A continuing civilised and enjoyable discussion of all things relating to Endgame. Please keep posts on topic - I do not want to have to invoke Ross Gellar again!

As @jeffgoldblum so wisely said, @twinklystar23 - Anne would tell them to naff off! They probably wouldn't be able to hurt or upset her, so why bother. Although who knows why Andrew never seems to draw their ire.

They attack up, not down. IMO, their attacks on Charles, Camilla, William and Catherine are stupid and short-sighted in the extreme, but if their aim is to bring down the monarchy, they've got to attack them. But they never attacked the Queen and PP (too beloved and too old at the time, so would make them look bad), they've never attacked Anne, Zara & Mike, Peter Phillips (who has been involved in all kinds of commercial ventures), or any of the York clan. However, all of them are below the Sussexes in the pecking order. They never attacked Edward and Sophie until they became D&D of E.

That’s an interesting take. Hadn’t thought of that before, but yes , it’s a very ill advised strategy.

I think he's claimed that Edward is the germophobe, Choux.

I would like to know what H&M thought about K&W being made P&PoW while all they got was "I want also to express my love for Harry and Meghan as they continue to build their lives overseas"

What else was he supposed to say though?

W&K were always going to become P&PoW weren't they?

Moving up to this was always I would have thought going to push Charles & William closer I would have thought.

miri1985 · 13/12/2023 08:38

For those who have read Endgame. Is there any mention of the first televised speech KCIII made when he became King?

I would like to know what H&M thought about K&W being made P&PoW while all they got was "I want also to express my love for Harry and Meghan as they continue to build their lives overseas"

As far as I remember its not mentioned. Just did a search for some different keywords ("overseas", "speech" and "love") and none of them brought it up so I don't think it was mentioned

RecoIIectionsMayVary · 13/12/2023 08:41

but if their aim is to bring down the monarchy

Do they really think they are capable of that?

As a country we've beheaded Kings and yet the monarchy remains.

That's quite an apt article and yes spells out the hypocrisy.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry speak at the World Mental Health Day Festival in New York on October 10, 2023. The couple called for a "fact-based" world.

RecoIIectionsMayVary · 13/12/2023 08:45

Just reading a story in the DM about Paddy McGuiness' experience with Harry, you'd have to wonder would he have revealed this if Harry hadn't thrown the doors open by spilling his own (and others) secrets

I guess once the floodgates are opened...

This could cause really difficulties.

It's interesting that the first Newsweek article says that Charles made the alleged remark and Kate was there - seems extremely unfair that Kate is now branded a racist just for being in the same room.

I think that Omid and his friends on the internet are very anti the Princess of Wales, and so allowing her to be tarred with the same brush, however tenuously, suits them completely

CallmeSand · 13/12/2023 09:01

@Hughs it's the old American thing of "guilty by association".

Harry was there too, wasn't he? And says he didn't challenge the remark? I wonder if he is also guilty by association 😂

I had wondered about that as a possible scenario.
Charles says something to Kate, she nods politely as you do when dinosaur old FIL says something a little bit out of line but not actually malicious, and is forever treated as if she was a full contributor to the conversation.
I suspect it’s relatively difficult to challenge senior royals on their language given the hierarchy and formality of palace culture.

That article provides a good account of why people are still talking about them - they have behaved outrageously. When public figures behave badly, there will always be a sense of curiosity about what will happen next and when they will get their comeuppance.

Yes, it's surely no coincidence that there have been so many anti-Kate threads on MN lately. It must drive them absolutely nuts that she is so popular and dignified.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 13/12/2023 09:26

Nobody knows what was said. It could have been completely innocuous. Meghan only knows second hand. Harry may have exaggerated, or he genuinely thinks it was unconscious bias. Either way, if he was present in the room, he's the one that should have been challenging it, not Catherine. Why do all paths of blame lead to her? They seem unhealthily obsessed.

Why indeed!!
I hate to say it but it's becoming clear to me that this is all about, good old fashioned jealousy!

jeffgoldblum · 13/12/2023 09:31

It doesn't matter what Harry and Meghan do or try to do, neither will ever have or be on the same level as William and Kate , it must be very irritating for them ! 🙄

Hughs · 13/12/2023 09:36

I guess the jealousy must come from Meghan, since Harry seemed to be very close to Kate, didn't he call her the sister he never had or something?

I wonder what Meghan is jealous of - maybe she thought Kate would love to be friends and be introduced to Hollywood A listers, and Kate just wasn't interested.

blindedbythelamp · 13/12/2023 09:51

I think Harry miss-sold Kate to Meghan; I think both Harry and Meghan were convinced that the Royal Family had been lacking a charismatic glamorous 'female lead' since Diana's death, and that Meghan would step into that role, while quiet shy family focused Kate would be delighted for Meghan to take over.
The reality turned out to be completely different, and they can't forgive Kate for being the one who ruined all their plans.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 13/12/2023 09:51

Catherine would have been pregnant (and famously ill with her pregnancies) or a new mum during most of their relationship. Even if she had the inclination, I very much doubt she would have had the energy for Hollywood A listers - not that MM knew any! It's so weird this narrative of forced sister hood - hug me, share your lip gloss, take me shopping, solve my mental health issues - coupled with (as yet un-verified, but not denied by MM) accusations of racism.

Same goes for Harry. Maybe the "she was like my sister" schtick is actually, William and Catherine were like my substitute mummy and daddy. They certainly seemed to have to take him everywhere with them, like a child that nobody wanted to babysit. Harry's words in Spare about how he felt left out when William got married and when he had other friends (at school and as an adult) are very telling. His blaming them for stuff like the Nazi uniform is also like a child blaming his parents for not teaching him any different. I do wonder how much handling and cosseting those two had to do over the years to keep This One happy.

So true
