@Thunderbird7
That's your take on it. All he has done is say he is coming over, and if he hadn't there would be absolute outrage on here and everywhere else saying why isn't he visiting, he doesn't care, he's heartless blah blah, the bloke can't do right for doing wrong

Good luck challenging it on this site, MNHQ doesn't want to know. There's a comment on a thread about retirement age possibly going up to 71 according to 'experts' and one poster reckons we'll all be dying at that age. Told her I hope not because that only gives me seventeen months 😆

To a lot of people on MN anything over 55 makes you a decrepit coffin dodger who should be in a care home.

Haha, yes even on these threads about Charles and posters writing him off as old and he's had a fulfilling life, bye Charles...my DH is similar age, I better say goodbye to him!

TheWalrusStoletheShow · 06/02/2024 09:53

The sudden, immediate visit from Harry does make it sound more serious. But then these are not ordinary folk. They have the resources and lifestyle that means it is very easy to jump on plane and travel at will.

The rest of us in this scenario would have far more to figure out. Booking last minute flights (finding the money for that), make child care arrangements, consider leave arrangements at work. This would force decisions like - do I travel right now or wait until after the treatment (as I might not financially and logistically be able to do both)

Harry will have someone to do all of that for him - it would just be a word to his PA to clear his diary and schedule a first class flight out of LAX. The rest would be organised on his behalf.

He could have leaked that e.g. he’d bring the children over in spring to see him or something. Dropping everything to visit family you don’t like definitely gives the impression time is running out. That is different to what KC has shared with the world.

Or just maybe, he wants to see his father and this has given it added impetus to meet face to face to hear first hand what ails his father and what treatment he's going to have.

Possibly but he should have taken the rush out of it and respected what KC had chosen to share.

A friend of mine is a newspaper editor in Europe. He has posted something today that makes me wonder if he knows something that we don't.

Janetime · 06/02/2024 10:00

Thing is Charles has known since last week, so I think it’s over whelmingly likely Harry also knew from last week. So it’s not an immediate dropping of everything to fly over. Simply the palace announced and it co incides with harry;s trip.

people are assuming, due to the media, that as the announcement came out yesterday, this is also when Harry found out, and thus he immediately got on a plane.

it is much more likely harry has know for a few days, and harry was planned to come over Today, and the palace decided to announce already as they were going to, and they knew there would be speculation when Harry appeared.

MaggieFS · 06/02/2024 10:01

@Thunderbird7 I've obviously missed something - what has Harry done which is disrespectful to what KC wanted to share?

TheWalrusStoletheShow · 06/02/2024 10:01

@beguilingeyes You can't just post that you now have to tell us!

There are other threads to have a go at Harry, like the book one. This one isn't the right thread, in my opinion

I agree I was just pointing out that he has in fact let it be known that he is flying. Today.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 06/02/2024 10:02

Should he? I didn't know there were rules about how you react when a parent has cancer. Perhaps PH should have come on here first and asked what he should do

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 06/02/2024 10:02

You’re really reaching with the comment about Harry wanting to be a hero by rushing to his father’s side.

He’s estranged or has little contact with his family is my guess, obviously has some contact with palace officials. What son or daughter, especially if they’re resident a good 10 hours flight away, doesn’t drop everything if they can, to visit their parent to check they’re ok and show their concern? He may have had other commitments in Montecito which he has had to cancel. And I’m sure any calm and reasonable wife, would support his going. I’m someone who was biased as not in favour of H&M before now. Harry is damned if he visits his father now and damned if he doesn’t by some people.

“Ah I feel sorry for the fella, waited all his life to have a crack at the top job and gets cancer in the first year. Hopefully they’ve caught it early. He will certainly get the very best treatment”

Yep, wish him well too as I do all of those with a diagnosis. Just a great pity that they won’t all be receiving the same standard of treatment.

Well said

MaturingCheeseball · 06/02/2024 10:03

I agree, Thunderbird7. I read the news last night when I got in and immediately underneath was that Harry was flying over immediately. So any message of positivity was lost.

Also agree with pp that it is a twisted person indeed who can’t feel sorry for Charles, who has endured an absolute shedload of stress these last few years. I know my mother, very seriously ill, was solely focused on dsis, who had wrecked our family. I’ve said a billion times (at least!) how I detest the Prodigal Son story.

I must have missed that Charles has known since last week ?
Anyway , why did “ The office of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex” feel the need to make an announcement? No other family member has made an announcement.

@Janetime How do you know KC knew last week?
That's not how these things work, even privately.

Something was found during his surgery.
They would have taken a biopsy and waited for the results.
This can take 5-6 days (even privately) so although he knew something was found, the results would not have been available for a few days.

Sorry you missed it, but yes he knew from early last week.

I’ve no idea on harry and Megan’s motives, and am a little unsure why you’re asking me or any other random on line, I don’t know them personally

everyone is assuming Harry has rushed, but as said, my feelings are Harry knew well before the public announcement. A few days is still a rush, but I really doubt he got a call just before the announcement . I think it’s an erroneous assumption being made. Harry will have known for a few days, maybe a week.

goodbyestranger · 06/02/2024 10:08

No other family member has made an announcement

a) They don't live an eleven hour plane journey away and b) Perhaps Harry needs to take the initiative given all the vile snipes he gets, so that the narrative doesn't become one of his being pressured by UK public opinion into making the trip.

LillythePinky · 06/02/2024 10:11

Sorry you missed it, but yes he knew from early last week.

You're talking without that knowledge.

Even doing these things as fast as possible, the results from biopsies take 5-6 days.

I doubt very much that KC was saying he had cancer before the results were available.

Fairly sure that if Harry had posted 'AIBU to fly straight to the UK to see my dad who has just been diagnosed with cancer, even though things have been strained between us recently' he'd have got a resounding YANBU and plenty of good wishes for his dad's recovery.

LillythePinky · 06/02/2024 10:14

@Janetime All he knew was that something else had been found.

If it was a polyp or tissue that looked 'odd' they would do a biopsy. They can't tell anything much just by looking until they've had the tissue under a microscope to grade the cells and the staging.
