If the Queen had died in the first couple of decades of her reign, before 1966, would Princess Margaret have been Regent? That's a really weird thought actually. Can't even begin to imagine it.

they passed the Regency Act in 1953 naming Philip as the regent for Charles should anything happen to the Queen while he was a minor

So Margaret was set aside for that potential role.

Hmmnnn it happens regularly on MN,just because no one else has asked ,now makes me the bad person ! Ok nothing wrong with questioning and being honest about my opinion on a poster .

Edited

calling someone a troll has always been deleted as it’s against the site rules.

No one else has asked as taking two seconds to have a look at a posters posting history pretty much makes clear when they’re not in this case

Supersimkin2 · 05/02/2024 23:32

I’m so sorry. Poor Charles gets a break
at last - nice wife, nice job - and he doesn’t make it a year before he gets seriously ill.

‘In whatever time I’ve got left….’

Mylovelygreendress · 05/02/2024 23:33

@LittleGlowingOblong wjy would the Middletons make a statement ? Apart from when W and C got engaged I can’t remember them ever doing so ?

Isthisreasonable · 05/02/2024 23:34

The predictions of the UK Nostradamus - Old Mother Shipton - have been periodically reworked as previous versions failed to come true. Fortune tellers always make very easily reworked predictions so that the gullible can be persuaded.

Right.

So far we have an Octopus, an Alpaca, and now a Pike.

All we need now is an Ark.

PML!!!!😂

Supersimkin2 · 05/02/2024 23:37

Charles is brilliant - esp for youth and the environment. He’s always been ahead of his time, and I do feel a pang he won’t be able to make the most of being right as everyone else catches up with him.

AInightingale · 05/02/2024 23:37

Thanks @YetMoreNewBeginnings, I was not aware of that and had never really thought about it before.

These people have staff. They don't actually do anything. Get rid of the lot of them. The scroungers.

How hatefilled you are!

Thanks @YetMoreNewBeginnings, I was not aware of that and had never really thought about it before.

It something I wonder what she thought of.

On the one hand she’d seen her uncle, the Duke of Gloucester, unable to leave the UK at the same time as her father until her sister was an adult. Just in case he had to take over. So she may have been relieved.

On the other hand it seems almost a slight on her. Like she wasn’t good enough or mature enough to do it even though she was just a few years younger than her sister and at the time she was the next adult in the line of succession.

I disagree people should be able to debate the monarchy any time they please . That's called a free country .

Sure you’re hardly going to get sent to the gallows. But this is a cancer diagnosis thread. Pretty poor taste.

Thehigheroffer · 05/02/2024 23:51

I get that in a democracy that people have every right to criticise the Royal Family, however some of the comments on this post are a bit nasty.

I'm afraid your taste levels don't come into it .

We don’t see anyone visiting President Macron etc.

Of course not. (He's too busy).

But the palace of Versailles has more visitors than London's Buckingham Palace I read.

Anyway, silly comparison when the king of England is dying....

caringcarer · 06/02/2024 00:12

The Royal Family have had a terrible start to 2024. Catherine having abdominal surgery, Charles with his prostate procedure, Fergie, even though no longer a working royal, with malignant melanoma and now Charles has a type of cancer too. I imagine it's bowel cancer if it was noticeable when he had prostate procedure. I wish them all a full and a speedy recovery.

oakleaffy · 06/02/2024 00:13

At least Charles won't have to wait many months on the NHS.
Only the absolute best medical treatment for the Royals.

I’m sorry to hear this and feel for his family. I know that’s such hard news to hear about a parent. I hope they are as lucky as our family was.

I was wondering about bowel or bladder cancer.

Like normal extended families / lots of people have health issues and illnesses, but don’t always share with others.
it’s sad and I wish them all good health but it’s also very normal - at least they have access to best medical resources and don’t have to worry about feeding their family etc

I know someone who got cancer a couple of months into a new job and failed his probation - he was more stressed about keeping a roof over his family’s head than the cancer killing him.

KC is of a good age and lived a great life so can be at peace whatever happens

ArcaneWireless · 06/02/2024 00:35

veggie.

I have no doubt there are heaps of hairy handies bashing out messages on their keyboards. No doubt either that there are some peculiar posters who don’t come across as quite human.

I’ve had my moments with Roussette from time to time, as I’m sure she’ll attest to. We don’t always agree.

However I’ll put money on the fact that she does not require hair remover for her mitts and is as human as I am.

Maybe more so as I am a black hearted cynical trout who is not averse to going full Deirdre from time to time.

I’d do a gif to press my point home but she doesn’t care much for them apparently… 😁

TooOldForThisNonsense · 06/02/2024 00:39

Although wonder if the type of treatment they have mentioned ie outpatient means a blood cancer is more likely. My family members and friends with bowel or bladder cancers had surgery first.

Bridgetjoneski · 06/02/2024 00:40

I'm so sorry to hear of Prince Charles diagnosis. Wishing our monarch a speedy recovery & hopefully Camilla & the extended family get plenty of support.

Dying?! That's a bit of a leap.

I think that would make a lot more of the public into republicans!

It would certainly cause some rethinks. Imagine Harry and Meghan scurrying round the palaces and castles with their mini cameras recording everyone and anything that moves. It would be an impossible scenario.

frostyfeet · 05/02/2024 19:47

I’d love it. The whole thing is an expensive soap opera anyway, and the two of them have such main character energy

I worry for you. Not really, but I would if I cared enough.
