If he is paying for /accepting an award like that, it’s another huge pr mistake. Huge. The piss taking will be the worst yet.

I was just thinking the other day, they do something stupid, then lay low for awhile , then do something stupid again. And here we are.

Pretty sure every award they’ve received since Megxit has been pay-for-play. Seriously, what have they ever done that’s been worthy of an award?

They outdid themselves with the Hertz appearance, where they went through the rental car office in return for the free Suburban/Cadillac multi-car “convoy” ride to the ceremony. Hardly a coincidence she wore a gold dress and gold shoes that evening!

It's just all so pitiful, and such a shame for people to whom these awards actually matter. It’s true what they say: these two suck the oxygen out of wherever they go, all the attention ends up being on them and for all the wrong reasons. They make jokers out of people, and NOT by comparison to their own brilliance (which is what I suspect they think!).

I can’t understand it at all, it is to award people with extraordinary contribution to aviation. Harry clearly is not in that category.no more than the thousands or millions of other pilots. That’s not doing him down, it simply is very clear he has not made an extraordinary contribution to aviation.

the fact scobie leaked it, says Harry and Megan asked him to, so they are chuffed about it.

but it makes a mockery of the award. And begs the question, did he make a very large contribution and request it.

Clearly not a fresh start for 2024 for H - more embarrassing/ill advised PR. Perhaps he never listens to his advisers and thinks he knows best.🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m grasping at straws here but could it be anything to do with Travelyst? Or something not related to his pilot skills?

I’m trying to ignore the rogue thought that it might be he’s taken so many private jets he’s given the whole industry a boost…

Snag with that is that Travelyst isn't an aviation company, and it provides services to travellers, not the aviation industry

Also, Travelyst seems to have gone very quiet - I don't think it's on anyone's radar when they're planning a holiday, or at least not in the UK. Is it more of a go-to in US or anywhere else? Or does it need a bit of reinvigoration?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think he's a fully qualified pilot?
He served as co-pilot and gunner, and (AFAIR) could only pilot the helicopter if the pilot was incapacitated.
I didn't think he'd gotten his full licence to fly solo?
It's great he served in that role, but it was hardly innovative or groundbreaking.
It's a bit demoralising seeing how many of these awards are simply paid for PR.
The charity does sound worthwhile so hopefully this will get them lots of donations.

I believe that's correct, @MrsFinkelstein. I feel a little sorry for the American servicemen and women who probably have done remarkable things in aviation, and would be remarkable and inspirational role models to children, but who don't have the means to donate in exchange for an accolade.

I do wonder how someone like John travolta will feel presenting him with the award. I’d not be happy if I was him.

I think they have damaged the image of the awards, brought it into disrepute, and can only hope for their sake harry gracefully declines , realising what an error in judgement this is.

i think we all hoped in 24 they would maybe settle down, either do something worth while or have a career, realise you can’t make yourself popular by buying awards you would never be entitled to. That there is no short cut.

but here we are. Barely 2 weeks in and he’s all over global media again for something utterly ludicrous.

Oh you are very welcome! Did you see yesterday's? Another damning indictment of Prince Andrew - and not particularly complimentary about the rest of the RF either - very interesting to get perspectives from expert royal watchers who are not necessarily supportive of the RF. I like Andrew Gold, he has a touch of Louis Theroux about him in his open manner. Also, do have a listen to the Scandal Mongers Podcast, of which Andrew Lownie is one half, lots of interesting history and research about the royals and other topics too.
