The damage is done re the racism claims. Too little too late. Poor William that day having to say the royal family was very much not a racist family. Unforgivable.

I know. It was appalling

Exactly! She will be a child for only another 16 years at the most. That's no time at all! She'll then have to spend another 70+ years as an adult with another person's nickname as her given name.

I know a woman who called her son Timmy . Not Timothy or Tim but Timmy . He was teased a lot ( Famous 5 anyone ?) and as soon as he was old enough insisted he was Tim .

Racism in the press.

Do keep up dears.

I didn’t see racism in the press. Can you link? In this country racist articles of any kind would not be tolerated, they would be removed, reported and potentially prosecuted.

She left a note on Phillip’s coffin from Lilibet.

There is no way on earth that, if there had been some heartwarming conversation between Harry and his grandmother, where she gave her blessing to use the nickname last used by her beloved mum, sister and recently deceased husband, that he would have chosen to leave it out of Spare. He would absolutely have included the event. He did not.

Ho do you know about the note?

Maybe they did have a conversation about it, and because she didn't expressly say 'no,' Harry took it as approval.

I agree . The late Queen was close to Angela Kelly and Sir Edward Young to name but 2 .
My own view for what it’s worth is that the RF have given tacit agreement to Robert Hardman to report these matters as a way of responding to some of H and M’s claims and accusations .
I look forward to reading the book .

So H&M, the Royal family do leak stories and manipulate the press.

I have a nickname as my whole name, not even that - the least cool possible derivative of the name 😭😭😭

Lilibet, we are sisters in suffering.

Actually I agree with you, if there was some good story behind this, it would have made spare.

i think for lilli, the sad truth is this would have been lovely if this was something agreed with the queen in a good relationship .

But knowing that her parents were estranged from thr royal family, at the time of her birth, and the queen clearly not happy with their behaviour and desire to monetise their titles , it was her who made them stop the trademarking and shut down Sussex royal , rejected the half in half out after they embarrassingly made the statement on collaboration with her, and put out the withering “recollections may vary” comment, then it looks like Harry and Megan were using their daughter to benefit them, build bridges. Boost the brand. And were not thinking of lilli when they did it.

There are photos everywhere of Lili (bet) I can’t see Harry has done anything to protect his children

That's interesting. I've seen one single photo on her first birthday, I haven't a clue what she looks like now. Ditto Archie. And I doubt you do

Whatever you say the media is not plastered with pictures of them, H&M do very well at protecting them and they will be much loved little children

Yet again a poster determined to diagnose them as narcissists. Horrible. Hope you feel better for that.

so true
this thread has some really nasty posts.
I find it strange that H&M are not allowed to do the same as W&K and share pictures of their children(I don't go looking so only see them on mn)
Im sure Lili will be just fine, she has 2 loving parents (and big brother)

piscofrisco · 16/01/2024 09:58

Well it's not surprising if she was. It's a made up name linked to her own name which she probably thought sounded a bit silly. But what does it matter?

And @Newchapterbeckons there is this cool thing called google. Try search terms such as Meghan and straight outta Compton, exotic DNA etc.

This is just speculation. I would like you to link the racist articles you say exist.

Williams children are the heirs to the throne, hence the difference!

Well yes, that’s the whole point of the story. The “blessing” that was claimed, and over which Harry threatened libel against the BBC, didn’t happen.

But how do the press know how she signed it? Its very intrusive.

Moonlightdust · 16/01/2024 10:14

I don’t know why the press has to keep rehashing the Harry and Meghan thing. I think we are getting sick of it. Why is this even news? It is absolutely no surprise what so ever - anyone could guess the Queen’s true reaction. Given the situation, it’s very doubtful she would’ve been overjoyed. Even if there were no tensions within the family, using the Queen’s personal nickname for your child is a step too far.

ManchesterLu · 16/01/2024 10:15

Take royalty out of the issue. The fact is, a grandson named his baby after his grandmother, and there's no way on this earth she will have been anything but flattered about that.

If I remember correctly, it was visible on the tv footage of the funeral. The late Queen was obviously ok with it being on show. At least she hadn’t signed it “Cabbage”, his more personal nick name for her as pp have said 😆

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 16/01/2024 10:22

Well if she didn’t sign it, and since you seem to believe the RF controls the press, I am sure the stories (in every newspaper, left and right) would have been quashed. And let’s not pretend you care about the Queen’s privacy being intruded upon.

Spot on Saffron. She was fabulously wealthy and privileged but she gave everything to her role - she couldn't even allow her children to take their father's family name.

Couldnt even allow her children to take her fathers family name??

She made choices, and that was one of them.

Edited

its as it’s in a new biography being released. But yes, when in poor relations, using a very personal nickname, which isn’t even a name, doesn’t seem likely to be something that would cause joy. Elizabeth I suspect would have been fine.
