Does anyone know where Prince William is?

TallerSally · 06/02/2024 17:44

Errrrr….. where’s Willy? The press focus in the past 24 hours has been perplexing. King Charles’ diagnostic has been the top item, of course. But, bizarrely, the 2nd item has almost invariably been… Prince Harry this and that and the other. Prince HARRY??? What’s with the obsession with him? This should be about Prince WILLIAM! Yet from/about him, absolute silence. What on Earth is going on?

And please don’t start with the “he has to be at his wife’s bedside”. If Harry The Not Next In Line To The Throne And Not Counsellor of State And Can’t Stand In For The King etc etc can fly all the way from Montecito, then William The next King and He Who Should Stand In For King Charles can go visit his Dad in hospital (did he?), rush to be by his dad’s bedside (did he?), make announcements about which official duties he will take up, etc etc.

I know Prince Harry is the one the media are addicted to writing about and slagging off to drive clicks, but can they (and so many on these boards) perhaps take a break from their unhealthy obsession with H (&M) and keep the spotlight where most would expect it to be, on King Charles and, in particular, his successor Prince William?

[Title should read does anyone know...]

Carefully with the Caerphilly! That has been making me snigger for far too many decades... 😬

You guys !!! Cheese always makes an appearance!! 🤣
@Turtlerussell, interesting! I've read the book but not thought about it in those terms before! , I suppose in a family were there is a hierarchy it does repeat!
After all aren't the mafia sometimes referred to as royalty in certain circles?

Maireas · 07/02/2024 20:22

Don't criticise the gifs....

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 07/02/2024 20:24

GIFs on threads are really annoying, FYI. They add nothing to the debate. God knows why MN changed the settings to allow them.

I find them really funny actually especially at certain times.

You red my mind.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 07/02/2024 20:41

Surely Red Leicester is for the <whispers> Republicans?!

mrsmingleton · 07/02/2024 20:43

I have very plebby cheese tastes - I had a packet of Quavers the other day and they exploded my mind to use a MN RF notable phrase.

There's a bit too much of that on here..😉

Has anyone seen the photograph of Tom Cruise at the air ambulance gala? He looks a little " windswept" I'm not sure whether the "thinning hair" look might not be a better one!

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 07/02/2024 20:47

@TallerSally william is in london tonight at an air ambulance function/dinner

Poster's probably lurking to try and put an AirTag on his car so she can track him at all times and be sure he's not skiving off.

He doesn't look that well either , if you look at his jawline and the cut of his uniform he has definitely lost weight as well. It must be quite lonely being Prince of Wales , the constant feeling that your future is mapped out, England expects and all that , now suddenly there is a reminder of that with his fathers health issues and having grown up without a mother himself its no wonder that he is super protective of his children whilst his wife has surgery. He is probably also conscious that George at 10 will have a dawning realisation of what this all means for his future.

Plus the more information that is out there the harder it will be to shelter the children as people at school will be talking about their mothers and grandfathers health , which is just very odd.

Yes to all this. I don’t know why they just don’t chuck it all in and go off and bring their kids up a little more normally. I’ve wondered if it only dawns on them after they’ve had children and are confronted with the inescapable reality that their kids are going to go through the same thing. And then they’re stuck not being able to abdicate because their heir, or one of the other children might want it, so they wouldn’t in fact be able to protect them from it all.

But also, maybe the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. I can see that would be very likely be the case.

LittleTeawithmilk1 · 07/02/2024 22:01

Sorry cyclamen queen, I meant to remove the ‘quote.’ but forgot.

I’ve done it a few times recently by accident.

LittleTeawithmilk1 · 07/02/2024 22:08

I would not be surprised if William set out to manage the end of the monarchy to save his own children, I don’t think he’s a huge fan , he sees the contradictions in the role and also the cruelty of controlling someone’s destiny and now that person is his own son.

@cyclamenqueen we seem to be thinking along the same lines. I wonder if he will do so? Time will tell.

OK, well I will bring things back to the OP's posts. Does anyone agree that KP and the press is reading her posts and headlines being changed accordingly? Because I think that's what she's saying. Is there some precedent for MN posts influencing KP policy on royal visits and the royal press corps' coverage?

Does anyone agree that KP and the press is reading her posts and headlines being changed accordingly? Because I think that's what she's saying.

Folks, are you serious?????

I really never imagined I would need to spell this out, but here we go:

s a r c a s m....

Everyone got it?

OBVIOUSLY I have no idea whether KP read my post - duh.

That said, do KP and others in the PR world read MN? Of course they do - no PR professional worth their salt would ignore the discourse taking place on public discussion boards, and it would be a no-brainer for the PR folks in the royal palaces to keep an eye on what's going on on the MN's f-ing Royal Family threads, for God's sake. Of course that doesn't mean they read every single post.

How silly can this get?

Now can we've all had fun please can we get back to the topic of this thread, which is a) bizarre Harry-focused press coverage of KC's cancer diagnosis (remember, the Day 1 announcement was: "KC's got cancer and Harry's on his way"), and b) the mysterious lack of presence of KW?

Thanks for engaging with the content of this thread!

There definitely seems to be a narrative about PW not being too keen on ruling, just based on the fact that those who track such things say he isn't exactly the most active senior royal. Apparently before he resurfaced today he hadn't been seen in public since Jan 18, and he seems to disappear for months on end eg during school holidays, while claiming to be solving homelessness, world poverty, sustainability and God knows what else.

I suspect many parents would love to be able to say "I wanna be a hands-on parent!!" and take all school holidays off work.

I certainly would, but to my surprise, I can't!

@TallerSally Not really any reason why you couldn't give a straight answer to this post. It might have stopped the derailment. It's hard to tell sarcasm from someone who has posted in the manner in which you have.

Hmmmmmmm… not that hard.

Not everyone takes themselves that seriously all the time on these boards.

Relax, engage with the content, spar… this isn’t trench warfare, Team This against Team That…

Nor is it a pre-school playground… despite the repeat posters of silly gifs…

Peace

Someone on another thread said that Tom Cruise looks like Sandi Toksvig and I can't unsee it now.

William looks shattered. I know he has help with the practical side of childcare and household stuff, but you can't outsource worry, stress and the general emotional impact of a person you love being ill.

LittleTeawithmilk1 · 08/02/2024 08:12

“Relax, engage with the content, spar… this isn’t trench warfare, Team This against Team That…”

Yes OP you are absolutely right.

I have read that Kate has a nurse. Actually 2 - so working in shifts. That would indicate that she is still quite ill, or that it’s just par for the course that rich people just have nurses when unwell.

LittleTeawithmilk1 · 08/02/2024 08:28

Also, I was watching a tik tok-er (with credentials) and she pointed out the difference in the way the ‘William and Harry not seeing other’ thing is being presented on each side of the pond.

She has noted that in the UK, media headlines tend to read as though William would not be seeing Harry, the inference being the decision not to see each other is coming from William. In the US the headlines tend to read the other way around, that Harry is not planning to see William - inference that the decision is coming from Harry.

Personally, I think neither of them want to see each other, and that sort of communication can go unspoken, but understood, between siblings.

But the way some of the media of two different countries slant a story differently is interesting, at least to me.
