Does anyone know where Prince William is?

1000 replies

TallerSally · 06/02/2024 17:44

Errrrr….. where’s Willy? The press focus in the past 24 hours has been perplexing. King Charles’ diagnostic has been the top item, of course. But, bizarrely, the 2nd item has almost invariably been… Prince Harry this and that and the other. Prince HARRY??? What’s with the obsession with him? This should be about Prince WILLIAM! Yet from/about him, absolute silence. What on Earth is going on?

And please don’t start with the “he has to be at his wife’s bedside”. If Harry The Not Next In Line To The Throne And Not Counsellor of State And Can’t Stand In For The King etc etc can fly all the way from Montecito, then William The next King and He Who Should Stand In For King Charles can go visit his Dad in hospital (did he?), rush to be by his dad’s bedside (did he?), make announcements about which official duties he will take up, etc etc.

I know Prince Harry is the one the media are addicted to writing about and slagging off to drive clicks, but can they (and so many on these boards) perhaps take a break from their unhealthy obsession with H (&M) and keep the spotlight where most would expect it to be, on King Charles and, in particular, his successor Prince William?

[Title should read does anyone know...]

That’s vile @Roussette

wordler · 08/02/2024 13:58

Roussette · 08/02/2024 13:53

Publications like the tabloids are just interested in clicks for money and this is an easy way to get them - rehash a popular Twitter trending story and voila - easy article bashed out in less than 15 minutes and a boatload of clicks plus you bring all the frothing commentators to your own comments section which results in more clicks and money.

I do agree with that.
Look at the stories lifted from MN. Lazy journalism for clicks.

On another subject, I am appalled with this headline that has come up on Twitter. There is quite rightly criticism for the likes of the Sussex Squad who are over the top and divisive. But honestly, is this OK?

Obliteration means 'total destruction'. What the hell is wrong with these people to talk like this about two adults and two children?

And no, I haven't read the article or listened to the youtube. Just seen this picture. That's enough for me to be honest.

That’s terrible - I assume it’s a direct quote from him?

I think Tom Bower might be losing his marbles - he’s become in Mumsnet parlance quite unhinged when it comes to the Sussexes.

Pre his book on Meghan he was always seemed quite calm and academic when talking about the subjects of his books.

Roussette · 08/02/2024 13:59

Oh, and Piers Morgan said on Wednesday live on TV that he'd like to 'dismember' Harry

The trouble is... it encourages the neo nazis and far right extremist death threats that H&M have already been subjected to. And that two men have already been jailed for.

wordler · 08/02/2024 14:01

I wonder if Bower is just doing it for the attention and money it brings him - maybe he’s become addicted to being the go to pundit for Sussex stuff on TV broadcasts.

LittleTeawithmilk1 · 08/02/2024 14:03

That headline is very disturbing. I don’t want to click on it because damned if they’re getting any clicks from me with this.

An interesting post @wordler

I watched the Undeclared War (for entirely different reasons but it showed something similar.

That is why I find it troublesome when some use Twitter or Insta as their ‘source’.

Stating opinion as fact (or worse, fabricating situations/accusations) is picked up by those not employing critical thinking and before you know it, it really happened and people react accordingly.

It is fascinating how people can be so easily manipulated.

And TikTok is the worst for influencing people at the moment - no one seems to remember that it’s origins are heavily connected to the Chinese government.

Sorry not really royal related but something to worry about for election related news etc.

Roussette · 08/02/2024 14:06

I assume it’s a direct quote from him?

Yes....
The author of 'Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War between the Windsors' gave his opinion in this week's episode: 'I think that the monarchy in fact depends on actually obliterating the Sussexes from our state of life because their continuation is bad for us

Hmmm... he's happy enough making a lot of money from writing about how much he wants them 'obliterated'

Roussette · 08/02/2024 14:08

Yes, there's no clicking on it. It's just a screenshot.

I wonder if Bower is just doing it for the attention and money it brings him - maybe he’s become addicted to being the go to pundit for Sussex stuff on TV broadcasts

Yes I agree. I think he is a male version of LadyC. They have both made a lot of money out of hating on H&M.

smilesy · 08/02/2024 14:10

The author of 'Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War between the Windsors' gave his opinion in this week's episode: 'I think that the monarchy in fact depends on actually obliterating the Sussexes from our state of life because their continuation is bad for us

He wrote that? It’s not very good English….

ArcaneWireless · 08/02/2024 14:11

The full quote - and I absolutely do not agree with the terminology being used - is “'I think that the monarchy in fact depends on actually obliterating the Sussexes from our state of life because their continuation is bad for us.”

A sentiment which reads to me that The Sussexes should settle and step away from the Monarchy as they wished - that has been mentioned on here many times.

Only using inflammatory and questionable words, together with cherry picking the headline phrase and the required reaction is achieved.

Point proven wordler with regards to manipulation.

GrouchyKiwi · 08/02/2024 14:13

That's a highly unpleasant quote from Bower. So many of these royal correspondents are awful.

Really interesting post wordler. I do think social media has got too far ahead of society and it's incredibly easy to manipulate. Not sure how they're going to put that genie back in the bottle

GrouchyKiwi · 08/02/2024 14:15

I do think, though, Arcane that it's Bower's words that are problematic. Why use something as intense as "obliterate"? It's a very violent word. He could have made the same point in a much less inflammatory way.

Roussette · 08/02/2024 14:16

I'm sorry Arcane using the word 'obliteration' in whatever context is not acceptable.
Perhaps he did it on purpose? For clicks.
Whatever the reason, I find the word very distasteful. There is no excuse as far as I'm concerned. It doesn't mean they should settle and step away. They should be 'obliterated' from our state of life. Their 'continuation' (of life???) is bad for us. His words you've repeated.

ArcaneWireless · 08/02/2024 14:17

I absolutely agree grouchy.

Inflammatory and questionable terminology as I said. Obliteration? Just why?

But it wouldn’t have got the reaction if he hadn’t used that. The headline was paraphrased for maximum effect.

They know fine what they are doing.

Roussette · 08/02/2024 14:18

Yes, they do know what they are doing and they should be condemned for it.

friendlycat · 08/02/2024 14:45

I think PH's behaviour overall leaves a lot to be desired, but low grade journalists using the word obliterate are deeply unpleasant.

The entire media has used such inflammatory and wholly unnecessary language in relation to the RF. Especially recently. It's like some crazed cult.

I dread to think what the headlines will be in the future when Catherine is seen again for the first time and the King post treatment.

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 08/02/2024 14:46

People using inflammatory words without considering their actual meanings is becoming tediously commonplace now. Both in the media and in ‘real’ life.

So he said this in a podcast? Then he could have gone back and erased it.

Then the paper bringing it to the attraction of more people.

Deliberate

Didn’t Tom Bower say , ‘it’s Meghan I’m after’ ?

Share button is just for linking a post or a thread so that you can share it with someone by text, email etc.

Is that the clarion call button then?

Roussette · 08/02/2024 15:25

Didn’t Tom Bower say , ‘it’s Meghan I’m after’ ?

Yes he did. I think the bloke is deranged to be honest.

He's now been saying Charles isn't having cancer treatment but is going down the homeopathic route. He insists Charles has always argued against chemotheraphy.
The man is a liability.

ArcaneWireless · 08/02/2024 15:27

I think I might have used it for a recipe mrs mingleton

mrsmingleton · 08/02/2024 15:42

Did the recipe involve cheese?

Roussette · 08/02/2024 13:30

@wordler. Can you honestly say that it would not have god the bad publicity it did but for Twitter and the bonkers Sussex Squad? I don't actually think that, sorry.
The LandRover pics were already doing the rounds and Rasheem Stirling over there showed what was going on, he is hugely popular so the media could see it all.

The spin from anti-Royalist twitter accounts definitely did play a big part in the bad publicity.

Considering Raheem Sterling did the exact same thing as W&C but got very positive publicity for it.
