A turkey, absolute balls of stuffing or a right Christmas cracker? We'll let you decide. Please keep the discussion interesting, civilised and relevant - the Holiday Armadillo is lurking!

.

What's he playing?

Yeah, you could be the greatest, you can be the best
You can be the King Kong bangin' on your chest
You can beat the world, you could win the war
You can talk to God, go bangin' on his door
You can throw your hands up, you can beat the clock
You can move a mountain, you can break rocks
Some will call it practice, some will call it luck
But either way, you're going to the history books

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 16/01/2024 17:14

I was thinking more like Deliverance for rodents 😂Feel like I'm always chasing off squirrels!

Aww we don't have squirrels round here just nasty minks

Will anyone else be buying the Robert Hardman book? I think I might indulge.

I think I might when it comes out in paperback. Hardman's a pretty good writer about the RF without the cringing and fawning you get with Brandreth.

This is what my bird feeders look like every day, @JaneJeffer Greedy greys, sadly, not the elegant reds of our fair shore. Are minks native or escapees from farms? I imagine they are a bit ferrety?

@MrsDanversGlidesAgain I've ordered it, so will report in due course!

Did you read Courtiers? that was very interesting.

JaneJeffer · 16/01/2024 20:19

They're American escapees @Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar whose freedom flight is not appreciated by the native species

I bought a copy of Courtiers and Revenge to read over Xmas, started with Revenge and I'm still trying to find the time to finish! I have watched plenty of Valentine Low's interviews though, I really like him.

I see that Scobie is quoting Brandreth's book now to refute the Lilibet story. Considering Brandreth is Camilla's best buddy, that's pretty much scraping the barrel of his credibility.

Revenge is a really interesting book..

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 16/01/2024 22:34

It is, but I am finding it slow going because of all the references. I'm spending half the time looking up his source material and going down rabbit holes. I'm enjoying his style of writing - and would not want to be under his scrutiny!

Tina Browns book is very good to. I wouldn’t give GB any credence. He is quite a dandy with all his octo and nonogenarian Dames’ but he Paul Burrell like with the royals.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 17/01/2024 10:31

Thanks for the recommendation @AuroraCake, have also now ordered The Palace Papers.

The Palace Papers is hugely enjoyable.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 18/01/2024 08:07

@SqueakyDinosaur Thanks for that, good to know. Managed to get a very cheap second hand copy to offset the cost of the Hardman book (which was discounted a bit, so not too bad).

I wanted to pop this story in, as it doesn't seem to have been mentioned anywhere, about the Middletons and their local sub post master, who was wrongfully convicted in the Post Office scandal. The family have, to their credit, stood by him and his family through it all, and he was a guest at Catherine and William's wedding, which is lovely.

I do wonder when Scobie and Harry are banging on about racism and unconscious bias, whether they give a tiny fuck about the actual human beings who have interacted with the targets of their nasty aspersions and accusations.

Note to readers: this is an article from the Independent, so no need to have a Daily Mail froth. Hopefully this is a left wing enough source for you.

Thanks @Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar , I did read that when the news reported on the itv program !
Just goes to show how much we don't know about what they do in the background 👍

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 18/01/2024 10:01

Staying with the topic of race, one of OS's many criticisms of the RF is that they made no statements in the wake of George Floyd/BLM - as if the RF should be commentating on a criminal case and political activity on other shores.

I've recently watched a documentary film called The Fall of Minneapolis (Alpha Media on YouTube) that I would recommend to anyone wanting to see the other side of what the mainstream press was reporting about the events and subsequent trial. Utterly shocking, and there may well have been a real miscarriage of justice. It made me realise that the knee jerk reactions of our politicians to these incidents, before all the evidence is available is so damaging for getting to the truth of the matter and a fair trial. The RF were right to stay silent.

I wonder if “sources close to the Sussexes” - or just Scobie - will leak that they’ve sent flowers or their best wishes or some other thoroughly insincere message to the Princess of Wales. Or the King actually. They must be mulling over how best to remind everyone they’re in on it. While not being.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 18/01/2024 13:42

@DuchessOfPort They must know they will be jumped on if they did that, so hopefully they will keep quiet and make any gestures privately. Harry and Meghan are apparently in touch with the King, so there's no need for a public hoo ha and statements about it.

I doubt they know what’s ailing Kate. I mean I’d not tell them, would you? Too high a risk they will leak it.

DuchessOfPort · 18/01/2024 13:54

Perhaps Harry’s just polishing up a sniper rifle and ironing his camouflage gear to take William out and announce himself Regent. Princess Anne will rugby tackle him to the floor while Meghan’s got three tiaras on at once.

I wouldn't rate Harry's chances of getting past Princess Anne and Mike Tindall! 😉

ajandjjmum · 18/01/2024 14:16

Me neither! I hope Zara and Mike got back from Aus in time for their DD's birthday yesterday. I also wondered (as I'm so sad!) if they might have a party for the family at the weekend, which would be a great distraction for the three Wales DC.

It’s strange ( and a bit sad) to think that a few years ago , Harry would have been at William’s side giving support to him and the DC.
Now I very much doubt he knows any more than us.
