I think the quality of writing plays into this, too. J. R. Moehringer was a great choice. I believe Scobie is very articulate in person and have heard he can write well, but the excerpts of have seen are not easy to read.

I actually found it hard to believe that the same person wrote Spare as the fabulous Agassi biography.

Vespanest · 07/12/2023 14:23

Spare appealed across the board from pro royal/ pro Sussex and those in the middle with curiosity. Endgame was a fanboy book and my views on Omid are not much better than my views on Lady C, pretty shit. The same with anyone who show full loyalty to either side, I left my fangirling when I finished puberty. I don’t understand how anyone cannot see fault on all sides and the need to defend everything, using relying on insults.

I feel very sorry for the children being raised by these two

What a revolting thing to say.

All this horrible talk about their children while posters here say how pleasant these threads are really betrays the intentions of the posters participating in what is now the 5th thread supposedly about a gossip book but clearly all they are, are threads trashing Meghan and Harry about the same things over and over. Funny that the reason given for not ever wanting to discuss Prince Andrew is everyone agrees so what's the point! well 5 threads on all agreeing Meghan and Harry are the worst people in the world without much pushback hasn't stopped the conversation! So thats not the reason Andrew doesn't have threads dedicated to him, is it.

If posters were to start discussing the Wales' children in similar ways, they would be piled on. Indeed Omid Scobie has been criticised a lot on this board for tweeting about Louie. So I suggest you all stop discussing Archie and Lili in this way, pretending to feel concerned when all you're doing is weaponising their own children in your vendetta against them. Its horrible, particularly on a parenting site.

Well said @Iwantcakeeveryday and I want to show my support and total agreement on what you have said.

Some of the stuff written on these endless threads is pure malice and nastiness and comes from a place of ignorance, misleading and made up negative theories.

I don't blame you jumping in with a post defending those two little children because to suggest they are not part of a loving caring family is really quite disgusting.
Luckily, there are plenty of us who feel the same as you. These threads are nothing to do with the Omid Scobie book, there's no news on that now. They are just a vehicle to come up with new insults and far reaching trashing of a couple of human beings. Oh.. and their poor children Hmm

is already popping. With Meghan already preparing a family breakfast in the kitchen, Prince Harry is busy getting the couple’s children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, ready for nursery school and toddler playgroup,

Wow!

All those mornings when I thought that we were just getting ready & we were "popping"!

And I thought we'd done well having these threads without a sugar rush.....

At least there was there is the attempt to counterbalance the sugar with a generous portion of word salad…

Now just to address how to count.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 07/12/2023 14:32

What’s your take on why Endgame is doing so poorly vs how Spare sold?

Maybe some of the potential buyers already bought Finding Freedom and are still recovering from the experience?

Personally I borrowed it instead (even I'm not that stupid ...) and looking at IcedPurple's extract from the new one it seems nothing's improved

AutumnCrow · 07/12/2023 14:36

' ... already popping. With Meghan already ...' [my underlining]

Any remotely competent writer would have picked themselves up on stuff like this early on, and an editor most certainly should have done.

It's writing like this that makes me wonder if the manuscript was ever seen by a professional editor.

IcedPurple · 07/12/2023 14:39

Mylovelygreendress · 07/12/2023 14:22

I actually found it hard to believe that the same person wrote Spare as the fabulous Agassi biography.

But Moehringer's job is to make it sound as though the book has been written by the subject. Harry is listed as the author, not Moehringer, so it's not a 'biography'.

The difference between the two books is that Agassi is a very clever and self aware person. Harry, not so much.

Vespanest · 07/12/2023 14:40

How can anyone not feel sorry for all the children involved. History is repeating itself again, the press intrusion that blighted Harry and William is now exactly the same for both sets of children, but now it’s not just the press but self disclosure. Kate’s children called the children of a racist, Harry’s children have titles from a racist family, whose both grandfathers are scum in their own ways. They have no say in how this impacts them. Books like Omid’s is not tabloids taking a punt and using “sources” to hide for gossip but using information directly from source.

I've just been ordered not to respond to a comment about this book on the thread that is all about media's relationship with Royals.

Did it come with the requisite complaint that it is DISGUSTING on this, a parenting site!!

It reads like a primary school writing exercise with the objective of demonstrating that you know what an adjective is and how to use it.

"As the morning sun rises over Santa Barbara, bathing the steep Santa Ynez Mountains, and the Pacific Ocean sparkles with California’s trademark glow, the sprawling Sussex compound in the wealthy enclave of Montecito is already popping. With Meghan already preparing a family breakfast in the kitchen, Prince Harry is busy getting the couple’s children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, ready for nursery school and toddler playgroup, respectively."

ArcaneWireless · 07/12/2023 14:46

Popping what?

BoreOfWhabylon · 07/12/2023 14:48

The style puts me in mind of The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole, aged 13 3/4

Except, of course, that was very clever satire.

Popping what?

Don't you always go popping around your 'wealthy enclave' of a morning, while watching the sea sparkle with its trademark glow?

I thought everyone did that?

Bubble wrap I expect. I can picture Harry spending a lot of time doing that.

It would make a change from the stuff he's usually popping.

I actually found it hard to believe that the same person wrote Spare as the fabulous Agassi biography.

I watched the author being interviewed, he basically had to replicate Harry’s words and the intent behind the words. He said a few times he really challenged harry as he didn’t wish to write what harry was saying, but ultimately had to go with it as it become very fraught. I can’t recall what it was, maybe Harry’s virginity thing, but they had quite a bad argument. To be honest, written by any one else it would likely have been a lot worse.

i mean this politely but I do not believe harry has a very high iq. And I’m not sure Megan does either. Apparently when they did the Netflix docu series, they had to keep fact checking against the book and changing it as so much was just different. They were saying one thing on the docu series and another totally different version of the same thing in the book, so they had to refilm parts due to the obvious discrepancies, as Netflix knew how bad it would look.

its like the story of the racist comment, both harry and Megan have a different version, but neither seem to remotely give a shit. Or the getting married the day before, or how he was told the queen mum died when he was at school when he was actually at cloisters with his father. Or the high speed pap chase that never was.

they literally don’t seem to give a crap and just say what they please at the time. It’s incredibly odd behaviour if you think about it.

The only thing that is likely to go popping is me down to the shops.

And the only trademark glow that could be attributed to me would be accompanied by calls of ‘burn it with fire’…

Extract from My Thoughts on Scotlland (written on the M6 at 120 mph (Sunday, 30 August --)

The hallowed mist rolls away leaving Scotland's majestic peaks revealed in all their majesty. A shape in the translucent sky reveals itself to be an eagle, that majestic bird of prey. Talons clawing, it lands on a loch, rippling the quiet majesty of the turbulent waters. The eagle pauses only to dip its majestic beak into the aqua before spreading its majestic wings and flying away to its magisterial nest high in the barren, arid, grassless hills.
The Highland cattle. Majestic horned beast of the glens lowers its brown eyed shaggy haired majestic head as it ruminates on the mysteries of Glencoe.

Ironic really, since their work with the Aspen Institute is all about stopping disinformation on social media.

And yet, ITV had to edit the Oprah interview when they showed it, because:

Lawyers for Associated Newspapers, owner of the Daily Mail and MailOnline, have written to Viacom CBS calling for a ‘seriously inaccurate and misleading’ montage of British newspapers to be removed from the Oprah interview programme.
The company has criticised the CBS show for ‘deliberate distortion and doctoring’ of newspaper headlines to support its claims about racist UK press coverage.
ITV later edited their version of the show when it was broadcast in the UK due to the misleading headlines.

Not to mention all the misleading footage shown in he Netflix doc.
