Does anyone know where Prince William is?

Errrrr….. where’s Willy? The press focus in the past 24 hours has been perplexing. King Charles’ diagnostic has been the top item, of course. But, bizarrely, the 2nd item has almost invariably been… Prince Harry this and that and the other. Prince HARRY??? What’s with the obsession with him? This should be about Prince WILLIAM! Yet from/about him, absolute silence. What on Earth is going on?

And please don’t start with the “he has to be at his wife’s bedside”. If Harry The Not Next In Line To The Throne And Not Counsellor of State And Can’t Stand In For The King etc etc can fly all the way from Montecito, then William The next King and He Who Should Stand In For King Charles can go visit his Dad in hospital (did he?), rush to be by his dad’s bedside (did he?), make announcements about which official duties he will take up, etc etc.

I know Prince Harry is the one the media are addicted to writing about and slagging off to drive clicks, but can they (and so many on these boards) perhaps take a break from their unhealthy obsession with H (&M) and keep the spotlight where most would expect it to be, on King Charles and, in particular, his successor Prince William?

[Title should read does anyone know...]

Maybe we don’t know where William is because he has run off with the quote button 😂

Puzzledandpissedoff · 08/02/2024 13:11

Agree about the optics, wordler, though I still believe we'd have been treated to the "hands through the fence" even if the press had to set it up Hmm

I wasn't aware of the push on Twitter however - though I should have guessed - so thanks for the extra info

Edited to add that yet another thing I don't understand is this "paid trolls" issue - as in who's paying them and how does it work?
I'm not asking because I want to do it (honest!!) but just wondered, and maybe someone here would know?

🤣🤣🤣 !
It's odd hearing about this because it's totally different on the app!
You swipe a post left and the options appear!
However there are less options and you can't quote a post that already has a quote in it!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 08/02/2024 13:15

Oh god, don't confuse me even more jeffgoldblum ... as it is I see I've just managed to quote my own post instead of editing it Blush

Sorry puzzled! , I can't edit either! 😭

jeffgoldblum · 08/02/2024 13:19

While we're on the subject! Does anybody know what the share thing is about??
Who would I share with?
Why would I share?
🤷‍♀️

ArcaneWireless · 08/02/2024 13:26

Share button is just for linking a post or a thread so that you can share it with someone by text, email etc.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 08/02/2024 13:27

I’ve long suspected they’re are possibly Russian or Chinese elements that would pay to cause destabilisation of some western countries. Maybe a conspiracy theory too far for some but I do wonder at times.

Maybe it’s for “oversharers” 😆

Roussette · 08/02/2024 13:30

@wordler. Can you honestly say that it would not have god the bad publicity it did but for Twitter and the bonkers Sussex Squad? I don't actually think that, sorry.
The LandRover pics were already doing the rounds and Rasheem Stirling over there showed what was going on, he is hugely popular so the media could see it all.

It’s a weird function - I just tested it to myself using the share button on your post - it shared the thread page the post was on but not the specific post - so created a link that went to page 13 but with no other info

Thanks arc , I'm still unsure who or why I'd want to share a mn post with! 🤣🤣 they'd think I'm crackers !

jeffgoldblum · 08/02/2024 13:32

@smilesy ! 🤣🤣 clearly not me then !!😉🤣

Roussette · 08/02/2024 13:33

This is seriously complicated, I've only just started to master 'quote' !

jeffgoldblum · 08/02/2024 13:35

Ohh @wordler , very curious 🤨! , I've never tried it because I'm Tommy no mates and I'm clearly less inquisitive than you !

jeffgoldblum · 08/02/2024 13:37

It's less complicated than the desktop version @Roussette !
Less options means less confusion for my poor little head!
However I've no idea how to use the desktop version, I only open to read pms.

ArcaneWireless · 08/02/2024 13:37

If you highlight a particular post then press share, I think you can send individual posts that way.

Roussette · 08/02/2024 13:42

That's too scary for me. Think I'll stick to what I know which isn't a lot!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 08/02/2024 12:53

Yes, I've just found it ... feel a fool now!! Grin

Thank Gawd I found you, I've just moaned about this on site stuff.

I honestly don’t think it would have been seen to be a ‘disastrous’ tour without the social media trolling. I was very interested in watching it play out in real time and tracked the way certain posts were being used and retweeted and rehashed in different publications.

It’s not the only news story royal or otherwise I’ve seen this technique work but it was the first I’d really paid attention to and followed as it was happening. It was also interesting to watch the interplay between the anonymous Twitter accounts and the ‘real’ people accounts like the mainstream media reporters and pundits like Dr Shoala and Nadine White from the Independent.

It’s the sort of technique / campaign that is going to play havoc in the upcoming US election which is what I’m currently interested in tracking.

The mainstream media needs to get on top of this although it may be too late. Publications like the tabloids are just interested in clicks for money and this is an easy way to get them - rehash a popular Twitter trending story and voila - easy article bashed out in less than 15 minutes and a boatload of clicks plus you bring all the frothing commentators to your own comments section which results in more clicks and money.

When Twitter first started it was genuinely a great way to see a new trend or buzz starting organically - now it’s being wildly manipulated by groups for different agendas.

I do agree with that.
Look at the stories lifted from MN. Lazy journalism for clicks.

On another subject, I am appalled with this headline that has come up on Twitter. There is quite rightly criticism for the likes of the Sussex Squad who are over the top and divisive. But honestly, is this OK?

Obliteration means 'total destruction'. What the hell is wrong with these people to talk like this about two adults and two children?

And no, I haven't read the article or listened to the youtube. Just seen this picture. That's enough for me to be honest.

Does anyone know where Prince William is?
ArcaneWireless · 08/02/2024 13:54

An interesting post @wordler

I watched the Undeclared War (for entirely different reasons but it showed something similar.

That is why I find it troublesome when some use Twitter or Insta as their ‘source’.

Stating opinion as fact (or worse, fabricating situations/accusations) is picked up by those not employing critical thinking and before you know it, it really happened and people react accordingly.

It is fascinating how people can be so easily manipulated.
