@Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar great post at 11.24 ( catching up !)

Apparently, Harry’s car has been seen leaving Heathrow accompanied by two police cars. So it would seem that he is being provided with security as it has been deemed necessary. Which is what was said would happen So I’m not sure why there is still the insistence that he needs to be provided with security when this is clearly what happens anyway 🤔

I was interested to see a photo of Beatrice and Edo leaving Clarence House this morning. Wonder if she might have been asked to step up while the King is receiving treatment?

I have no evidence for this but my impression is that since her marriage Beatrice has found her place in the world and RF.

Edo, comes from the aristocracy and is wealthy. This means he gets the protocol etc. but also means he can fund their lifestyle.

It removes the pressure on Beatrice from the media about earning a living etc. Her low key Covid wedding was a really good start.

I can see her quietly taking on some royal engagements as a pragmatic solution.

The timing of Harry’s trip to London is interesting.

The Times reported that the family members were told by Charles of his diagnosis last week, after it was discovered. But Harry only announces he’s coming tot he UK after it is announced publicly. I guess there a few possibilities to consider here.

Firstly, Harry wanted maximum publicity for the trip, so although he could have travelled privately last week, he waited until the Palace made its announcement before releasing his own statement, and ensuring the US paps knew when he’d be arriving at LAX etc.

Secondly, he unfortunately wasn’t able to travel last week before his father’s announcement, when it could have been done privately.

Thirdly, he thought that a trip by him to the UK would be picked up on by the Press and speculated on, so better to travel openly (although he normally manages to travel fairly regularly without coverage - see the Sussexes recent holidays and the trip to Jamaica).

Fourthly, the Palace didn’t trust Harry to keep his father’s condition secret so didn’t tell him until after the rest of the family (as when QEII died), so he travelled as soon as he had the opportunity to.

Lots of possible options! Who knows which is closest to the truth.

I would love Bea and Edo to be working royals, I always have, they would give the injection of youth and glamour the royal family need. Bea has always come across as a lovely person and has really upped her game on the fashion front, Edo is a good looking European aristocrat, it’s beyond me why Charles doesn’t see the value in these two and I don’t think Andrew being her father is a good enough excuse, his behaviour is not her fault but it seems as if she has to carry that burden.

Mylovelygreendress · 06/02/2024 13:59

@Serenster option 1 probably although he might have been arguing about whether or not Meghan should go too !

I think that's the press just desperate to put something in the paper.

I agree.

I think Charles was heavily influenced by the press about the size of the civil list way back when and formed quite fixed views on slimming down the monarchy.

But he would have done better to keep his options open - he didn't forsee that Harry and family wouldn't be working royals and he likely assumed that William and Kate would be less workshy

I'm on the fence between 1 and 4 of Serensters' post.

I'm laughing at a poster directing those who are commenting logically/negatively about Harry on the Charles thread, to the Endgame thread.😂😂

themessygarden · 06/02/2024 15:03

but it’s the stories about Harry, and the posts on here about Harry, that is making this about Harry.

as per that well used phrase 'and here you are'.

i’m veering towards Serenester’s no. 4. Harry might be a loving son, but he has also shown himself to be untrustworthy. Even if he just told Meghan last week, Omid Scobie would have been trumpeting the breaking news.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 06/02/2024 15:11

@Serenster toss up between 1 and 4 for me.

Having had a much less grand version of this scenario in my own family I’m going to project massively and say how much I loathe people who having been flouncing for years about how mean everyone is to them, get in on any drama, and make it all about them.

Harry could have visited Charles (and the late Queen) just out of affection and love, any time in the last few years. But he didn’t. He CBA to visit QE2 at Balmoral even when he was in Europe, he (allegedly) wanted to go to Sandringham at Christmas (photo op! I’m royal people! Look at me royalling. Get ready for my next tell all book!) but he could have gone any time after. He doesn’t have an office job, he could zip across privately for a weekend to see his dad. Who lost his mother recently. Who do we know who wangs on and on and on about their dead mother - admittedly largely when paid to). Clue: it’s not Prince William

Now he’s all over it! “Sources close to” Harry let us all know he’s coming. He makes a phone call and we all know about it. This man has quite the team of leakers. What car he’s in to LAX FGS. No wonder he thinks he needs security.

ArcaneWireless · 06/02/2024 15:13

milkshake and messy

I didn’t care for that either.

Generalisations and sweeping accusations don’t do it for me much.

Mylovelygreendress · 06/02/2024 15:32

Apparently Charles is heading off to Sandringham imminently so either Harry is going too or he has come a long way for a brief meeting .

DuchessOfPort · 06/02/2024 15:42

I have visions of Harry wailing about how it’s all so hard for him, while everyone else; Camilla, William, Anne, Edward all grind their teeth and think of the lead up to this point and how they’ve listened to various potential prognoses and what to do and planned and done all the boring family listening ideas and thinking admin in non dramatic but essential support, for one ninny with his hand draped across his brow saying how upset he is.

PROJECTING!

RhubarbGingerJam · 06/02/2024 15:46

Apparently Charles is heading off to Sandringham imminently so either Harry is going too or he has come a long way for a brief meeting .

Daily Mail Diary editor Richard Eden tweeted today: 'After his 5,000-mile flight from Los Angeles, #PrinceHarry is understood to have had a brief meeting with #KingCharles before His Majesty departed for his Norfolk retreat, Sandringham. It will be interesting to see how long Harry stays in this country.'

Not seen it elsewhere - bloody odd though after an 11 hour flight and not seeing a family member for a while I'd be wanting more than a quick meeting - maybe it's just spin and poor reporting.

Prince Harry arrives at Clarence House to visit King Charles

Prince Harry has been seen arriving at Clarence House where his father Charles is recuperating from cancer treatment.

Yes, I gave a listening ear to a friend the other day who is her mother's carer (early stages of dementia) as well as working P/T - her brother swans in occasionally to do something to help, and for days their mother goes on about how wonderful the brother is... meanwhile never notices how much my friend does for her, day in day out!

So yes, it happens all too often, the people providing the real support don't get noticed.

Or, as a colleague said the other day, the empty pot makes the loudest noise!

I am sure Charles' trip to Sandringham was long-planned, and not because he didn't want to have to see Harry for too long 🤔😂

RhubarbGingerJam · 06/02/2024 15:58

Now BBC say Queen and Kind departed - so not a long meeting.

Honestly it's a different world after a few hours train journey it's expected to be cup of coffee/tea and a long natter in my family.

Abouttimeforanamechange · 06/02/2024 16:03

I am sure Charles' trip to Sandringham was long-planned....

Today is the anniversary of the late King's death. He died at Sandringham, and the Queen always liked to spend the day quietly there. Charles is perhaps continuing the tradition - he was there at Sandringham when the King died.

ETA: and wouldn't someone have said to Harry, 'actually, we're off back to Sandringham tomorrow', when he proposed coming?

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 06/02/2024 16:06

There every chance Harry did not clear the visit long in advance, and that he’s had to be accommodated as best they could around the existing schedule. I am not sure why he couldn’t also go for a longer visit to Sandringham if the King has the energy for his visitor. Bit awkward though.
