I think it's fab but it will make some of your head's explode.

The only thing that is making my head tilt (not explode because I don’t subscribe to talk of supposed explosions, outrage, fury that some are convinced we feel) is that this message is almost three years old.

As gushingly supportive as it sounds, is there nothing more recent? From anyone?

It seems odd to bring up something from 2021.

Friendship, like opinion and indeed recollections, may differ in that time frame.

MM seems to fall out with everyone. She's estranged from almost all of her family and her in laws. She has intense friendships which crumble, again and again. One wonders what the common denominator could be.

They do, the New World Translation of Holy Scriptures that a PP mentioned. There is some controversy as to how reliable a translation it is. To my knowledge the term fruitage does not feature prominently in that controversy.

Lots of people are estranged from their family - it doesn’t mean they’re the problem.

Just read one of the many ‘Stately Homes’ threads on here, innocent people live through unimaginable childhoods and home lives.

@Maireas there's a lot to consider when translating the Bible. You don't just do word for word on face value as a lot of older Bibles are in an older language and won't translate word for word to make sense in modern times. Those that meticulously translated the New World Translation would have endeavoured to keep to as literal translation as possible where modern English allows. The Bible is meant to be read by everyone and not just those versed in archaic languages. The message is clear and the same just in modern terms people understand. The words are studied in the old Greek and Hebrew text or originated from and used in the right way. Hope that makes some sense so late at night 😂

Yes lots of people are estranged from their families. Some because religious leaders tell their members to not even answer their phone to a child they have kicked out of their house for the crime of not believing what their parents believe. Or for having reported someone in their church to the police for being abused by them. (The JWs and ex JWs will get this and no need for response as not fair to derail the thread - but could not resist)

I wonder if OP expected the thread to go this way? I’m not sure she was bang up for a discussion of the epistemology of fruitage and different translations of the bible. (I’m far more up for that chat though).

Have you read any of Bart Ehrman’s books on early Christianity and the development of the New Testament? Really fascinating. If I could have it all again I would love to be a Greek or Hebrew scholar. Not religious in the slightest but I find the history and creativity of it all fascinating. The bible is the most amazing book when you strip out god from it.
