It's a well documented fact that RF haters can't bear to admit is true

Who hates them? I don't, I don't hate anybody, literally no one.

As for tourism, it's irrelevant. France managed to bring in 67billion euros in 2023. Errrmm... without a Monarchy. If you think that our tourism revenue is solely based on catching a glimpse of the top of Charles's head, you're somewhat mistaken. Tourism would happen without a Royal Family.

No, that’s not the same calculation.

British tourism generates £X.
The portion of that that is estimated to be generated by the RF is £X.

It’s the amount they add to our tourism income. Of course our tourism income is much higher.

I think the calls of. 'a quick recovery' by major pubic and political. figures seem a little naieve if you have acknowledge of cancer. Cancer is not like a broken foot where cure is guaranteed.

I wonder to what extent even the PM is a little in the dark and so have to resort to positive statements as they are not fully briefed?

Will there maybe some less optimistic statements as things come out?

Cure isn't guaranteed for broken foot either, just very likely. When I broke my leg I was told I'd 'probably' recover. The optimism probably relates to the short term rather than long term, and it could well be fairly reliably predicted that he would soon get back to duties if he doesn't actually feel unwell and if the treatment is less invasive than some

Re the Nostradamus prediction it doesn’t name a ‘Harry’ it suggests that ‘a man who never expected to be King’ would come to the throne.

Who could just as easily have been Harry’s great-grandfather. Or Victoria’s uncle, William IV. Or some future king of Spain. Let’s face it, Nostradamus is the Rorschach ink blot of prophecy.

King George, after the abdication, surely?

🙄🙄Didnt take long for someone to blame Harry and Meghan for the kings Cancer

So? Stress is known to be a factor. The two I know of personally both died of stomach cancer within a year or so of losing an adult child through a road traffic accident.

no but kate is recuperating herself, and william was taking a back seat.
bad timing.

Yeah, apparently William is looking after the kids.

Sorry @PaperSky !

Secondly , they could turn it into a wee holiday , meet up with Beatrice and Eugenie ? Friends ? Who said Harry would only stay a couple of days

Mylovelygreendress I regularly had to fly between LAX and London with two very young DC. It's obvious you haven't. It isn't a picnic for anyone involved.

Also it isn't a holiday situation. Harry is clearly getting over to the UK as soon as he can. The reality of that is to get on with it and leave the DC at home with their mother.

Let's inject some reality into this instead of finding criticism in every last thing that Harry does.

You're not covering yourself with glory here Mylovelygreendress. This is an unpleasant situation and your posts are all about snipping at Harry and scoring points not at all about normal decent levels of sympathy for the family members involved.

I think that poster means George VI.

Roussette · 05/02/2024 21:42

It certainly isn't a holiday. Anyone who has had a close family member who tells you they have cancer, you never ever forget that moment. It's such a shock.

I don’t hate them personally but I do hate the concept of monarchy. And I really hate being brainwashed to accept them.

Abouttimeforanamechange · 05/02/2024 21:42

We must not forget they are all human and Kate probably decamps to the spare room to get some fucking sleep.

Not sure they've got a spare room. I think I read that Adelaide Cottage has four bedrooms.

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 05/02/2024 20:21

And even if he did divorce his children are in the USA. He's not going to abandon them and come back to the UK.

If he did just walk away from them that would make people even less likely to accept him back into a public role.

@Wherediditgoto Hold on. Where did you get the idea Harry might divorce? Trashy newspapers and magazines?

BBC are talking about the counsellors of State who are meant to step up if the king is unwell and it’s the 4 adults next in line , which sadly includes Harry and Andrew!

I just read that when Charles became King he added Princess Anne and his brother, Edward, to the Counsellors of State, which apparently all but assured that neither Harry nor Andrew would ever be called on to act for the RF.

Piscesmumma1978 · 05/02/2024 21:44

The Queen had bone cancer didn’t she? Maybe it’s similar? Genetics can play a big part in cancer sometimes.

WinnieTheW0rm · 05/02/2024 21:45

MaggieFS · 05/02/2024 20:25

Don't tempt fate, would only take one helicopter crash then here come King Harold and Queen Rachel.

The queen was a stickler for those in the line of succession not travelling together, and apparently unhappy when William and George did so... I wonder if that will now get reviewed?

It was reviewed last year (possibly earlier). Tabloids were chuntering on about the small but significant difference to how George would travel

SweetBirdsong · 05/02/2024 21:46

The huge amount the UK Royals bring in compared to what they cost the UK taxpayer is not 'irrelevant' at all @Roussette but you keep telling yourself that it is.

No matter WHAT facts are presented to you to support the Royal family bringing in LOADS more money than they cost, you just won't have it will you?

It's quite bizarre, and also quite funny.

You do you. But the facts are out there. No matter how much you hate them, the UK Royal family DO bring in much more than they cost.

FACT.

.

I think I remember reading a few years ago about William and his family all flying together, and the Queen was supposedly really angry with him.

BlackLabradors · 05/02/2024 19:18

BBC said if needed William, Harry, Andrew and Beatrice are the people who would step up to cover.

The BBC is wrong. Harry, Andrew and Beatrice are not working royals. That is the important thing to note. WORKING royals. Charles added Anne and Edward when he because King, in addition to the the Queen, William, and Kate, thus mostly assuring that none of those three are ever needed to take over the reins.

Propertylover · 05/02/2024 21:48

I think Harry has to get back to Canada for the winter invites games. So this will be a quick visit and reasonably not one to do with young children.

I do hope later in the year he brings the family over to see KC as any grandparent would want to see their grandchildren.

BeverForget · 05/02/2024 21:49

I bet Diana won't be on the staircase next to Captain Tom and the alpaca though...

Thats the first person that springs to mind when I think of ’a man who never expected to be King’.

Does anyone have information on what kind of cancer it might be? (Obviously they’ve said it’s not prostate.)

Wishing him a speedy recovery

The news earlier were saying its not going to be released. I think it will be released at a later date as he does alot for Cancer charities and could be very useful in raising awareness.

Firstly , Charles is not the King of England .
Secondly , they could turn it into a wee holiday , meet up with Beatrice and Eugenie ? Friends ? Who said Harry would only stay a couple of days ?

@Mylovelygreendress Exactly. There hasn't been a King of England for hundreds of years.

Give it a rest @goodbyestranger . Your repeated sniping at me is wearisome and I will no longer respond to you .
By the way , I flew to Australia with 3 young children . Not a picnic however we were in economy rather than a private jet with nannies and other staff .
i only recently ( hopefully) finished cancer treatment so i saw first hand the effect on family members while I tried to be positive and cheery so i have every sympathy with Charles , Camilla etc . Harry ? Not so much given his appalling behaviour .
