H&M seem to be trying to save face. It seems a shame that in the public eye they are underminding such a close friend. The narrative always seems to be rewritten into 'their truth'

This whole "issue" reminds me of the Queens funeral and of King Charles corronation.

The amount of hyperbolic headlines was crazy - almost all entirely wrong as it turned out.

Let's be honest here - they have had a slew of bad press and they need to try to negate that. By responding to something like a wedding invitation shows that to them things like that matter ( I am still important) but they cannot comment on the press talking about a private letter of Meghan's. It is a very mixed up way of thinking. "I want to say that I was invited to a wedding next Summer " but I won't be going but "I won't comment on the fact that my private correspondence has been splashed all over". We know why though, don't we. It's pitiful and despicable.

they have had a slew of bad press

That really depends on what you read.

UK papers are terrible.

Foreign ? Not so much.

My work involves US, France, Germany. They get more on the positive side in the media there.

I travel to France & Germany frequently and read their media - Harry and Meghan are every bit as unpopular there as they are in the UK. People seem to see them as a bit of an embarrassing joke. The coverage (and reader comments) are invariably negative. Meanwhile, Charles' visits to both countries were very well received and Kate and Will are very popular.

Some recent coverage.

I have access to French, German and Italian media and while they don't feature that often, when they do, it is usually with a negative slant. Even in the US they don't get featured much outside the tabloids, and then it's some stupid crazy headlines. People magazine seem to be the goto for positive media of them.

And yes, the public comments, when allowed, are usually overwhelmingly negative.

rosyglowcondition · 09/12/2023 20:10

This dreadful couple need to settle down in America, stop the silly competitive pap walks and get a bloody job. Stop pretending to be representing royalty in a county that rejected the monarchy in the 18th century. They are just so annoying.

Roussette · 09/12/2023 23:30

They aren't representing the monarchy!

No, but they are pretending that they do

OP posts:
Roussette · 10/12/2023 08:18

When or how have they said they represent the Monarchy?!

They haven't! Quite the opposite in fact

Harry can't help being son of the UK Monarch!

Serenster · 10/12/2023 08:23

He can help having his royal monogram displayed over his name when attending an ice hockey game in Canada, where is father is King though…

Petty squabbles aired
SidekickSylvia · 10/12/2023 08:27

'They haven't! Quite the opposite in fact'

Opposite of representing the monarchy? By using their titles?

ElevenSeven · 10/12/2023 08:32

Roussette · 09/12/2023 23:30

They aren't representing the monarchy!

They are always, always, representing themselves. Why have they hung on to their titles?

They’ve had a terrible year and are becoming irrelevant which is a punishment worse than death for them.

Waaaah.

parksandrecs · 10/12/2023 08:34

Things like the Remembrance Day photoshoot do tend to look like an attempt to recreate RF activities.

It could be a coincidence though.

cocolocopocos · 10/12/2023 08:37

Continually introducing themselves as the 'Duke and Duchess' at events in America, declaring their children 'Prince and Princess' despite their supposed rejection of the institution. writing letters on monogrammed letterheads, commissioning a monogrammed doormat, staging Remembrance Day photo shoots in military graveyards... the list is endless.

We have been through the Titles endlessly on here. It's got mega boring.

It sets a precedent to remove them and if that happened, it will mean in years to come the minute we go off a Royal, there will be public demand to do it again

As for the picture, who cares? Only a few posters on MN lol
Good for him. He's son of the King like it or not. As for doormats and monograms... great! They are who they are.

If they are becoming irrelevant, why is the media wall to wall H&M stories? It never stops. If that's irrelevant, I'd like to know what relevant looked like! Posters on here feed it and want it, so they can talk about!

I dont think people are necessarily thinking the titles should be removed, just suggesting that they don't have to use them when they introduce themselves etc. which is a separate argument.

What's mega boring? It's a bit strange to keep introducing themselves as 'Duke and Duchess' in America, if they keep doing that, people will keep finding it strange.

People tend to talk about them when something happens. This week, it's been Endgame and the court case. Oh, and Meghan's pap walk earlier in the week. It's not happening in a vacuum.

I find football mega-boring, so I don't go to football matches. Thousands of people enjoy football, so do go to matches.

Each to their own.

WinnieTheW0rm · 10/12/2023 08:54

Also missing the point that the choice isn't between using titles and choosing them for their DC and having them formally removed.

There is an option to stop using them.

H&M have already done this. Their DC's birthright titles at birth were Earl of Dumbarton or Lord Archie, and Lady Lili. They chose not to use them. They can choose not to use any of them now.

parksandrecs · 10/12/2023 09:00

And Edward and Sophie also chose not to use them for their children. Not because they have fallen out with the rest of the family (going by appearances, although perhaps they are amazingly good actors!) but simply because they don't see HRH as relevant for their children given they will never be working royals.

its odd isn't. posters saying they are irrelevant , yet here we are another thread to discuss/bash them. numbered threads about book they didn't write , but discussing/bashing them again. even on threads that have nothing to do with them........up a poster will pop to discuss/bash them again.
