Does anyone know where Prince William is?

Errrrr….. where’s Willy? The press focus in the past 24 hours has been perplexing. King Charles’ diagnostic has been the top item, of course. But, bizarrely, the 2nd item has almost invariably been… Prince Harry this and that and the other. Prince HARRY??? What’s with the obsession with him? This should be about Prince WILLIAM! Yet from/about him, absolute silence. What on Earth is going on?

And please don’t start with the “he has to be at his wife’s bedside”. If Harry The Not Next In Line To The Throne And Not Counsellor of State And Can’t Stand In For The King etc etc can fly all the way from Montecito, then William The next King and He Who Should Stand In For King Charles can go visit his Dad in hospital (did he?), rush to be by his dad’s bedside (did he?), make announcements about which official duties he will take up, etc etc.

I know Prince Harry is the one the media are addicted to writing about and slagging off to drive clicks, but can they (and so many on these boards) perhaps take a break from their unhealthy obsession with H (&M) and keep the spotlight where most would expect it to be, on King Charles and, in particular, his successor Prince William?

[Title should read does anyone know...]

They already have nannies they are not raising them like normal people do. They have cleaners, chefs, secretaries and more.

You really think William is there cooking and cleaning right now? Organising lunches for the kids and making them dinner? Sorting out doctors, dentist appointments and so on. Will he having to handle washing all the clothes and making sure they are put away?

Dream on!

And with flexible working now a days most partners coukd work from home and still do all that stuff!

They will have cleaners, yes like millions of us. Bit it does appear only one nanny, and of course they have staff for the day job. Millions of working parents, have child care or nanny’s. , what’s your point?

Pretty sure William can rustle up sandwiches for lunch and pesto pasta as a quick tea for his kids. Yes, they'll have a nanny and cleaner, but so do hundreds of thousands of families. And when they lived in the cottage at Anglesea after George was born they had NO help. Kate was a regular at the local Waitrose.

Millions might have a cleaner but not someone to manage everything else.

Point is in this day and age he can still wfh but just another excuse for him to do even less. Better to be doing virtual meetings than nothing at all. So to make out he is taking time off becuase my go's he has to be there to support the household is bs.

OhmygodDont · 07/02/2024 08:01

Thing is we don’t know that he isn’t holding royal meetings while at home there’s speculation his in contact with Charles every evening some of that will be personal and some surely work. We just know his not working with the public while his off till today that is.

And so what they have one nanny and probably a cleaner. Who do you think children want when their parent is laid up after surgery. Their other parent? Or the nanny… seriously. They may be royal but they are still human children who have a sick / recovering mum and a sick grandad and the rumour mills at school will be going crazy.

The amount of slagging the royals get for being bad uncaring unloving parents then one couple decides to be much much more there and available for their children and they are work shy and lazy.

Cant actually win can they.

upinaballoon · 07/02/2024 08:22

He might not have any more public engagements this week but he's (he has) presumably got to liaise with Charles and advisors about some of the things he has to do in C's place in the next month or two.

Thedrownedprophet · 07/02/2024 00:31

Precisely, and lots of us have lived experience of dealing with sudden illness/major surgery while holding down jobs, and raising small children with absolutely no support.

Add into the mix maybe having exhausted annual/ sick leave, having an unsympathetic employer, and worrying about losing your only source of income.

Oh, so you know what William is doing every minute of every day then? How did you get a copy of his work schedule to make such an assured statement about what he is and isn't doing? Pray tell. 🙄

Yep ! Iknow exactly where he is!!!
On my sofa having a cup of tea!!!
He thinks everyone should get a grip and move on with their lives!

He just said the same to me . Currently sitting in my kitchen eating a lorne sausage roll ( with a splash of brown sauce !)

to be fair , you don't know either.

I think many people have no idea how much goes on in the background, just because they are not always cutting ribbons and planting trees does not mean they are not working in the background. W &K are known to be very closely involved in the projects that they are involved in, their involvement in a project can open many doors and funding streams , maybe that's not right but as someone who has experience in the third sector its just true.

This policy may have to change if the King's health is poor as they will have to become more visible, however one of the consequences of a slimmed down monarchy is that there are fewer people to open things , cut ribbons etc so I don't think that W&Ks plan to focus on influencing behind the scenes to make a real difference rather than just being figureheads who swoop in and unveil a plaque was a bad one but it may be over taken by events . Monarchs have to be seen to have validity.

jeffgoldblum · 07/02/2024 09:26

@Mylovelygreendress , yep sounds about right ! William loves Lorne sausage and a touch of the brown sauce.

True, I don't, but everything you've said about what goes on in the background is true, because I've worked at charity events that Royals have attended and the amount of planning and prep that goes into them is insane. Yes, the Royals have offices and staff to sort stuff out, but they are more hands on than the public realises.

I would have invited Harry but was worried that his slice of lorne was smaller than William ‘s !

Definitely a good move @Mylovelygreendress ! You can never be too careful about these things and causing unintentional trauma!!! 😱

Does anyone know where Prince William is?
mrsmingleton · 07/02/2024 12:18

@Mylovelygreendress 😂

cyclamenqueen · 07/02/2024 12:39

He doesn't look that well either , if you look at his jawline and the cut of his uniform he has definitely lost weight as well. It must be quite lonely being Prince of Wales , the constant feeling that your future is mapped out, England expects and all that , now suddenly there is a reminder of that with his fathers health issues and having grown up without a mother himself its no wonder that he is super protective of his children whilst his wife has surgery. He is probably also conscious that George at 10 will have a dawning realisation of what this all means for his future.

Plus the more information that is out there the harder it will be to shelter the children as people at school will be talking about their mothers and grandfathers health , which is just very odd.

CoffeeCantata · 07/02/2024 12:46

William doesn't need to be performative about his relationship with his father or other relations, does he? There's been no breach as far as we know so things presumably just jog along as usual.

jeffgoldblum · 07/02/2024 12:55

Who knows @CoffeeCantata !
Maybe there's been a royal rumble behind the scenes, involving Charles , William and sink and a necklace!

Thedrownedprophet · 07/02/2024 00:18

The comments sections aren't reacting well to William making it clear he won't be around for a while.

I thought it had been said that he's back in harness from today?

He doesn't have to do it he can abdicate of course and hand over to someone who is more resilient.

Never see Anne who does the most complain or moan

Well the communication to joe publis is he is taking time away from work. Woukd of bee better to sya not doing public facing stuff but still working at home in whatever capacity he can.

But if you put out the message of taking out of work then I'm going to go by what they say and what that clearly means.

Edited

Anne has been quite open about the fact that she has the best of both . She gets to choose what she does and how much but if she didn’t do anything she wouldn’t really be criticised , although worth remembering that she was once super unpopular .

Who could William abdicate in favour of ; Edward’s 60 and not interested , Harry in California, Andrew least said the better Anne too old and wouldn’t want it, Bea and Eugenie .. too distant from throne and the Andrew issue . Anne’s children similar problem but without Andrew.

I would not be surprised if William set out to manage the end of the monarchy to save his own children, I don’t think he’s a huge fan , he sees the contradictions in the role and also the cruelty of controlling someone’s destiny and now that person is his own son.
