@IcedPurple I am not saying Meghan’s acting chops (poor) or production acumen (seemingly non existent) have brought in viewers to Suits. In my opinion, it is her notoriety that has. But what luck for the other cast members that it happened, and in my opinion they should have a little humility that it is not their acting, the writing or the production that has made Suits popular enough to merit them being catapulted to the Golden Globes carpet and lots of buzz created about a reboot, and maybe think about that before speaking. They also appeared in the Super Bowl commercial. I doubt that’s happening for nothing more than a Netflix revival.

GT was asked who texted Meghan to ask her to come to the Golden Globes. We don’t have her number as an answer is snarky in my opinion. I’m sure someone has been in touch, I wish she could have joined us, a shame she was busy - any number of more gracious answers. In my opinion.

@Serenster I am sure Gina Torres has had parts in loads of things, just like any TV actor who has been around for many years. That doesn’t make her anything other than a well regarded but still jobbing TV actor, rather than a sought after lead/star/household name - in my opinion. I said she had done nothing of note since Suits, so her previous jobs are not relevant to my remark. In my opinion, her post Suits projects don’t elevate her to anything more than what she was doing on Suits.

I am neutral on Meghan and went in with 0 expectations, and was still surprised by how bad it was

I’m easy pleased Jeff. 😊

I’m as giddy as a pickle as Law and Order is back.

I’ve watched many over the years. I’m looking forward to Your Honour being on normal tv. Fingers crossed.

He captivates me. Watching him in Human Is sealed the deal.

My Scottish mum in law , absolutely loves law and order!! 🤣 she fancies the pants off the main man ( mark Harmon??) can't recall his name !
Might be wrong i only see things when she visits!

Gina Torres has done nothing of note since Suits, and her spin off bombed. IMO, she is being given a second bite of the cherry on a much bigger stage, and one she would not be occupying but for her famous colleague who she was happy to call a friend. I don’t doubt she can’t stand MM, but a little more grace and tact about the phone number would have been classier.

Talk about dismissing a well-regarded actress. Gina Torres is an actress who has been working constantly in and films for 20 years. She’s been involved in some 10 projects since Suits finished in 2018, including currently appearing in a series called 911 Lonestar. I’ve known who she was since seeing her in Angel and then Firefly/Serenity many years ago.

Yep ! She was great in buffy !
And excellent in firefly and serenity ( which led me down a crush on Nathan fillian spiral!)

ArcaneWireless · 01/02/2024 08:21

Mark Harmon is NCIS.

Your mam-in-law has taste. 😁

Sorry, but I just don't see what was so awful about what she said. It seemed quite diplomatic to me. We don't know what has gone on between them. It's possible that they wanted her to join them but she made diva demands or thought she was too good to be part of an ensemble appearance. This is just a guess, in case someone comes demanding 'evidence'.

But what luck for the other cast members that it happened, and in my opinion they should have a little humility that it is not their acting, the writing or the production that has made Suits popular enough to merit them being catapulted to the Golden Globes carpet and lots of buzz created about a reboot, and maybe think about that before speaking.

Again, I think you massively overrate Meghan's importance. As I said above, she hasn't made a success of anything not royal related since finding freedom. Meghan doesn't seem to be involved in any potential reboot, so not sure how she could be contributing to the 'buzz'.

And while I agree, as said above, that her name may have created free publicity for the series, that's not why people watched it. There was the lack of new content, as we mentioned, and also I read a discussion recently about how young people are increasingly turning to older, long running series, and have grown tired of the Netflix model of cancelling shows after one or two series. Suits will have benefitted from this, with or without Meghan.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 01/02/2024 08:45

I’ve said repeatedly that it is my opinion, @IcedPurple . You don’t share my opinion and that is absolutely fine by me. I really have nothing more to say about it.

Ooooh, Mark Harmon 😍

Slumberlands · 01/02/2024 09:29

I thought Suits was just unwatchable . Couldn't get tot the end of the first episode.

ArcaneWireless · 01/02/2024 09:52

I like a long running series.

I like a historical drama - preferably historically accurate but fluff is acceptable.

Happily watched Becoming Elizabeth.

Sat through 8 hours. LJG hadn’t even got her harris on the throne so plenty of material to go. Then cancelled. 😡

jeffgoldblum · 01/02/2024 09:57

That suck arc ! But predictable, every time I get into something they cancel it !
I like all sorts but really loved a series called ' dead like me'
Cancelled just before the conclusion to a story line mid way through series 3 !!!
What was the ending? What happened?
I'm still salty years later!

I am pivoting this thread, before I launch into my thesis that X Files and Buffy were incel wet dreams that helped to culturally destroy the strides made by the 1980s depiction of women on our screens, and helped create an expectation on girls to become all powerful, self sacrificing handmaidens for inadequate, needy men. You don’t need to hear that rant.

So, pivot back to Endgame and Scobie. I see the BBC have released 3000 emails relating to the Bashir/Diana interview, after journalist, Andy Webb had to take them to court under the Freedom of Information Act. Prince William asked that this interview never be used again, after it was revealed that Bashir persuaded Diana to give him the interview using forged documents to feed Diana’s paranoia about being spied on and plotted against.

Scobie criticised William in Endgame accusing him of silencing his mother; and conversely praised Harry for using parts of the interview in the Netflix doc and saying he gave her a voice. Given that at the time of Netflix doc it was known what Bashir had done, and the possible consequences of her giving up her royal protection as a result of his lies, I question Harry’s thought process and cognitive dissonance. This BBC journalist Bashir acted no better than one of the tabloid hacks he professes to hate. Predictably enough, when he was first called out on this in 2020, he claimed racism and jealousy was at play against him.

Interesting interview below.

In other FOI news, this time across the pond, The Heritage Foundation trundles on trying to see Harry’s visa application and whether he lied about all the mushrooms and what not. Oral submissions in court on 23 February. I assume Harry getting the IPP status he seeks would stop this sort of enquiry.

And in further court news, Harry wants £2m from MGN or the Judge gets it. That’s poor Judge Fancourt, having to wade through more phone hacking claims, as if the poor man hasn’t suffered enough. Feeling sorry for Michael Le Vell, who won, but not enough to beat the pre trial settlement offer, so will be landed with MGN’s costs, and Nicki Sanderson, who turned down a sizeable settlement but then lost on limitation, and is now facing a big claim from MGN for their costs.

I loved it too, and Buffy (the musical episode - sublime), and I still love hate them, but think the 1990s were bad for women for a plethora of reasons, including their popular culture depiction and the evolution of feminism through it.

You’d probably hate my, “House Was The Most Racist Show On TV” thesis as well 😂

After reading that ( I know this will trigger a pile on but this is my opinion!)
It seems rather than fighting the good fight, this is all about money for Harry!
I hope he knows or someone will advise him that court is not a good way to make money.

William has all but been written out of his mother’s narrative by Harry and his tribe. In Harry’s eyes, Diana seems to be all his, he hurt more than anyone on her death (William’s grief as a young lad also goes ignored), he claims to know exactly what Diana would think about things as they stand now (she would love Meghan as a kindred spirit, the implication that she would hate Catherine as she is depicted by Harry and Scobie as the opposite). It must be so hurtful for William, who unfairly bore a lot of the burden of his mother’s unhappiness on his shoulders as she confided in him.

( I have my own cantankerous rants myself!)

Very well put. It's for these reasons that William will have very little to do with Harry for the forseeable future imo.
