A turkey, absolute balls of stuffing or a right Christmas cracker? We'll let you decide. Please keep the discussion interesting, civilised and relevant - the Holiday Armadillo is lurking!

It has been a long time since I’ve been dressed up to the nines.

it does seem to me that the floating against the floor length of a frock might be tricky to walk in. Does it naturally kick out with you as you walk?

Aa lovely though the ch skirt is, I always think M suits a ballerina length or 50s style frock better.

I'd definitely trip over it and go flying Grin

Wow. The Hill is libertarian left leaning, isn’t it, not generally known for sticking up for monarchy.

Yeah, the problem isn’t really “what on earth they wearing” though maybe they would prefer that to be the main topic.

If they had absolutely any non post-colonial connection to Jamaica or Bob Marley it might not be such a glaring issue.

Remember when she didn't understand the hint from the Queen's staff "the Queen will be wearing a hat".
Why didn't they just say "wear a hat" instead of hinting about it?

Beacuse that’s an established etiquette - to let you know what the most important person will be wearing so you know the dress code. It was a day function, so “black tie” or “white tie” isn’t applicable, but saying “your host will be wearing a hat” stands in for that.

This comes with a big “allegedly”, because it comes from I think Tom Bower’s book , but it’s like when Meghan was invited to come to a dinner hosted by one of Harry’s friends and his wife, and she herself contacted the host to ask what designer his wife would be wearing.

JaneJeffer · 26/01/2024 20:02

Well it may be the established etiquette of the nobility but I think they should have had a bit of cop on that someone just arrived from the US might not understand!

Mylovelygreendress · 26/01/2024 20:04

@AliceOlive ouch ! That article …

Why didn’t she open her mouth and ask ??

JaneJeffer · 26/01/2024 20:11

Well I don't know but maybe she thought they were just telling her what the queen was going to wear? How hard would it have been for them to say the queen is going to wear a hat so you should too? That's all I'm saying!

I’m not sure she wanted to understand. She didn’t seem to want to take any advice about how to fit in 🤷‍♀️

Wasn't it the case that she was offered Sophie Wessex (as she then was) to help mentor her through this sort of stuff?

I think Sophie dresses really well!

If Tom Bower’s story is true, she clearly did understand though, as she herself had asked exactly that question in relation to a social function she’d been invited to

CathyorClaire · 26/01/2024 20:19

Never mind the dress.

Have we covered why they were deemed so unimportant they didn't get a seat where the freebie waters flowed?

AliceOlive · 26/01/2024 20:43

Maybe the PM got his photo op with Harry and that was all he needed?

CathyorClaire · 26/01/2024 20:50

Confirms my point.

Thanks 😎

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 26/01/2024 21:01

@JaneJeffer MM was offered Sophie Wessex, Lady Susan Hussey and Nana Kofi Twumasi-Ankrah to help her with etiquette. She rejected all of them and then moaned that nobody helped her.

ArcaneWireless · 26/01/2024 21:23

That help may have been useful going forward. Shame it wasn’t taken.

And as right as she gets many outfits, I think any designer collaborations could be lifted into jaw dropping realms with a very skilled seamstress on call.

I do wonder what miracles one would work for me.

That was really odd

Even the bodyguards got free water

derxa · 26/01/2024 22:10

I think Meghan is what is known as a contrarian

JaneJeffer · 26/01/2024 22:57

OK then, I'm coming at it from an Irish point of view where we would say would you ever put on a fecking hat so I know nothing of royal etiquette 🤷🏻‍♀️

ArcaneWireless · 26/01/2024 23:27

We would probably be along the lines of ‘are ye nae gan tae pit somethin on yer heid’ @JaneJeffer

She’ll be fine with etiquette these days.

There’s always Google after all.

Toddlers In Tiaras No GIF

I think she’d have twigged pretty quick if it had involved the emerald tiara…

JaneJeffer · 26/01/2024 23:59

I don't think she suits hats anyway
