With the best will in the world I don’t see why William OR Charles should ever pay a bean towards Harry’s life ever, whether he returns to the UK or not. He inherited substantially from his mother whose divorce settlement was large in the 90s, if it was invested just to grow with inflation then it’s a lot more now. He has earned from Spotify, Netflix and Penguin selling his family’s privacy down the river.

Even after tax and if half of his half goes to Meghan under California law… I reckon he can still afford a house and some school fees. And luckily, so can she! Screw housing him for nothing. He wanted out, he can buy himself a lovely house out. He didn’t like his Christopher Wren cottage in W8 or his pretty house in Windsor.

They can all love him and talk to him (bet they don’t actually say anything though that could ever be taken down and used in evidence against them in a late book deal) but my God he can buy his own fucking house.

ArcaneWireless · 29/12/2023 23:25

I agree Duchess

Although, like others, I can’t see Meghan or Harry wanting to come back here anyway. I believe it would probably be a cold day in hell for them to want the children to be schooled here.

Gardeningtime · 30/12/2023 07:43

I can’t see them wanting to come back either, unless it benefits them, they won’t do it for thr kids or their education. If leaks are to be believed they already want to start to repair the relationship, asking to come to sandringham at Xmas, which is clearly so they can bolster their brand. Trying to do the half in half out in reverse.

lets face it, it’s bad in the us. And if it doesn’t get better, I can see them trying to repair and come back, but not for years yet. If they come back for secondary education, it would only be as they think it benefits them.

i absolutely can see harry wanting to come back part time if the marriage ended and having the kids here during the holidays etc. and i think the royals would permit it.

i really doubt harry ever wanted to be a list, or hang with them. To live with celebs in the us. It was never ever his thjng, he showed no hankering for it. If anything he wanted a private normal life. I think he got caught up in what Megan wanted, was sold a dream of being bigger than his brother, wealthier, loved , hanging with huge stars, having a platform. It played to his resentment and his ego, his sense of entitlement and self importance.

he is only in the USA as that’s where Megan wants to be, it’s her dream. He’d never have done that on his own, and if the marriage ended, he’d be back.

Chouxpastryishard · 30/12/2023 08:02

He can’t come back though, because of his children. If he wants to see them regularly he has to stay.

Exactly. Why should the man be kept in luxury all his life ? He doesn’t work . He’s a waste of space.

He can absolutely come back. Have them here in the holidays. Fly back and forward once a month. Of course he can’t come back and never go to the us or have his kids here, or if he wished to share custody or see them every weekend, but he can easily come back and have them over the hols , make trips back etc, he’s quite used to doing that in reverse. And happy to pop over for a day or two for court.

His disclosures in the book and interviews made it clear that he often felt burnt out and resentful doing royal tours and duties so he can't really resume them with any credibility.

QueenOfHertz · 30/12/2023 08:49

What happens when their money runs out? Which can’t be too long. Apart from their security costs, keeping that whopping mansion air conditioned won’t be cheap.

I suspect they have a lot left, what with all the Netflix, Spotify money and the other things they did like better up. Also they seem to charge a lot of expenses to archewell. They were also jointly worth about 30 million before they left, and Charles gave them another 4.5 million after they did.

but you’re right, they have a very expensive lifestyle. All the law suits for one. The private jets. The clothes. But they will have financial advisors, and get a huge amount of interest on their capital, and reduce a lot of their expenditure by giving to charity and thus reducing tax.

Newsflash, H - it's called having a job. That thing where you turn up every day to earn your living, even when there are other things you'd rather be doing.

Or as the late Queen reportedly said, 'work is the rent you pay for the space you occupy on earth'.

And if you don't like the job you've got, you look around for another one. You don't throw a massive tantrum and strop off to another country.

And if he felt burnt out when there was a very well-oiled and experienced organisation doing all the planning and preparation for him, he just had to attend the briefings, read the briefing notes and turn up, how did he expect to cope now he and M are having to come up with the ideas and do all the work themselves, which H has absolutely no training or experience (or aptitude) for.

They are living a billionaire lifestyle. About 25 years ago Fergie got through £4m in a year. And I thought how. And she lived a far more modest lifestyle than them. I wonder how many staff thry employ. But probably their wages will be paid for out of their charity/foundation.

I am not convinced that Meghan was particularly rich despite what her supporters say . Other than Suits ( where she was by no means the star) she had nothing g significant on her CV . She didn’t own property .
Their lifestyle is eye- wateringly expensive . Even though they will still receive freebies, I suspect they won’t be as frequent now that they are seen as tainted by so many.
As there are 2 young children I hope they are happy and stay together but I suspect they are keen to re-establish the Royal connection which after all is their USP . However worthy the Invictus Games , let’s face it , most people want gossip ! Spotify dropped them because their ideas didn’t appeal and I am pretty sure that Netflix will end their relationship soon . They keep saying they have lots of things coming up but when ?
If there is to be a rapprochement it will have to be while Charles is alive as I doubt William will entertain him after everything Harry said about Catherine .
It’s all a bit sad .

Mylovelygreendress · 30/12/2023 09:46

Is Harry still with Better Up ?

Think so, but the staff are complaining as they had lay offs and he does sod all. I guess a contract in place.

agree, it’s the only thing of note she’s done. But she was being paid 47 k an episode as it was syndicated, so I would say she was very wealthy. Think it was estimated at 5 million.

pinkmont · 30/12/2023 10:00

They also have recently made friends with billionaires, Tyler Perry, Oprah Winfrey, Ken Griffen, and like Andrew and Fergie before them (and probably other Royals too), they accept financial favours from these people, via the use of private jets, homes, holidays and probably 'donations' to their foundation of which they can use most of it for their own personal use, due to where they chose to register their foundation. So while they live a billionaire lifestyle, they aren't covering all the costs of that lifestyle.

I believe if Harry did need financial support, his father would be there for him, but not so that he could continue to live the lifestyle they are currently living.

Yes, Meghan lived in a small rented apartment in Toronto when she met Harry, so it is interesting how she was disappointed with Harry's batchelor abode and their subsequent home at Frogmore Cottage. Their Montesito mansion is absolutely vast in comparison to what Meghan was used to.

I find it very hard to believe that the person 5th on the call sheet for a basic cable TV drama which filmed in Toronto for budget reasons could earn anything close to that per episode. Claire Foy got less than that as the star of 'The Crown', Netflix's no expenses spared prestige flagship.

Even if she had been earning that amount, which I doubt, she'd have had to pay agents' fees, taxes probably both in Canada and California, a publicist, and more. $5 million in the bank sounds very generous but even if true, it wouldn't last long on their current lifestyle.

SilkFloss · 30/12/2023 10:07

How good an idea is it to befriend millionaires? Sooner or later, they might want re-imbursing with favours in some way.

pinkmont · 30/12/2023 10:33

Suits started out as quite a low budget production, maybe by the last few series that she was in, she was earning 47k per episode, but I suspect she earned a lot less than that during the first several series. All the actors started on much lower salaries than they earned in the final few series. Gabriel Macht reportedly started out earning around 100k in the first series and was earning 500k by the final series.

I’m on the pivot for a minute.

I’ve just managed to watch the programme about the Coronation Year. I loved it. I worked the day of the Coronation and had to watch it long after the event. (Although I was able to catch a keek at the moment of crowning)

The diamond. The embroidery. The Choir. The wonder of it all. The beauty. The pomp and circumstance. The cheers from the soldiers ‘out the backie’.

The little ‘wheee’ as the butterfly was released into the sunshine. 😍

But the people. The actual people. The family.

I loved that her sister said, ‘he brings to her, everything’ and ‘that she is his rock’.

The King. The Queen. The love and affection between William and his dad. And can I just also mention the Princess Royal. She is also properly marvellous. And the quiet, beautiful way she spoke of the late Queen and our new Queen. So warm. I’m so glad that serendipity made itself available so she could be with her mam at the end.

I saw a genuine love in that family. A genuine humour. A genuine warmth. A genuine care. And a genuine sense of duty.

They all seemed to be blessed with a twinkle.

What a shame that two will not grow in the shine of those twinkles.

And pivot.

But is was a television programme and very biased. We all put on act in public. No idea what they're like behind closed doors

They’re evil shape shifters who have no human feelings.

ArcaneWireless · 30/12/2023 14:58

Aye some do put on an act in public - nothing to say that is the case here.

By the same token others certainly seemed to put on an act and then whoopsy - mask malfunction a-go-go.

Producing an outcome that seems to be at the very least unexpected and at worst a bit of a disaaaaaaaaster.
