Meghan, Duchess of Sussex spotted out and about, part 3

Part 3 of a nice, unproblematic thread to discuss some of the fab outfits from the Duchess of Sussex, and some of the many great causes she (and Harry) and Archewell supports. h/t @queentim for the original threads.

I really liked this outfit and the way the skirt flowed as she walked - really good choice and quite pared back compared to some other people on the red carpet.

I'm sorry I didn't understand what you said there?

Typo. There are plenty of countries who are already looking into legalising it for personal use as well as for medicinal reasons

Coronateachingagain · 25/02/2024 18:03

"Well they both like a bit of weed?"

😅certainly that would be one of the things in common but not sure that is good to movie promotion 😀 and a bit of other stronger stuff too they seem to have liked.

I don't think the Jamaica thing was too bad - a bit dickish but hey ....now Canada and the First Nations is another kettle of fish. They are trying to pretend to be still part of the family they detest. Anyone with any sense will see them for what they are. The more they do that is inappropriate the bigger dicks they look - hangers on.

I agree. Just wait for the next instalment of the Privacy Tour II. This looks like carefully planned. Next location probably will be closer to home. Either Aussie (aboriginals there or something) or somewhere in Europe.

Europe is lovely in springtime so that would be my bet Grin

Yes including mine and it’s going to absolute shit. It’s being done with zero scientific backing that all will be well.

Keep in mind our Federal Government still considers it illegal and if you have a “medicinal” marijuana card you can’t legally do a number of things like practice medicine or be a nurse or own a gun. And for good reason.

AliceOlive · 25/02/2024 18:08

The marijuana legalization is all about money. Nothing more. And like all drugs in the US, it hits the black communities the hardest.

Ok but all I said was Harry and Meghan like a bit of weed.

pipsfromthefuture · 25/02/2024 18:43

"And like all drugs in the US, it hits the black communities the hardest."

Black communities aren't hit the hardest because they are more likely to be higher users (they are not). But because of higher policing and sentencing practices (racism).

This statement requires a very good understanding of drug policy and racism in the US. Legalization and/or decriminalization (better imo) would actually benefit "black communities" in specific measures.

There's definitely evidence out there about the impact of decriminalization and/or legalization of marijuana/other drugs outside of discussions around morality of use. But this is all definitely a conversation for another thread.

I cannot imagine Charles saying or thinking "I am absolutely FURIOUS at Harry and Meghan going to a film premiere, how dare they" unless of course he's more petty than I realised.
Please tell me he has more important things to think about?

With the things he has to do, one would hope he has! 😂

I mean I would highly doubt anyone would care, let alone Charles, or else very soon no royal would never be able to travel anywhere without it being a problem.

I also highly doubt Charles was a factor in H&M doing a bit of travel with friends.

Archewell has shared recognizing Black History Month in the US and Canada. Some great links and related resources across the country

The Smithsonian African American History Museum in DC has been on my bucket list since it opened. I've heard great things about it.

"During a recent team visit to the Skirball Cultural Center to the powerful exhibit ‘This Light of Ours: Activist Photographers of the Civil Rights Movement,’ we were reminded once again of the enduring spirit of those who fought tirelessly for justice and equality, and of the profound impact that individuals can have in shaping a more equitable and inclusive future."

AWF Celebrates Black History Month

The Museum of African-American History in DC is amazing! It was opened by Barack Obama in 2016 or so - the location in DC, the. architecture, the design and of course the contents are striking. I can’t believe it was the first of its kind in the US. The UK needs a high profile equivalent.

Good on Harry and Meghan for referencing it. When we visited it was really high profile and didn’t need any referencing per se - it was packed, with school trips and loads of tourists. That was pre-Covid though, no idea what’s happened since.

Exactly, it’s causing all kinds of issues even where it is legalised. It’s incredibly potent and can lead to all kinds of issues, not to mention being a potential gateway drug and how buying it in areas where it is illegal is basically funding organised crime:

And lots of studies now show relaxing laws around drug use and legalising sex work, doesn’t decrease criminal activity, just gives it’s a respectable veneer to hide behind; the human trafficking continuing in the background. It also encourages widespread use by reducing the stigma. Which actually isn’t a good thing, for obvious reasons.

Except from your post seems to be arguing against it.

However, if you claim that is what you meant, and are agreeing with my posts, then good.

Yes the architecture looked stunning. I will definitely have to visit while I'm in the area.

I remember during the height of COVID, lots of museums were doing virtual tours which was great.

Peak COVID and lockdown era seems like it was another lifetime ago doesn't it

I’m so chronically online I remember the build up to the museum and its opening 🤣. Definitely a visit for me when I revise the Eastern Seaboard.

It would be really interesting to see them flourish in areas that they’re passionate about rather than dabbling in a bit of everything. Just because I don’t like them doesn’t mean I can’t be fair - and I still think there’s the potential for both of them to be real forces for good.

Fair post and agree @SecretSoul, it will be interesting to see what they do with their own interests moving forward.

“ our Meghan “ ??
That event was on 10th Feb .

mrsmingleton · 27/02/2024 11:07

It's almost like she is doing little bits and pieces and then putting them in public hot on the heels of each other to create a certain impression. eg the rescue dog place . It was put on their page with the old photo from several years ago almost suggesting that that was now. There is no mention that the photo was taken then.

Mayhew: A Safe Haven for Animals | The Office of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex

I was interested to find the source of the video and went back to Sussex.com. The video is part of the updated landing page for the Welcome Project and honestly shows just how watched anything Meghan (or in fact both of them) does is. Because I looked over the new website to see what it was about on launch and have been once or twice but the level of interest to notice a small change (from a photo to a video) on a website the day it happens, screen record it, package it up and then report it in the news is…….something else.

Most people wouldn’t presume a picture taken on Meghan in the UK was current.

OP posts:
MaturingCheeseball · 27/02/2024 11:23

I did. I looked at that photo and thought, “Gosh - I can’t believe she’s in the UK,” before quickly realising.

There does seem to be a full-on “we are royal” PR assault atm. Make hay while the sun shines, I suppose; the sun shining for them being Charles and Kate off the scene.

Janiie · 27/02/2024 13:16

'and honestly shows just how watched anything Meghan (or in fact both of them) does is'

Yes they attract attention because they have behaved appallingly, people are more intrigued to see what crap they're coming up with next.

If social media had been around when the Duke Of Windsor was alive I bet those 2 would have generated a load of clicks too.

AliceOlive · 27/02/2024 13:25

Yesterday my DH said how nice it is that we don’t ever hear about them any more. (In response to something I said.) 🤣

At least that means I’m doing a better job.
