As others have said on here, I still think that the ‘Oprah who?’ was said with a twinkle (and arched eyebrow) as a firm but friendly ‘nope - not doing that’.

To fling shite like ‘casual bigot’ about an attempt to deflect a nippy chat about something which undoubtedly was a burny potato?

Shameful. 🌱

The trouble with Omid, Meghan and Harry seems to be that they have zero sense of humour. Everything from the royal family has to be interpreted as a slight against Meghan. It's exhausting. What a way to live.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 12/12/2023 18:17

Camilla Tominey, who asked the question about Oprah, has confirmed Sophie was merely trying to deflect, not diss. She wasn't allowed to talk about it (never complain, never explain).

This goes back to narcissism. Narcissists have no sense of humour when it comes to themselves. They don't laugh at themselves at all. In fact, any kind of gentle ribbing meets with outrage. The narcissist is the most important person in their own life and shall not be made fun of!

spanieleyes · 12/12/2023 18:20

@Serenster
And thank you again!

So, roughly the same paid out to projects and activities as spent on expenses and costs.

Hopefully the balance will tip further towards project support as Archewell becomes more established.

Raincloudsonasunnyday · 12/12/2023 18:22

I can't help but wonder how much of an overlap there is between the grants given and awards received. Hence all the gossip about "paid for" awards.

As for expenses:

$113,000 legal costs - this is A LOT in one year for an entity which doesn't have any ongoing litigation. After initial set-up costs, it should just be costs of advising on employment contracts etc, and that doesn't amount to this much for a handful of employees.

$640,000 for salaries and benefits for employees - sounds like a lot, but when benefits include healthcare, not shocking.

$428,331 for “Programmatic Services” - who knows what this is!

$34,000 for Travel - not crazy, a few commercial flights in First Class

$57,000 for office expenses - laptops, phones, branded goods, furniture etc. Not crazy. Although if the offices are in the Montecito property, as I've seen suggested, it would be a way to offset and recoup some home expenses. Very normal in that world

$25,000 for events - buying a box at Taylor Swift or basketball games for you and your employees?

ArcaneWireless · 12/12/2023 18:25

Thank you @miri1985

I would read her (VG’s) memoir.

Although it still bothers me that the only one that has seen any punishment at all for that dreadful episode is a woman. I’ve no argument with the punishment - just that there must be a heap of men unpunished.

I suspect a lot of them were sweating.

Sorry @Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar I’m pivoting, I’m pivoting…. 🌱

I think you're right. What I've noticed is that Meghan has a strange sometimes slightly nasty sense of humour. Remember the awful skits with Melissa McCarthy, Ellen DeG where Harry was relegated to court jester etc. She freely mocked Harry and the Queen. The only person she truly respects is Markus Anderson I feel.

Raincloudsonasunnyday · 12/12/2023 18:33

I will just say: Donald Trump funds almost all of his current litigation through political donations. His reasoning is that his supporters want him to be president, so they are willing to pay for him to get out of his legal predicaments. One of his PACs is even funding his costs for the NY trial about the withdrawal of his license to do TRUMP family business in that state (nothing to do with his politics, just the business he had before/during/after his presidency and which I'm sure he wants to hand over to his sons).

I wouldn't put it past Harry to fund one or more of his legal cases in this way. There's a line he mustn't cross, but it's possible that he could get away with at least some costs being funded from the foundation. Not saying it is. Just saying it's possible.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 12/12/2023 18:47

@ArcaneWireless 😂You are safe for now! I agree with you about the lack of Epstein convictions amongst the men who were known to visit his houses and island.

Interestingly enough, Markus Anderson's boss at Soho House was a fairly notorious traveller with Epstein (allegedly).

@Raincloudsonasunnyday that's very interesting about Trump's legal fees and donations. I can see the logic in what he is arguing, and why his donors would support funds being used that way. Not so much with Harry and Archewell, although if media accountability is one of their stated aims, I guess that might tie in with some of his cases against media entities. However, I am sure their American donors will not be delighted to be funding him in UK based litigation, which is unlikely to have any far reaching impact beyond the actual parties to the cases, never mind outside the jurisdiction of England and Wales.

I wasn’t impressed with the smirking during the Canadian National Anthem either at least Harry knew how to behave with some respect and decorum.

rosyglowcondition · 12/12/2023 19:20

Does Scobie talk about Marcus Anderson at all? Suspicious if not. MA is a fixer for sure, and I believe he masterminded the relationship between Harry and Meghan as a way into getting some of the prestige linked to the RF. Epstein and maxwell targeted another dumb prince (Andrew) who also thought with his penis rather than his brain, and embroiled him in this massive and shameful scandal he is now paying for. The reason again was the royal link. I think there are some serious journalists trying to investigate Markus Anderson and his soho house empire and my guess is it won't be pretty. Allegedly.

Maireas · 12/12/2023 19:33

Just did a search there in Endgame for "anderson" and theres nothing about Marcus Anderson or Soho but it did flag up Anderson Cooper and its shocking to read how Harry described Camilla, its like hes describing Camilla from the tv show the Windsors, it comes off much worse when its written than when he said it IMHO

Good grief, if all this is directed at someone towards whom he allegedly bears no animosity, I dread to think how perceived adversaries are dealt with.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 12/12/2023 19:44

He seems to be a man of mystery, @rosyglowcondition . I don't even know if that's his real name. I saw someone theorising about him, Andrew and a certain location in Canada.

That is quite unpleasant, and it's all just hearsay and supposition.

Also: "as Harry's courtroom revelations have revealed" is just bad writing. I'd feel a bit embarrassed if I were the editor, let alone Scobie.

LaurieStrode · 12/12/2023 19:49

BackToWhereItAllBegan · 12/12/2023 17:23

@LaurieStrode I was just having a very similar thought. If they had waited even a couple of months longer then the pandemic would have hit and I think their lives would be very different.
They'd probably have retreated to Frogmore and with their very young family there would be very low expectations (particularly of Meghan) to take an active part in Royal duties for a few years. William and Kate were given plenty of freedom and space when first starting a family so I think it would have been widely accepted if H&M took the same path.
I think their lives would have calmed considerably over the pandemic and Meghan could have dipped in and out of Royal duties and had all the major appearances at Jubilees, Coronations, State dinners etc that would have cemented her Royal stardust.
Harry genuinely seems to love being involved with Invictus and Sentebele and I think he could have picked up a couple more major projects like that which would have fulfilled him.
Christmas / New Year 2019 was such a sliding doors moment for them, if they could have just been a little more patient then H&M and their children's futures would haven't been entirely different.

That's a really good point about the pandemic. If only they had waited. The whole Covid thing would have sheltered them, given them time to have the kids quietly and for MM to learn more about the role and history of the monarchy, and get to know the family.

They could have emerged from it with dignity, with a hell of a lot less waste of money, a secure place on the Windsor estate and better ties to the family. Instead they flounced and basically scorched earth their brand. I still can't get over the puerile, petulant stupidity of big chunks of "Spare."

rosyglowcondition · 12/12/2023 19:49

@miri1985 Dear god, what utter drivel! It looks like something a Victorian spinster would write. Vile and nasty.

So interesting though that Markus Anderson and soho house isn't mentioned because it figures so strongly in the M&H story, and still features heavily in their lives. Soho house is going from strength to strength too so I'm sure the royal connection has benefitted the business. Mmm radio silence from omid... interesting. Someone will spill the beans sooner or later.

Does anyone know if the elephant charity (Elephants without borders?) received their £3m pledge for the Disney voice over a few years ago?

ArcaneWireless · 12/12/2023 20:04

”she (Camilla) had a reputation, or image, to rehabilitate”

Not as much as you do now I’d wager H.

The word ‘reputation’ when used about a woman is a nasty poke of a slur.

But come here you tae me, sonny. I’ve a mirror that you might want to look into before you start flinging shite - ye wee nyaff. 🌱

rosyglowcondition · 12/12/2023 20:09

The book does seem to be particularly mysoginistic, apart from his heroine.

ArcaneWireless · 12/12/2023 20:13

That's a really good point about the pandemic. If only they had waited.

I think the same sometimes Laurie. But mostly I’m glad they did it when they did. I think they would have just had more content to peddle.

They showed their hand see?

It would have been awful if they’d relayed stories of the last months of PP and HMtQ. At least the RF were spared that.

It was bad enough as it was. 🌱
