So Harry flew for 11 hours and then spoke to his father for 45 minutes ? Charles then bobbed to Sandringham by helicopter and Harry checked into a hotel. I mean wouldn't you think Harry would have gone to Sandringham with Charles maybe ?

As an aside we watched "The King" movie last night - initially I thought it was about KC and Harry. 😉

Oh you'll get no argument from me @IcedPurple ! , I think he's a spoilt colossal waste of space! , and his appeal will slowly dwindle the further removed he becomes from the throne!
I mean sadly for Meghan, it his position that opens the door for them currently.

I think lots of people have difficult. I definitely did. I think it did negatively affect me in some ways. I have quite low self esteem and I know I would have got better grades at school. However it has made me an empathetic and compassionate person which has helped me in relationships with people and as a parent and it's also helped me in my work. I didn't have the luxury of thousands of pounds of therapy. I just chose not to let an unhappy childhood ruin the rest of my life.

Haven’t RTFT. I agree that it was daft to come over for barely 24 hours and a 45-minute meeting. Charles wasn’t on his deathbed, he was just starting treatment.

Harry doesn’t seem self-aware- what about his huge carbon foot print for a start? The saddest part is that he’s clearly alienated his family at this point, as presumably he stayed in a hotel, because no one wanted him in their home sniffing about for book/interview material. Charles has plenty of spare rooms!

Lockupyourbiscuits · 09/02/2024 13:01

They both wanted to give two fingers to the monarchy and the U.K.
They felt they would easily win the competition and wanted to punish people for not agreeing to their demands- maybe hurt the monarchy or have them begging for them to return

They were easy pickings for the vultures that have backed Harry into this corner with all his ridiculous over sharing - what a pair of shortsighted vain , vengeful idiots

newnamethanks · 09/02/2024 13:10

This settlement will make Piers Morgan very unhappy. Excellent.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 09/02/2024 13:13

Harry and Meghan could have built that into a 'brand' much more high profile and lucrative than what the Tindalls have. Instead, they went scorched earth and scuppered the only selling point they have

They did, yes, but to do otherwise would have involved judgement, and as we've seen time and again they don't appear to have any

Hence, while they undoubtably were attacked, the need to exaggerate it - Oprah's faked headlines, the lies and all the rest - to "explain" what they'd probably already decided to do

As said before I believe Harry was another "opportunity" and that Meghan had no intention of hanging around even from the start, but of course it's purely a personal opinion and I could be wrong

diddl · 09/02/2024 13:14

He does seem now to be reliant on the press that he purportedly hates so much.

Although depending on their plans that was always likely to be the case.

Wonder if royal duties are starting to look appealing to him now?

User14March · 09/02/2024 13:16

100 million, if that was the case, and substantial damages and various gigs is more than I imagined. Surely that is enough to keep them going in Montecito in some luxury?

ArcaneWireless · 09/02/2024 12:41

I think it would have been difficult for her to go back to Suits.

It may be unseemly to be have a sexy storyline or a troublesome storyline that could create negativity. I think there would be many clauses and that would make for limited storylines and quite a headache for scriptwriters?

That said, I reckon that would have paid an awful lot more than an after dinner speech per episode.

I think her colleagues may be relieved. I think it would have undoubtedly become all about M and nobody wants to be in the shade.

I read ( and I appreciate it might not be the case ) that Meghan doesn’t want to act in the new series but is touting for an executive producer role .

Do you seriously think Netflix deposited 100 million into their bank account?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 09/02/2024 13:20

There's a new thread on the MGN settlement if anyone's interested ...

mylovelygreendress

Fair enough.

Would it not just be easier hiring someone experienced?

Mylovelygreendress · 09/02/2024 13:35

Indeed @ArcaneWireless !

User14March · 09/02/2024 14:13

@IcedPurple it’s quoted upthread, we don’t know, they’d have struck a hard bargain?
Incrementally?

@IcedPurple it’s quoted upthread, we don’t know, they’d have struck a hard bargain?

It was 'quoted' by me as a reference to a sum we hear being bandied about, but with no evidence whatsoever.

Someone who appeared to have some knowledge explained how these things work in a previous thread. Any headline sum will be a production budget. They will have to pay the costs for producing any content from that. The fees will also be paid in increments, upon producing content deemed acceptable by Netflix. After taxes, agents' fees and the likes, they won't be left with anything close to 100 million, even if that was the headline sum. And again I stress that there is no evidence at all that their deal was worth that much.

It is, however, undeniable that if Harry came on Mumsnet and talked about his childhood and the way his parents behaved, he would he advised to go NC and to keep his children away from them......

That’s certainly deniable, I think he’d be told to check his privilege, with parents who loved him,,who went out of their way to protect him in difficult circumstances, and to stop focusing on petty shit and have some empathy

I think he has to give notice to stay, like 24 hours so the staff can prepare, and he didn’t have that amount of time.

to be honest though, I think hr wanted in and out due to the optics.so a hotel was preferable, less awkward, plus he tried to leave on the quiet, so staying at an airport hotel gave him a better chance of that. If he’d not been photographed air side. We’d not habe known when he left.

CurlewKate · 09/02/2024 16:08

@Janetime what makes you think his parents loved him?

Abouttimeforanamechange · 09/02/2024 16:21

That’s not undeniable at all

But even Diana? I expect he’d love another conversation with Diana not NC

And Charles, he’ll feel it when he’s gone imo

@Janetime I still think it was a daft decision to make such a brief visit. More money than sense, tbh.

I know many other wealthy people can and do make such brief trips, it’s all rather distasteful.

CurlewKate · 09/02/2024 16:33

@Abouttimeforanamechange "What makes you think they didn't?"

Exactly. We don't know. We know absolutely nothing about them.

IcedPurple · 09/02/2024 16:34

CurlewKate · 09/02/2024 16:08

@Janetime what makes you think his parents loved him?

Don't almost all parents love their children? Even the most awful people still manage to love their own children. It's pretty hard not to love your own children in fact.

What on earth makes you think that Charles and Diana were so different from normal human beings?
