At one point they had a 'Chief of Staff' 😂

And the ‘office’ is the local Starbucks…

Or that room with the Hermes blanket draped artfully over a chair and Harry playing court jester through the window.

Who bets that the 'Global Press Secretary for the Private Office of the Duke and Duchess' is actually Meghan?

NewKingontheBlock · 07/02/2024 11:51

I wonder if Harry was frisked before seeing Charles and if there were witnesses present so that no conversation could be ‘misconstrued’ and then relayed to Scobie and People magazine. It must be awful for Charles to know you can’t trust your own son not to sell any conversation you have, it must really hurt. There is no future for Harry really on any level ever again the trust is completely broken.

I think the announcement from the office of the Duke and Duchess, was another misstep. He could have quietly arrived, saw his dad and announced afterwards that he had visited his father, it would have appeared more genuine, plus no one would have realised how brief the visit was.

I think it was possibly a PR knee-jerk reaction in advance of the start of the Invictus promotion.

Why announce it at all ?

mrsmingleton · 07/02/2024 12:07

The next movie soon "Meghan" coming to a car park near you.

Abouttimeforanamechange · 07/02/2024 12:21

Why announce it at all ?

Indeed. Every other close family member has probably visited or spoken to the King in the last few days. Not one of them has felt it necessary to make an announcement about it.

mrsmingleton · 07/02/2024 12:26

It's all part of the keeping relevant and being seen and reminding people of the connection so that he can get more gigs.

I agree - there's no hope with many family members - only perhaps with Charles on a very personal level. And even then, I think he'll have to have split from Meghan before Charles is prepared to trust him.

ArcaneWireless · 07/02/2024 13:46

I don't really think M would be a deciding factor. Only H betrayed the trust of his family.

Let’s not kid on - between them and that tedious little mouthpiece - there have been snide things said to the world.

In my experience, you can get over that. Not easy but it can be done.

Trust is not so easily recaptured. And after what has happened, you’d be wary of being as open as you once were.

One perceived slight and a rash moment and you could find yourself in the same position.

Here’s hoping that no little snippets from this latest visit come out.

Mylovelygreendress · 07/02/2024 14:32

And he’s away !

Various reports Harry is flying back to the US...

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 07/02/2024 14:55

Thanks @wildernesssw . I mean, what do you say to that? Foolish man.

Well that was worth allocating a security detail for 🙄😂

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 07/02/2024 15:11

Is there nothing else he could have done in the UK to justify the carbon footprint and, yes, cost to the UK security services? Maybe he could have dropped in to Well Child’s offices, sure they would have been delighted with an impromptu visit. Although I suppose security wouldn’t have been available for that sort of unofficial activity. Anyone else think that he’s shrunk his world rather than expanded it?

It tells you something that a 75 year old parent receives a cancer diagnosis which was caught early and that he feels positive about (and would be receiving the best possible treatment for), and one son carries on with his work while his own wife convalesces, and the other thinks nothing of dropping everything, spending easily 25k (assuming last-minute first class tickets on a commercial airline for two people, plus accommodation) on a 10,000mile round trip and damaging headlines for a 30 minute in-person visit while his parent was leaving the building.

One child's actions very much look like those of someone lacking confidence/stability in his relationship. As though by his actions he can make a point he thinks all that upheaval is worth making.

themessygarden · 07/02/2024 15:45

Well that was a short trip, Harry looks an idiot (again).

Ratsoffasinkingsauage · 07/02/2024 15:54

What a fantastic waste of time and jet fuel. And a terribly calculated PR move too- he now looks desperate to be let back in.

I do feel a bit sorry for him. I think he’s had quite a few people feeding his hurt sense of entitlement. But it was ultimately his decision to betray his family in such a public manner. Once the trust is gone, it never comes back.

friendlycat · 07/02/2024 16:03

Whilst it's obviously his decision to make on flying over here, he's now seen his father and returned.

Sadly he is further witnessing the results of him betraying his own family (father, brother and their respective wives.) Under wholly different circumstances he may have received a much warmer welcome. I actually wonder what is going through his mind many months after his actions? What a sad mess for him.

He may be gloriously happy in America and it all of have been worth it, but it's hard to see how.

Lifestooshort71 · 07/02/2024 16:13

I think it would have been better if Harry had arranged to see his Dad (at Sandringham or wherever) at a time convenient to them both, Camilla could have made herself scarce and the two of them could have bonded/had a row/played snakes and ladders at their leisure. Charles is wily enough to have been guarded with his son while welcoming the beginning of a rapprochement. Instead it sounds as though it was a well-meant gesture from Harry that didn't quite hit the spot. Oh dear.

mrsmingleton · 07/02/2024 16:15

Now you see him, now you don't.

It comes across as if he is still sucking up to Charles to say "Yes ME I am still Here!!! " while holding the rest of the RF to blame for his situation. It shows how far down the tunnel he has fallen. Meanwhile the rest of the RF have carried on with business as usual. Poor little Harry !

pipsfromthefuture · 07/02/2024 16:28

Harry gave him the same amount of time as the coronation. Good for him - in and out to see him in person if that's what theey wanted

Flying 11,000 miles , costing taxpayers God knows how much for his cavalcade of protection officers for what ? For a supposed environmentalist that’s a giant sized carbon footprint.
Why come over when his father had made it clear he is doing well ? Why announce he is coming ? Why let it be known he would be happy to meet with William ?
Harry supporters are saying he is entitled to see his Dad . Well , clearly they haven’t gone through chemotherapy/ radiotherapy which I have and - trust me- the one living with cancer calls the shots re visitors . The fact that KC met his son for less than an hour indicates he simply wasn’t up to a lengthy meeting . Especially one where the discussions could be leaked .
