Harry and Megan are no where near as wealthy as Kate and William, not even close. As William has now the duchy of Cornwall, making him a billionaire.

The Duchy income is not for Williams personal use though surely? Not all of it anyway.

Vespanest · 12/12/2023 10:28

The Prince of Wales has use of the Duchy of Cornwall, it remains a highly protected asset and why Diana divorce settlement did not reflect the wealth it contains. Should William step down, he loses all access to it as it belongs to the title not the person.

I just find that really weird and disturbing. But they both do it. They both lie. Outright, big lies, disproven ones, I genuinely have never met anyone who does that.

Narcissists do that all the time. Textbook behaviour. Their grandiose thinking makes them feel they can simply get away with it and they enjoy the power of manipulating others. If you can lie deadpan enough and others believe you then it's the purest form of manipulation. Omid Scobie is very similar with his bold-faced massive lie on national TV that the translators added the names into the book. The fact Meghan deals with someone like that is one of the biggest red flags into her character as well.

The thing is, narcissists can often be hugely fun and generous as well. They can be charming to spend time with, beneficial as friends or colleagues if they find your status "worthy" enough for them, and they will go out of their way to do good things for others. Out of the two, Meghan ticks most checkboxes for NPD. Harry appears grandiose but he grew up in an extremely dysfunctional family and he's literally a prince so I don't think he could come across any other way.

Also agree with PPs who said it doesn't seem Harry's image was completely shielded from the public. During the years where W&K were dating, he was in the Army, the fab 3 etc he appeared genuinely happy. He looks like the typical case of meeting the wrong partner and becoming embroiled in a complex, destructive and abusive relationship.

Chouxpastryishard · 12/12/2023 10:46

It’s the look on his face now that tells the story. Angry, surly, resentful. His face looks like that most of the time now.

Josette77 · 12/12/2023 10:49

My sister and a friend have Borderline personality disorder. They both lie to shocking degrees. It's bizarre to watch when you know the truth and their stories constantly change. I'm honestly not sure they even know they are lying. I think they believe their lies.

Harry shows a lot of BPD characteristics imo, and the loss of his mother would certainly fit.

Meghan screams narcissist. If the truth isn't flattering, then it isn't true.

Harry, meghan and omid scobie all tell such huge and easily disprovable lies that I'm truly shocked. The lies are in this book and in most of the output provided by these people. Harry and meghan with Omids collaboration are doing precisely what they complained so bitterly about and alleged the Rf did, leaking and planting stories to the detriment of others. Personally I don't believe the royal family themselves leak to harm other members as alleged because that makes no sense. What I do believe is there are staff members who do leak stories for money.

rosyglowcondition · 12/12/2023 10:57

@User2346522 Sadly I think you're right.

I think this is something that is so difficult for people to grasp. They have access to so many things that don’t truly belong to them. They can’t just use everything as they see fit. They can’t just say “Hey! Let’s go to Rome this weekend!” Their lives are not just their own and the palaces, jewels, etc probably don’t mean to them what they would to most people.

Cosywintertime · 12/12/2023 11:11

No, right now the duchy is his, it but when he ascends the throne he will pass it to George. He takes about 6 million a year salary from it,plus incremental earnings over 20 million, and the profit is then used to privately fund his family as well. When he becomes king, he inherits everything from Charles, from the billions of dollars worth of art and artefacts on.

william and Kate are very much wealthier than Harry and Megan. William personally is thought to be worth about 100 million today.

diddl · 12/12/2023 11:12

Their complete disregard for the financial support Charles has given them is awful.

I think he really believes that it should be given though.

The fact that he thought that he could have a half in half out & literally merch being a Royal shows how clueless/deluded/entitled he is.

And remember Megan in her 70 grand engagement dress. And Harry saying Charles said she had to buy her own clothes? And Harry thinking that was outrageous…

JenniferJupiterVenusandMars · 12/12/2023 11:20

Showing my ignorance here but could Charles put an injunction on Scobie and the Sussexes? Surely before long someone has to shut them up? Or will they be allowed to continue with their treasonous behaviour?

It’s done. You can’t unring ghe bell. An injunction is to stop release of very specific info, there is no sign anything more is forthcoming, never mind what something specifically, and for what’s done, as said, you can’t unring a bell.

Didn’t he say something absolutely preposterous about M making her own clothes to keep costs down? Can’t remember exactly what was said and where but it sounded pretty ridiculous at the time!

What Cosywintertime said, but I did think that when the Palace said that it “was carefully considering all its options” following the Dutch version’s naming two Royals, then didn’t mean they’ll sue Omid or his publisher. They were I think sending a clear message to other people that they will take action against them if they take this information and run with it.

No MM offered to make her own clothes.

LeggyLegsEleven · 12/12/2023 11:39

My BIL/SIL are massive narcissists. They tell massive lies about us to our faces. All their lies are done to make them look like victims usually.

I stand corrected, although that is equally bonkers IMHO!

I think that the Duchy of Cornwall has assets of a billion - but that is not the same thing as income and I don't think he can sell the Duchy.

I have read that Charles had an income of around £20-22 million a year but there would also be costs although it is obviously a lot of money. In 2019/20 the then Prince Charles paid over £5 million - or a quarter of his income - to pay for the official duties and some private expenses of the (then) Cambridges and Sussexes.

Harry and Meghan could have easily made these sums if they had produced better content for Spotify and Netflix.

rosyglowcondition · 12/12/2023 11:53

I think the royals ever suing anyone and going to trial is a long shot. High risk stakes for them so it's avoided even in the face of clear libel. The Sussexes and OS know this and use it to their full advantage.

I do think though the Dutch publisher and especially the translators should have although it's now probably too late because he has admitted he did write it.

I have no doubt it was deliberate because the book goes through so many processes before it is published. Did they seriously not send a translated copy back to OSs agent to proof read?

HonoriaLucastaDelagardie · 12/12/2023 11:56

Their complete disregard for the financial support Charles has given them is awful.

Charles hosted and paid for their wedding reception. In FF, they said it had gone way over budget. So there were a couple of adults in their thirties openly stating that they couldn't, or chose not to, stick to a budget, and didn't seem to appreciate how juvenile and ungrateful it made them look.

IcedPurple · 12/12/2023 11:56

The publishers maybe, but why is it the responsibility of the translators? Their job is to translate what's in front of them, not worry about the legal ramifications. That's up to the publishers' legal team.

mateysmum · 12/12/2023 11:57

The problem for Harry is that in court "his truth" comes up against "the truth". He struggles to see that one is more valid than the other.

But Omid said the Dutch translators or publisher must have added the names. He denied vehemently that he had written those names, so the only inference was that it was the translator or the publisher. Defamatory to both

Yes, but he then backed off that very quickly and corrected, but even then he laid blame for an early edition going to print and the publishers have said that’s not right either,
