Harry is a spoiled child in a room full of grown-ups.

Why the sudden need to rush to your father's bedside from the pacific ocean when the prognosis is good, the patient is wholly positive, the cancer was caught early, and the patient is in and out of hospital for treatment (and therefore not wanting to be put at unnecessary risk of infection from someone who's just spent 11 hours on a plane and passed through two enormous airports)? That's an emotional, knee-jerk reaction. (I say this as someone with emotional continence and who therefore waited until the best time to visit her own aged mother after life-saving surgery, from 4000 miles away - the best time being the best time FOR MY MUM).

Why the need to publicise the fact that you're visiting?

Why the need to do both of these things when you're so deathly scared for your life and those of your wife and children that you're suing the government of the country you're scared to be in for taxpayer-funded security and/or access to privileged security intelligence? Surely you'd want to consider carefully whether you need to visit, and at the very least keep any visit hush hush?

Why do any of these things in a family and societal context apparently so hostile that your and your wife's mental health was so dramatically negatively impacted that you feared for her life and that of your unborn child?

He needs to pick a lane.

And, what I'd most like to know is why, after such an apparently brutal battering in the UK that a special Oprah interview was warranted, in which he and his wife jointly complained about his family, they're not doing another even l onger Oprah interview after the even more brutal battering they've received in Hollywood (listed as the most disliked and derided celebrities of 2023, South Park episode, fucking grifters, netflix embarrassment, dropped by Spotify, The Cut interview etc). I don't recall them receiving anything like the negativity they've had in the US during their joint 5 minutes in the UK. Where's the Oprah interview complaining about how mean Americans are being to them?

Because I think Charles is a loving father, he likely said “join us if you like, for a night or 2 at Sandringham. Plenty of room.”. Whether the “villain” Camilla was screaming into a pillow while he said that is likely to remain a secret. Unless Harry carries on with his book contract and has a dictaphone running.

TBF, no matter how loving you are, after Spare, you would never be alone in the room with Harry again. Or say anything other than “Darling boy…” and trivia about the weather. Because Scobie will tweet it within 24 hours.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 06/02/2024 16:15

I mean, the risk of sensational headlines is there: Harry only gets 20 mins with his father before the men in grey sweep him off. Harry not welcome in Sandringham. Camilla gate keeps King from own son. Poor Harry left behind, RF are cold and unfeeling after he risks life to visit UK and leaves wife and kids for royal mercy dash!

Who gets to be victim? Who else?

I would have though even a small talk conversation would have taken longer - but I expect PP are right he had to be fitted in around existing plans and perhaps someone just off a long haul flight isn't best person to be around just before starting cancer treatment.

Mylovelygreendress · 06/02/2024 16:20

I am wondering if Harry simply announced he was coming over rather than negotiate whether or not it was convenient.

Perhaps, though do we know whether or not Harry's gone to Sandringham with Charles and Camilla?

If not then it does seem a long way to come for half an hour's chat, but if he's with them that puts a different complexion on things

MaturingCheeseball · 06/02/2024 16:51

Every cancer patient receiving chemotherapy needs to beware of germs. As a pp said, Harry’s been on an 11-hour flight! Perhaps it was a “distanced” brief meeting and when if after a few days Harry is all clear of the sniffles or worse he can spend more time with his father.

mrsmingleton · 06/02/2024 16:52

Why is Omid Scobie announcing this? If someone else was announcing about your life surely you would tell them to stop? In that case then it seems he is indeed their spokesperson.

StormzyinaTCup · 06/02/2024 16:55

Blimey, the Bob Marley film was longer than that meeting!!

  1. did he just turn up?
  2. maybe he was frisked at the front door and sent on his way😉?

He must be going on to Sandringham surely?

Well quite, I said in an earlier post that I don’t see why he can’t be accommodated at Sandringham if his father feels up to it. Hopefully he will be, otherwise he’d have been better off having a lovely long catch up at another time or online instead.

Oh that’s a good point. Maybe he will join them later.

Why is Omid Scobie announcing this?

Because he always bloody does - even though, as mentioned, he said he'd be giving up "royal reporting" Hmm

The news have just confirmed that Harry only spent 45 mins with his father. The phrase ‘lip service ‘ comes to mind.

https://www.express.co.uk/news/royal/1863735/prince-harry-arrives-uk-visit-king-charles

Prince Harry has left Clarence House just 30 minutes after arriving at the London property to visit his father King Charles.

Sounds like he was seen leaving and they aren't together - but doesn't mean he won't travel down later in the week to see the King again.

Prince Harry leaves Clarence House just 30 minutes after arriving to visit King

Prince Harry touched down in the UK earlier this afternoon and was quickly whisked away to visit his father King Charles.

Maybe Harry panicked and thought Holy crap KC is going to die and I'm in this exiled situation...I'd better high tail it home to iron it all out. Who knows.

Good thread, back into the shadows…

Maerchentante · 06/02/2024 17:52

My thinking and pure speculation.

Harry hadn't really planned to come when he got the news, but once it became public knowledge thought it might be better from a publicity point of view to go and visit his father, so he could be portraied as the caring son.
Not much notice given, hence the short visit and a possibility to play the victim (again) later on.

But as I said, pure speculation

Ratsoffasinkingsauage · 06/02/2024 17:55

I think they are wise not to trust him. He betrayed them all in the most public way possible. If it was me I’d never speak to him again without a lot of witnesses and legal representation.

pipsfromthefuture · 06/02/2024 18:03

LittleTeawithmilk1 · 06/02/2024 08:02

I don’t think we have to worry about Harry making it all about himself.

Hardly more than 12 hours since Charles’ illness announced and media and posters are making it all about Harry. Job done.

Edited

so true but that's because stories mentioning Harry, Meghan or their children are the ones that get the most engagement. That's why they're pigeon-holed into every article.

But if I were Harry, I wouldn't have made the trip over
