Harry might have said it to impress her but he has no say in anything does he? Why would she believe him?

Because she didn't know any better. All she knew was that she was marrying the grandson of the Queen of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. And that prince, who she got to know in Canada, far away from the RF and all the people who's job it was to keep Harry in his box, clearly told her that as his future wife she could have whatever she wanted. Remember the hoo-ha over the tiara ("Whatever Meghan wants, Meghan gets!"). I mean, who could forget that? So jumped up and ludicrous, when he was speaking to the Queen's dresser, who ran everything by the Queen and was the gatekeeper of the Queen's things. But Harry actually came out with that shit, when he clearly knew that Meghan couldn't have whatever she wanted. But he wanted to impress her and for her to think that marrying him gave her the keys to the castles and all the jewels.

And when she met harry he was very popular with the British public. He was seen as attractive, lovable, highly eligible. When she got with him he was a complete catch. So yes, she would have believed him. Thought he was a big deal. And he was to be fair.

but she must have seen the resentment to his brother, long before they married, he tried very hard to deliver though on his promises, as he wanted that too, to be bigger than Kate and William, and believed he could make it happen.

but back then, what only 5 or 6 years ago, harry was the handsome, loveable, cheeky chappy, the military hero, who the public looked very on fondly.

today he is seen as spiteful, vindictive, selfish, arrogant, entitled, dishonest , and let’s face it, a bit thick.

Chouxpastryishard · 08/12/2023 14:47

The only trading currency Harry had was his place in the RF. what else did he really have to offer?

SkyFullofStars1975 · 08/12/2023 14:53

I think the public was given a very carefully curated version of Harry by the RF for years, and now we're seeing the entitled and petulant prat that he really is....

The video of William hugging the Mum who'd walked from Wales to London in her DD's memory almost made me cry - such a normal and simple gesture, he wasn't surrounded by visible protection and was so very low key. Don't get me wrong, I think William also has a degree of distain for the life he was born into, but as he's aged, I think he hides it well and has a really great ability to connect with people on their level like his Mum did.

"Unbeknownst to me at the time, early and uncleared text was provided to the Dutch publisher in order for them to start work on the translation, with the understanding that their translation would be updated to reflect the final version of the book I officially submitted."

I don't know how you can write an article accusing the British public of not wanting to confront racism in the royal family or historical links to slavery and also say that you were never going to name the people you were accusing of racism

Omid Scobie: Endgame backlash shows how unwilling we are to confront racism

The royal institution’s failure to protect its only family member of colour sends a clear message

I just can’t stand liars, especially liars who tried to throw and still throwing others under the bus. Unless I know the person well enough to trust, telling me someone is x,y or z without details is just going to make me think you dislike them. I left the bitching and rumour believing at school.

NovemberAutumn · 08/12/2023 15:06

So he lied then. And is trying to spin it as the public being unwilling to confront racism.

He's quite despicable.

I used to feel that Harry had an ability to connect with people too . He used to seem so natural and unaffected. These days he looks angry and scornful nearly all the time.

Omid in that article:

“I spent almost two months with independent British barristers and in-house legal counsel to ensure that every detail in the finished book was legally watertight. Unbeknownst to me at the time, early and uncleared text was provided to the Dutch publisher in order for them to start work on the translation, with the understanding that their translation would be updated to reflect the final version of the book I officially submitted

Omid last week:

“And I never produced a version that had the names.”

So, here we are again - that’s not true, is it, Omid? You did write a version that had the names, but that was the version that was produced to the legal team to be vetted. And in the course of that, the names were removed.

I’m also bemused that he is bemused by the attention this error garnered. His “independent barristers and in-house legal team” had already decided it was too risky to publish the names, so they were removed. Clearly the identities of the royal members that have been trailed for literally years now all around the world was going to be huge story. Especially given who were actually named.

Very clever. basically he’s admitted it was in the version provided initially and translated and then removed for the final version and that final edit didn’t happen in the Dutch case. It wasn’t updated to reflect the final version.

Which is what everyone thought.

He’s clearly sought legal advice, he’s saying the print error was not his fault, likely true, and admitting, without spelling it out, the names were in the early version provided to each market for translation, but that a final version was provided and it should have been updated to reflect that and wasn’t.

i suspect that’s the truth, he’s not of course addressed who gave him the names in the first place. As that’s not a legal issue.

the final version should have went to print. Someone was responsible for making sure it was the final version in each country, and not the initial version , as that version was not legally approved. I doubt it was his job to check.

legally I suspect he’s in the clear. If he can prove his agreement was the final version is what would go to print , then it’s likely rhe main publisher or the Dutch publisher who fucked it.

GreatCaribouMigration · 08/12/2023 15:17

It shows he really is a liar though. In his interview on This Morning he said that he had never written a version of the book with the names in it.

Now he is saying that he had wrote an earlier, uncleared version with the names in it.

So which statement is the truth?

He only admits to stuff when he is forced to admit to it because there is overwhelming evidence against him.

cauliflowerwaterfall · 08/12/2023 15:19

I admit I haven’t read 4 threads so please don’t be mad at me if I’m repeating 🤣

I think Omid Scobie predicted the wrong “Endgame”. It seems like he & the Sussexes have peaked now and are on the down slope. They don’t really have the shock factor anymore. I was horrified at the first version of the racism story but now we’re on the 4th or 5th iteration and it’s not even close to the original plotline so now I wonder if anything happened at all.

Vespanest · 08/12/2023 15:20

At least Omid has proven the point of never trust anyone who swears on somebody’s life

Maerchentante · 08/12/2023 15:20

With every new interview or article a new economy version of the truth will be told by OS.
If someone shows you who they are, believe them.

I think it was in one of the previous threads where someone floated the idea that the "accidental" publishing of the names in the Dutch version might not have been quite so accidental. It does make sense to me and wouldn't surprise me in the least. It was publicity for the book and, after all, there is no such thing as bad publicity.

Vespanest · 08/12/2023 15:31

It feels like Omid was waiting for the opportunity to do this when Harry was having a bad news day. Unfortunately he probably knew he didn’t have to wait long.

As Judge Judy used to say "If you are going to be a liar, you need a good memory"

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 08/12/2023 15:52

The issue for me is, which I’m not sure whether Harry, Meghan, Omid or Sussex fans appreciate, is that having been shown to lie about some things, makes people question whether you are telling the truth about other things you’ve said.

BethDuttonsTwin · 08/12/2023 15:56

They don't deserve all that they have because neither are remotely grateful for it. I doubt Harry could even make himself a cup of tea or pair his own socks because he's never had to.

To be fair, Harry is probably fairly practically minded and able to self care due to his time in the forces. That kind of helplessness would have been firmly stamped out within the first few weeks of basic training. No one gets special treatment.

Mylovelygreendress · 08/12/2023 16:17

But we still don’t know who supplied the names …..

Agree. It’s been a massive shock to everyone to find out what he’s really like.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 08/12/2023 16:45

This is galling for Harry and his team, if they choose to read what's said rather than what they want to believe

Unlikely I'd have thought, when the judgement made it clear he "didn't engage" even when the way this works was properly explained

Like the rest of them it couldn't be more obvious that he expects to get whatever he wants on a click of his fingers and will tell whatever lies he considers necessary to get it

Is it verified that they asked to visit Sandringhan for Christmas and were rebuffed?

Not officially, but it was Roya Nikkhah from The Times who broke the story - and she's usually pretty solid and reliable.
