Indifference to PoW?

1000 replies

FaiIureToLunch · 28/01/2024 08:51

I find it strange that there’s no real interest or concern from the public about POW being in hospital. Nobody seems to be that bothered. If you compare it to the circus if Diana had been in the same situation….. I just find it odd. I always thought she was relatively popular because we’re constantly told she is but actually…. Tumbleweed.

I know it’s her own business etc but it just feels quite odd that somebody can disappear and there is no interest in why. I don’t really know or care what’s happened or why, but the silence is really intriguing. It reminds me of when the brexit referendum happened and I had no idea that there was such strong feeling about the EU…. I had no idea that there was such apathy about the PoW until now. It’s been a real eye opener for me.

I reckon the next generation or two, the monarchy will be gone.

Social media is much more tricksy for them to handle

Social media is 'tricksy' for anyone who thinks reporting/publicity should have a basis in fact. It is trial by gossip and innuendo, with no accountability for outright lies.

Since 2019, you say? Hmmm curious timing!

Wasn’t boasting about their knowledge of William having an affair until after the rumours started publicly then? Now, there’s a surprise….

goodbyestranger · 03/02/2024 09:20

Not surprising in the least Serenster if you stop and think for just a second. Couldn't be less surprising in fact.

I think you should give it a break now tbh. I think my position is very clear. I'm generally perfectly happy to shift positions if others produce better arguments or evidence, but you know, just not on this one. Which is possibly why my posts are very consistent :)

Anyhow, very boring now. Can I go back to suggesting you move on? Cheers.

wildernesssw · 03/02/2024 09:37

Oh the irony of taking the trouble to post in order to tell another poster to 'give it a break' and 'move on'!

MrsFinkelstein · 03/02/2024 09:44

I often come back to the maxim: "No one ever got offended by a statement that didn't apply to them".

Or to the colloquial "A hit dog will holler".

goodbyestranger · 03/02/2024 09:44

wildernesssw I suggested it initially pages back but unfortunately the group of strongly pro Kate posters are like dogs with a bone, and I've replied. So no irony.

I tend not to like the inaccurate comments made about me. If it's all the same to you I will respond to those when I come across them but tbh it would be preferable not to make them.

goodbyestranger · 03/02/2024 09:47

I think when posts specifically refer to a particular poster then that poster will tend to think they apply to them.

So while your maxims are the height of brilliant wit, they don't really fit the bill Mrs Finkelstein. But well done anyway!

goodbyestranger · 03/02/2024 10:03

What is it with all these previously banned posters? Just noticed another one has had their posts deleted.

Serenster · 03/02/2024 10:19

I’ve just noticed that I had my post showing screenshots of gooodbyestranger’s past posts have been deleted. This was posted in response to goodbyestranger’s post at 21.23 yesterday, when they said:

Serenster you claim that Anyway, in past posts, goodbyestranger is adamant that Kate clearly and very visibly can’t stand being around William

I mean, just where are these past posts?

I was specifically asked by the poster to show them their past posts. I did…and it was then reported and deleted! You couldn’t make it up here sometimes. 🤣

CathyorClaire · 03/02/2024 10:33

Your comment makes zero sense.

Well thank goodness you're here to point it out 🙄

Josette77 · 03/02/2024 21:43

I don't know if he's cheated but I'm unimpressed with the idea that because his Dad did, he will too.

My dad had a double life. I seem capable of loyalty.

Either way I think Kate was a needed breath of fresh air and has done beautifully.

She preforms her job respectfully, with kindness, and grace.

She's a huge asset to the family.

Gottseidank · 03/02/2024 22:30

I totally agree. Kate is immensely popular. She always conducts herself with dignity, and her good nature and kindness shine through.

The public reception when she reappears after her recovery will no doubt be enthusiastic.

Yes this is what I mean. The usual royalists are nowhere to be seen

Because there's more to the story than meets the eye

Roussette · 04/02/2024 06:18

I wish the media would stop creating divisions

A member of the RF has sadly been very poorly and in hospital which makes another non working RF couple unpopular. Really? I am sure Kate would've wished she hadn't been ill to gain points in a poll and calling people 'Kate Haters' really doesn't help those divisions either.

Maybe people have seen some of the recent unhinged speculation about Kate on social media etc & it made them more sympathetic towards her. I know some of the nasty comments about her on Mumsnet have had that affect on me.

Ratsoffasinkingsauage · 04/02/2024 08:29

@Gottseidank

I would agree with this. Some of the paid troll account has really been going overboard to suggest all sorts of disgusting stuff is behind this hospitalisation. Foul, foul, inhuman.

I do wish some people would realise that saying disgusting things about people only makes the wider world see them as the bad one and have sympathy with their victim.

ArcaneWireless · 04/02/2024 12:49

The media/press may not help matters - although people can and do manage to base their opinions without their influence. I don’t think polls can ever be entirely accurate.

As for divisions? The emotive language on here is designed to divide, with terminology such as fan girls, outrage, shrieking, frenzy, fury, pile ons, pearl clutching etc., etc.

Not to mention the pointed little digs or flat out insults at posters who have differing opinions or posting styles, those who persist with their allusions/speculation and those who insist any criticism is because of x, y or z reasons rather than because some merely dislike a particular action.

Faux naïveté style posts always seem to have the desired effect too.

The press don’t need much help in creating divisions at all. Not if some posts on here are anything to go by.

ratsoff. Foul and inhuman is about right.

jeffgoldblum · 04/02/2024 12:56

Excellent post @ArcaneWireless ! 👏

Maireas · 04/02/2024 13:03

Absolutely, @ArcaneWireless . Ridiculous hyperbole used - your quoted words are no exaggeration. The terms have been used frequently.

Roussette · 04/02/2024 13:08

The press don’t need much help in creating divisions at all.

Really?

You think, without the dreadful media pile ons, that MNers would still think the same? I find that odd given that on the RF board, it is endless threads started about what a poster has read and seen in the media. Particularly with regard to Meghan...nearly always.

However, I am glad you agree that 'Kate haters' as a term is not on. Nor are any of the other divisive labels like 'fan girls'. It's pathetic. A poster is allowed an opinion without being labelled.

If I listed all I have been called ... it's a joke

jeffgoldblum · 04/02/2024 13:10

Many of us have been called awful uncalled for names !
It's not a competition.

I never said it was?? Hmm

goodbyestranger · 04/02/2024 13:24

I’m definitely guilty of typing fangirling - had no idea it was anything other than language to signify a cringy level of sycophancy. In what way is it more offensive than sycophancy? I also use the term fanboy if that helps….

Genuinely confused.
