerussell, that book sounds very interesting. There is no doubt the advent of social media has provided the narcissist with the perfect platform in which they can indulge and they take full advantage of it.

I got it once but didn't like it.

Turtlerussell · 19/02/2024 10:29

@Maireas You’ve described it beautifully. We were quite moved by his humility and he seemed genuine, rather than self-serving about it. And it was such a subtle yet effective comment on current government policies and general state of things. Whenever he appears on a tv or radio segment, he comes across as his authentic self, slightly nerdy (in a good way), humorous and compassionate. In a way that appears sincere rather than contrived. He’s had to deal with all kinds of scandal and dirty laundry in public, and he’s been fairly dignified about it, considering. He had admirable qualities which aren’t respected as much as they used to be. Now, we (as a society) tend to reward self-aggrandisement, shamelessness, the commodification of everything, objectification of women (looking at you Kardashians / reality tv starts etc.).

There is a video on youtube of a guy who analyses Catherine giving a speech vs Meghan. The presenters voice I think is a generated voice, so it's hard to listen to. If you don't bother to listen to his comparison of both speeches, and fast forward to the parts of Meghan's speech it has all the classic narcissism traits that we hear about.

Didn't Michael Buble commit some sort of DV offenses? Did I imagine that? Why would you sit there an be serenaded by him if you are a feminist and mental health advocate? Why was he even invited?

I don’t think so. He just acted a little sharp and annoyed once on a video interview with his wife.

Maybe I’m wrong but that’s all I remember.
