A turkey, absolute balls of stuffing or a right Christmas cracker? We'll let you decide. Please keep the discussion interesting, civilised and relevant - the Holiday Armadillo is lurking!

@Gardeningtime sorry for the double tag, I did suspect they were their own donors tbh

I’m one of those who don’t think they need a foundation, donating directly to established ones would be a far better way of helping.

@Gardeningtime i thought they looked happy to be there. According to People mag, H&M were invited as they’re friendly with the Robbins family.

i do agree that they probably flew by jet with paramount.

Oh cmon, they clearly are not friends with the head of paramount, that was a business transaction all day long, and simply a way to explain why they were there, likely without havinf To say it was a paid appearance. Or maybe they are looking to sign with paramount, time will tell but that’s not about personal friendships.

Presumably that’s the story they put out as it sounds better than ‘they were paid’ or ‘they were hustling’.

Femitattler · 26/01/2024 08:37

@TheCountessofFitzdotterel whats wrong with hustling or paid appearances? They’d admit that as people signed to a speaking agency where they do pretty much the same thing.

MrsFinkelstein · 26/01/2024 08:37

Whatever the reason they were there, it clearly did what it was meant to - get publicity for a film very few people had heard of previously.

If that's what they do now, then fair enough. It's a living, as they say.

Such a difference in 5 years.

From Meghan being able to clear out all the best seats in Wimbledon to sitting in a ballgown in row 10 while everyone around you is in smart casual, and sitting in the Royal Box at events to table 115 at the back of a room.

Harry is at least still maintaining the Royal tradition of posing next to some questionable portraits.

@Gardeningtime both parties live in Montecito so I don’t find it unbelievable. But we’ll have to see.

Femitattler · 26/01/2024 08:44

@MrsFinkelstein lol, Meghan was dressed in a spaghetti top and flared skirt.

Hair in a laid back manner with a statement earring that’s it. She looked lovely elegant.

Royal boxes are not the be and end all. Table 115 at an award ceremony in support of a kids charity isn’t the shambles you’re desperate for it to be.

Gardeningtime · 26/01/2024 08:47

I do hope for their sake this wasn’t a paid gig. The more I think about it though, the more it seems the most likely answer to why they were there, and their awkward demeanour when they were.

and I hope it’s not for their sake, if they are now sunk so low they are just cashing in on their notoriety and turning up at premiers for money, and ones like this where no big names are attending, then it shows how much they have lost, how much this has failed. There is a certain humiliation about it.

it also confirms they’ve absolutely nothing else going on and this is what they need to do to earn.

if it was a paid gig , industry insiders will know, and that will damage them even further. It certainly won’t be reputation enhancing if they are rent a guest for publicity.

but there has been no real work, since the docuseries and the Netflix thing they did the intro for. All they do is turn up at award ceremonies.

pinkmont · 26/01/2024 08:50

Does that guy own paramount or is he an employee? If an employee is it even ethical, as a CEO, to offer a 'family friend' a paid for junket.

I too suspect they got paid, which is absolutely fine, they are not the only celebs who get paid to attend an event.

The issue with H&M is that, while they bring attention, a lot of it is very negative noise, so for some brands it won't be worth it.

Femitattler · 26/01/2024 08:51

I will say that this thread has helped me understand the confusion (on here and a couple other sites) at H&Ms happiness in Jamaica.

People are focused on royal boxes and head tables as if that’s what matters.

Sunk so low, lol. Please be serious. A paid appearance and a speaking gig come with the same premise. Presence of a sought after guest. Whatever the reason they qualify for it.

they were invited to a premiere and they accepted it. Good for them.

Ok we need to agree to disagree, I think from where they were with Spotify and Netflix 5 years ago, for content, to having nothing and being paid to front up at a premier no one would ever have heard of otherwise is a major drop, but you don’t and that’s ok.

Femitattler · 26/01/2024 09:01

You know what, now I hope they got paid for this!

Ive seen coverage from Kenya, Middle East to Australia and Canada.

I’d never have found out about the movie otherwise.

Femitattler · 26/01/2024 09:05

@Gardeningtime yup agree to disagree. I think they are thriving and very happy.

I hope you’re right, but that seems very implausible.

it’s ok to be a fan, but it gets a bit silly when you can’t have a balanced discussion.

Femitattler · 26/01/2024 09:28

@Gardeningtime thats why I started posting here, the discussion was far from balanced.

It’s not implausible to me but each to their own and all that.

Femitattler · 26/01/2024 09:45

I saw Charles went into Hospital, hope he has a successful surgery and quick recovery.

Gardeningtime · 26/01/2024 07:05

I do wonder actually if they were paid to go to the Marley premier. Paramount has access to private jets and regularly flies folks around the world, so that would be a negligible cost to them.

payimg harry and Megan say 1m, flying them there, giving them accommodation, would be way cheaper than paying for advertising for the movie, In all the publications around the world it then appeared in.

they didn’t look delighted to be there, and Megan distinctly uneasy, which does make me wonder if this was a paid appearance.

Let's be honest here it's not a world famous blockbuster which has been eagerly waited on. A premiere in Jamaica and then a theatre release on 14th Feb and then it will go onto streaming on Paramount Plus. It has limited appeal. I had never even heard of it being made.

JSMill · 26/01/2024 10:24

A film about Bob Marley has limited appeal? His music is still very popular and I know lots of people who went to the stage show in London. I don't even like his music but I intend to see the film as he was a very interesting person. I think it's very condescending to think the film needed H & M to publicise it.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 26/01/2024 10:29

I’m surprised nobody has heard of the film, it’s been trailed in the cinema this year and the end of last - I’ve seen trailers at least 4 times. Maybe nobody else goes to the cinema anymore! It’s not a big film, though, a cast of unknowns apart from James N (who is little known in the States. I last saw him on stage in A Little Life, terrible adaption of an awfully miserable book). Shame the producers did not cast a native Jamaican actor in the main role of Bob Marley.

Femitattler · 26/01/2024 10:38

I haven’t been to the cinema in ages so that explains why I hadn’t heard of it. I’m sure that as promo moved statewide and crosses over to the UK, it would have garnered more coverage.

But that’s low budget right, the big movies are promoted on tv, the stars do promo interviews, there is billboards, a hugely expensive campaign. Showing a trailer in the cinema, is basic, and hiring, if that’s what they did, Harry and Megan to turn up, to get some publicity as they are so notorious, would give a huge amount of publicity to it, as it did, for very little cost.

generally for the big movies the budget is never less than 100 million, so you can see why just cinema trailers, and hiring Harry and Megan is very low budget..

Femitattler · 26/01/2024 10:54

But @Gardeningtime how do you know H&M were hired for very little cost.i have to laugh 😅
