@Mylovelygreendress

I think you’ve covered yourself more in glory than some flower.

The wee halo polishing and chiding is a bit rich in the circumstances.

I’m curious that the accusations with regards to point scoring, ‘snipping’ and not showing decent levels of sympathy during an unpleasant situation are being levelled at you when one yelling j’accuse has been been point scoring, sniping, name calling and badmouthing the King - for the best part of yesterday, despite him being under the Doctor. I can’t recall seeing any decent levels of sympathy then.

I don’t have a big enough chinny to reckon with .

People certainly have their opinion and stance and why not?

But last time I looked, being decent didn’t mean spouting something which has no proof to it - despite their claims to the contrary. It doesn’t mean you can twist things for your agenda. And it doesn’t mean being a hypocrite.

In 2022 life expectancy for both males and females at birth fell when compared to 2021. Male life expectancy fell from 78.71 years to 78.57 years, and from 82.68 years to 82.57 years for women.

So yeah he is a very old man.

This is a diversion from the main topic of the thread but those figures in those two years are surely impacted by the pandemic?

BeaRF75 · 06/02/2024 12:47

Whilst I'm sure we all wish both the King and Princess of Wales a full recovery, posters on here seem to wilfully misunderstand the difference between the two of them. One is the Head of State, and thus his wellbeing is of concern to the PM, Archbishop, Opposition Leader etc and the whole country. The other, whilst popular and high profile, will never have that same status. So knowing that the King can still meet the PM, sign State papers etc is important for the smooth running of the country.

jeffgoldblum · 06/02/2024 12:47

Excellent post @ArcaneWireless !
Keep posting @Mylovelygreendress , your posts seem absolutely fine and not ghoulish like some others here.

stillavid · 06/02/2024 12:49

I think it is pretty obvious that whatever surgery/condition that Kate is dealing with is pretty serious.

This thread has had me shocked and almost on the floor laughing

One thing is for sure there is still a lot of interest in the royal soap opera.

Roussette · 06/02/2024 12:34

@Propertylover
I honestly think it's a bit different to your Mum, mine was the same!

Charles having cancer is a constitutional problem, within no time, news media were talking about line of succession or whatever. If you think that Harry would issue a statement about his Father having cancer and throw it out to the world, you really have bought into something a bit odd!
Brearing in mind the good wishes from Presidents and Monarchies all over the world since the news has broken, it's hardly likely he would do that. And he didn't did he? Because quite rightly, family should know first and no doubt that is what happened.

I agree family should know first but I can see timing when to tell H would have been discussed to minimise any potential leaks prior to the formal notification from the Palace.

No I think H would tell M and one of them tell OS who would tweet/x it just like he has done repeatedly. OS is getting his info from someone and it is more likely H & M or someone in their household.

How did we find out Hbwas flying to see KC?

I get Kate needing recovery time , but William stepping back too, it is not the norm for Royals to do this- or is it? The King is obviously very ill, however, Camilla still goes on and will go on with her public duties.

It isn't the norm, but I'm not sure there's been a precedent for a relatively young senior royal with a young family to have something as serious as to require two weeks in hospital.

Anyway, it's already been announced that William is to return to duties.

Hopefully that a sign that Kate's recuperation is going well.

Kate appeared to be relatively fit before the operation so maybe that will stand to her. She comes across as someone who is very likable if you go by her public persona.

Laiste · 06/02/2024 12:53

On the what do we call old front:

i recon

70+ is old
80+ is very old
90+ is really old

I wouldn't describe 75 as very old.
'No spring chicken' though, as my dad used to say.

goodbyestranger · 06/02/2024 12:59

There's no hypocrisy in voicing an opinion about Charles and the rf and then when a serious condition is announced reeling it in. That's exactly what I did. Yesterday prior to 6pm Charles had had a very minor op and was doing well. That then changed. My opinion about Charles and the rf hasn't altered one jot. I'm just not prepared to continue posting while a relatively elderly person has just been diagnosed with cancer.

Unfortunately a small number of posters swooped with seeming delight on Charles's diagnosis as an excuse to slag Harry off yet again. That is not displaying any normal level of sympathy or manners and certainly reflects woefully badly on them.

On a different point, I can't see that anything any official source says about Kate has any real meaning. The Palace makes things up - or at least distorts them - as it goes along.

themessygarden · 06/02/2024 13:00

Oh don't be silly ......

If you think that Harry would issue a statement about his Father having cancer and throw it out to the world, you really have bought into something a bit odd!

If the price was right it's not beyond the realms of possibility at all, he has proven that on multiple occasions in a few short years..

CC49 · 06/02/2024 12:43

Has it, though? I haven't seen Catherine mentioned on the news in a week or more, and none of my friends or family have brought it up as a topic of conversation. Perhaps the "chronically online" are in overdrive, but aren't they always?

To be honest I lost the grip on this thread after the Alpaca was mentioned.

ArcaneWireless · 06/02/2024 13:01

I think we all have an opinion on what reflects woefully badly on others.

jeffgoldblum · 06/02/2024 13:03

Indeed @ArcaneWireless !🙄

Janetime · 06/02/2024 13:03

I find this baying to know about Kate’s illness disturbing. She’s a person who is allowed her privacy. People are not entitled to know what she was operated on for. And if the palace says she’s recovering well. Then the overwhelming odds are that’s exactly what’s occurring. She’s allowed a private life and recoup

its just a desire for gossip , arguing she’s incapable of she should appear or William make a statement, it’s all bullshit. She’s allowed privacy end of.

Roussette · 06/02/2024 13:03

@goodbyestranger

Well said, excellent post.

I just find it bizarre that there are posters who profess to think a lot of Charles, Camilla, W&K... yet they only want to be on this thread to find something... anything... to criticise Harry about. Charles's condition appears to be irrelevant to them.
No thoughts to speak of on the family and their shock news, it's just Harry Harry Harry.
It does show to me that it's faux concern for Charles, and it's actually good to realise that.

Oh deary me.

So Harry would issue a statement to the world and the King of UK having cancer. Okey doke! Whatever you say... shakes head and steps back

JewelleryCat · 06/02/2024 13:05

Where will he be treated? Is it the same clinic he was in for his benign prostate procedure?

BestBadger · 06/02/2024 13:05

Whoops

jeffgoldblum · 06/02/2024 13:05

@MrsDanversGlidesAgain , isn't it ironic , don't ya think!
A little too ironic , don't ya think!

@MrsDanversGlidesAgain Thank God you said that, I was starting to think I was in a parallel universe.

This. The King is head of state. The Princess of Wales isn’t and is not in the line of succession so irrelevant in constitutional terms (but not as a person obviously).

Yep. There's more holes in courtiers' silence than a string vest.

Courtiers only leak what they are told to leak. Not worth their jobs to leak stuff.

Uricon2 · 06/02/2024 13:10

OK, Kate's medical issues were known about weeks before KC was diagnosed with cancer. If a day after that news breaks publicly she comes out with a statement confirming that she's OK/conscious/ William hasn't got her confined in a dungeon at Windsor, I guarantee that some would accuse her of making it "all about meeee" or shifting attention to herself for some nefarious reason to distract from KC. The RF (and I do include Fergie in that) is not in a great place at the moment healthwise and I hope they're busy shoring each other up rather than bothering too much about the "appearance" of the comms.

Anyway, I'm glad Harry's coming back to see his father and hope it is constructive for all of them.

justteanbiscuits · 06/02/2024 13:11

It's always interesting when we have people who know the Royal Family posting on a thread - giving us the details of exactly how William and Kate felt and what happened between them and Harry and Megan.
