I can't help but wonder how much of an overlap there is between the grants given and awards received. Hence all the gossip about "paid for" awards.
As for expenses:
$113,000 legal costs - this is A LOT in one year for an entity which doesn't have any ongoing litigation. After initial set-up costs, it should just be costs of advising on employment contracts etc, and that doesn't amount to this much for a handful of employees.
$640,000 for salaries and benefits for employees - sounds like a lot, but when benefits include healthcare, not shocking.
$428,331 for “Programmatic Services” - who knows what this is!
$34,000 for Travel - not crazy, a few commercial flights in First Class
$57,000 for office expenses - laptops, phones, branded goods, furniture etc. Not crazy. Although if the offices are in the Montecito property, as I've seen suggested, it would be a way to offset and recoup some home expenses. Very normal in that world
$25,000 for events - buying a box at Taylor Swift or basketball games for you and your employees?
