I think Harry miss-sold Kate to Meghan; I think both Harry and Meghan were convinced that the Royal Family had been lacking a charismatic glamorous 'female lead' since Diana's death, and that Meghan would step into that role, while quiet shy family focused Kate would be delighted for Meghan to take over.

Oh my - you can see how things went wrong if there was any suggestion that Meghan could somehow make up for or help Kate with her deficiencies, or that Kate could be Meghan's less glamorous and charismatic sidekick 🤦‍♀️

Mumsnut · 13/12/2023 10:03

I think also the perception of the public may have changed somewhat after the turbulent and tragic Diana years. Maybe we appreciate a bit of steadiness with our charismatic glamour now?

Mumsnut · 13/12/2023 10:10

So actually, th e public was very happy with Kate as ‘female lead’

Hughs · 13/12/2023 10:32

I did think, when they were still here and made that comment about single-handedly modernising the monarchy, that it must have been very offensive to the rest of the family, especially the Queen.

I don't understand why Harry said in the Oprah interview said it was one conversation and he'd never name that 'person'. Not people. So this is why I don't even believe it has anything to do with Catherine. A complete change of story

The story has changed so many times now.

It went from one person to two people.
It was before they were engaged, then it was when Meghan was pregnant with Archie
It was about preventing Archie from having a title (even though that was determined by the letters patent), and he DOES now have a title.

It was racism, then it wasn't it was unconscious bias
Harry never accused anyone of Racism, it was the British press. Even though they were willing to accept an award for tackling racism.

I don't think there is any truth anymore. Certainly, Harry and Meghan have changed "their truth" so many times that they've now completely forgotten/misunderstood what happened in the first place.

Fact based world?
Trust in information?
Truth?

I keep seeing these words swirling round H&M. Like it is true/they are trying to convince us.

Nah.

IcedPurple · 13/12/2023 11:00

But Meghan is creating her own mini empire

How? None of her post royal endeavours, other than those involving slagging off her husband's family, have been a success, and it's not obvious how she plans to make a living in the future.

If she'd stayed in the royal family she would have had a secure luxury home either free or at subsidised rents, all her expenses covered, a generous allowance, whatever security deemed necessary and numerous other perks. She wouldn't have been 'Hollywood rich' but she would have been very comfortable and with no financial worries. And while she's never going to be poor in her current situation either, it's a lot less secure than the deal she had as a royal.

Hughs · 13/12/2023 11:05

I hope the RF joke presents this year are t-shirts referencing the various accusations made against them. So Kate has a Stepford wife one, Camilla's says dangerous, Sophie has one with Oprah's face on, Edward has "please wash your hands before touching" and William has "lock up your dog bowls" or something.

thebellagio · 13/12/2023 11:06

Its interesting that the Hollywood Reporter has listed the two of them as a loser of the year - that one must really sting for Meghan, as it's a publication read by her peers.

It also shows that perhaps the story that her agent may drop her as too hot to handle may have some truth in it - after all, if you're universally disliked, brands won't want to touch you. Other actors/producers would be wary of getting involved in any unwitting drama, and Harry's revelation about Courtney Cox certainly shows that they won't abide by anyone's right to privacy (yet woe betide anyone who invades their privacy).

I think they've backed themselves so firmly against a wall, I genuinely don't know how they'll get out of it.

Mike Tindell would absolutely be on the case with that - 100%!

Do I recall correctly that in the earlier part of the interview Meghan told Oprah that it was A person who had said something but she would not name the person because it would not be good for the person? Cue dewey eyes.

Then later, he corroborated her 'one person', as you say.

Can anyone remember the time when posters used to write, 'It was Anne' and 'It was Camilla' ?

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 13/12/2023 11:10

WME signed MM at a time when they made a statement that they had nothing further to say about the RF and were moving on. OS has shot that to shit (with or without their cooperation).

Quite possibly.

I had a bully at work who began spouting ridiculous stories and spurious and awful allegations in an attempt to discredit me and get me sacked. Years later, I do believe he’d repeated the allegations that much in his head - and to others - that he had convinced himself everything had happened/was true.

The only difference was that I bitterly complained and had to keep explaining that he out-mittyed Walter by a country mile.

Jealous people can be desperately vindictive. Hurt people can and do hurt people.

So do knobs. 🌱

You can see that in the speed with which Dior leapt to deny any deal. I'm sure they would love to have announced something by now, there was a lot of publicity when she got signed, but literally no work has transpired as a result, and I'm sure it's not for want of trying. All we have heard about is the Miss Havisham thing and the book adaptation, neither of which are actually green lit I don't think, and could be in development for years.

Agree, and she’d have still got to meet the a listers, even hang with them if she chose. They thought they could do much better out. And to be fair to them when they left and signed the deals, they were absolutely going to do better. But they fucked it.

if they’d actually went and did some real work first . Created great content, did proper charity work, work that was about the charity, got known for all that, then later, did a book, did interviews on the royals. And only then, they’d have got away with it, and even been respected for it.

but it’s 4 years later and all they are known for is throwing bricks at the royals for money. With some unsavoury rumours flying about invictus. Some uncertainty over archewell, ie why are 5 people employed based on the little they do. Are they using the donations to fund their expenses, is it a tax dodge, who are the donors. The exec from Spotify calling them grifters, issues with the fact she couldn’t even be arsed doing most of the interviews, rumours that Netflix is declining everything and wants out. Celebs, publications, programs panning them. Lies being told to the public,,,we are potentially signing with Dior, there was a high speed pap chase. Taking freebies from friends, always staying in someone’s house when away from home. Flying private jet often.

It’s all really unsavoury. With no actual real achievements to hang their hats on.

It’s two people totally out of their depth, but too arrogant to listen to those employed to advise them.

@upinaballoon Tom bower say it was Camilla who made a jokey comment about the baby having ginger hair and tanned skin, or something similar. But just a silly comment with no ill intent with Harry who she, presumably, thought she had a friendly relationship with.

I suspect that was very much Harry and Meghan's suggestion. Meghan needed to hit the ground running, as the Royal Family so desperately needed her to fill that role, and of course, she would need all the perks and privileges that Kate had, at the very minimum, in order to fulfill her obligations.
I think the idea that Meghan would take second place to Kate was completely unacceptable to them.

That makes sense, and could be the reason Charles was clear not to go after Camilla. He would not want her branded racist to the public, and the public may have been less forgiving.

it also makes sense they then lie and say it was Charles. Knowing Charles won’t want to legally challenge that, as he won’t want it coming out in court, it was Camilla.

IcedPurple · 13/12/2023 12:14

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 13/12/2023 09:22

I had wondered about that as a possible scenario.
Charles says something to Kate, she nods politely as you do when dinosaur old FIL says something a little bit out of line but not actually malicious, and is forever treated as if she was a full contributor to the conversation.
I suspect it’s relatively difficult to challenge senior royals on their language given the hierarchy and formality of palace culture.

Charles isn't a 'dinosaur' though. What you're saying might be believable about Philip, but not Charles. He has his faults, but for someone born in the 1940s, he has always had very progressive attitudes about race and multiculturalism. Wasn't he allegedly the one behind the elements of Harry and Meghan's wedding which honoured her black heritage, including inviting the preacher?

rosyglowcondition · 13/12/2023 12:18

@Cosywintertime And also a royal reporter recently said it was neither Charles or Kate, but he couldn't name the person. So I think Tom bower is correct.

Harry, Meghan and omid know Charles won't come out and say it wasn't me it was my wife, because they would sound even worse, so they are fairly certain they can say what they like. This was a clever move as it's head I win, tails you lose for Charles on this one. The trio have a real hatred of Kate and it was a great idea to throw this at her knowing Charles' priority is Camilla.

Frankly BP needs to issue a statement and say what was said by whom, and the context. I'm sure it was said as a question many families ask, but maybe wasn't wise for a woman with such a strong desire to take offence.

LaurieStrode · 13/12/2023 12:18

The diss by the Hollywood Reporter is a nuclear bomb to their lives in Los Angeles.

It's not a sleazy tab, it's a very venerable industry publication. Be extremely difficult for them to recover from the perception of being whiny do-little losers.

www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/hollywood-winners-losers-2023-1235712279/amp/

I wonder if this was gleefully flashed around among the senior royals.
