It’s interesting the couple I refer to in my post are still close friends 8 years later and we’ve had numerous conversations about cultural differences as they’ve found some of them really challenging and unexpected. Their differences have been overcome but openness and understanding.

Conversations where you fear someone may unintentionally label you racist really prevents important conversations happening - like midwives being trained that identifying a black baby turning blue is different to how you’d identify the same in a white baby. Until recently, maternity training didn’t touch this and lessons implied all babies were the same with white being the default. Not talking about race and cultural differences is why black women and babies have significantly worse outcomes than white women and babies.

Anyway, I fear I’ve gone off topic. Do I think Charles and Catherine are racist? No, but I don’t know them so maybe they are. Not sure I’m willing to take my facts from Omid Scobie though.

Was the comment made before they were even married, or when Meghan was pregnant? They couldn't seem to align that part of the story during the Oprah interview.

FreshWinterMorning · 29/11/2023 23:41

You do like your LOL-ing emojis dontcha @Myfabby ? It's getting quite bizarre now. Nothing else to say clearly. Because you know it's true that Meghan is jealous of Kate.

Got to admire your insistence that Meghan is the boss though. Bless. 😆

Every single thing you post.

Go on, give me just one teeny, tiny example Grin

Starryskies1 · 29/11/2023 23:43

I wonder what the actual conversation was? I have a feeling it may have been they were simply interested in how their baby would look. Many families have the conversation over hair colour etc. I have a friend who was asked about skin colour of her child but never saw it as racist.

Livelovebehappy · 29/11/2023 23:43

Come on. Are people seriously believing a pair of discredited idiots who are in the business of making money off the Royal family with their Netflix and books? H and M are in the position of being able to tell us anything, with the knowledge that the RF won’t be doing any interviews or books. They really are an awful pair, who are bitter they were thrown thrown off the RF payroll. I honestly don’t believe anything they say.

LuluBlakey1 · 29/11/2023 23:44

stemmedroses · 29/11/2023 23:05

Why are people presuming the conversation was a general interest chat about who the baby might look like. Maybe Charles or Kate said they hoped the baby wasn't "too" black.
Why automatically jump to the defence of the Royal Family?

How about because Harry said it 'was definitely not racist' and the comment you have suggested would certainly be racist.

Pathetic aren't they (Harry and Meghan?) But also remarkably sad.

I would be embarrassed to admit I supported this cringeworthy couple. There is no reason to support them, and the fangirls have so little to say that they just keep posting LOL-ing emojis! It's hilarious, but also a bit tragic.

neilyoungismyhero · 29/11/2023 23:44

@flowerchild2000 I don't know that and I don't think they are. How do you know any different?
Context is everything - why is it racist to wonder about the baby's skin colour? As other posters have said you wonder if someone is going to have dark/blond/red/curly hair or Auntie May's big nose or the lovely chin dimple or the awful jug ears or the beauty of mum etc. I have a mixed race granddaughter and I wondered how light/dark/coffee coloured she would be...did I give a shit? No I didn't ..her mum is beautiful and I thought she would be too and she is...she's a beautiful coffee colour and is
awesome. She has the very best of both races in her. All this racist crap needs to stop from both sides. H and M are doing no one any favours least of all themselves and their children.

twilightermummy · 29/11/2023 23:45

@Josette77
Sweet Jesus. That is how far people can create their own batshit narrative.

My own theory is that Kate&William were jealous of H&M and did everything to shove them out of the limelight.

I hate how Kate is shoved down our throats and I dislike her a lot. Never struck me as a racist though.

Exactly. Their current ‘job’ is leeching off fabricating stories and interviews about the RF. How will they earn their money once they run out of material? Because both are so intellectually challenged that they’d struggle to hold down a job in Walmart…. Embarrassing for them….

Frances0911 · 29/11/2023 23:48

Surprised it's Kate, would never have thought that. If true, that explains the ott dislike H&M have exhibited towards her, which seemed harsh, but if true then I can kind of understand it.

DoubleTime · 29/11/2023 23:48

If KC did make inappropriate remarks about race/colour/appearance, then he was an odd choice for Meghan to make, to give her away at her wedding.

Everything they stand on is racist. Have you never read a history book?

Meghan is undoubtedly the jealous one.

Kate's son will be king and Meghan's will be like Princess Margaret's children- in total obscurity.

She picked the second best and the dumb oaf who can't do anything but victimise himself and print vile stories about his family.

Don’t be silly. Jealous? Meghan wasn’t liked by many from the off. She was a bully to the staff in the Royal household, and was called out on it by Kate. It was no secret in Royal circles how awful she was. And it all came back to bite her on the arse, so she ran back to America dragging her wet hubby behind her.

RogersOrganismicProcess · 29/11/2023 23:57

We’ll never know what was said, or how it was intended. We’ll never know if what was said, genuinely caused offence or if it was used to take offence against.

We have heard from many pps here that they innocently wondered about who their own Dcs would take after. The potluck of genetics is amazing, pregnancy is such a long and exciting time . Daydreaming about your new family member is completely understandable.

For what it is worth, mixed race family here and not one of my children looks like the other. One is mistaken for Middle Eastern, one is repeatedly asked if she is Spanish/Italian, the other has white Irish skin and freckles, with tight Afro Caribbean hair. They are all the most beautiful children, and beyond our imaginations. It was lovely guessing who they would be though.

Vespanest · 29/11/2023 23:58

King Charles and Prince Harry (proven racist) getting a much easier ride than Kate and Meghan. Same old same old.

Was the comment made before they were even married, or when Meghan was pregnant? They couldn't seem to align that part of the story during the Oprah interview.

Quite- Meghan said it was when she was pregnant, and that other things were said at the same time and the examples she gave were : 'So there were all these concerns - concern about how dark his skin would be and how he wouldn't have any security guards and how he wouldn't be given the titles'HRH' or 'Prince'.' She used the word 'concerns and concern'.

She then drew Harry into the conversation and he said 'Oh it was when we were first seeing each other' quite dismissively.

She showed there that she has no understanding of how the system works. Only the children of a monarch or grandchildren of the son of a monarch are given the HRH title and Prince or Princess. At that time, Harry was not the son or a monarch so Archie was not entitled to either. Only children of the heir to the throne now have security- Archie was not that either and will never be. If it was felt he was at risk, Scotland Yard would have the power to allocate security. Andrew paid for security his daughters after it was withdrawn some years ago. Meghan seemed to understand none of this and saw it as a sleight linked to the fact that she is mixed-race- it was no such thing. Whatever race Harry's wife was, a child would not have had security, been called HRH or titled Prince/Princess at that point. Harry seems not to have made that clear to her and allowed her to continue to take it as an insult. Perhaps neither understood, or perhaps they chose to be offended.

Ger1atricMillennial · 30/11/2023 00:07

Examples that could have been used to show racism (i.e. the assumed conscious and sub-conscious superiority of one ethnicity above another) in the Royal Family.

  • Princess Mike wearing a badge a "Blackmoore" broach on it when she met M.

  • Prince Phil saying to British students that they might become "slitty eyed" if they stayed in China (and many many others)

  • Prince Philip declaring that an old fusebox was put in by an "Indian" when visiting Scotland.

  • Prince Phillip confirming that a woman he met in Kenya was in fact a woman.

Private, unconfirmed and possibly out of context comments about the colour of a (as of yet) non-existent child as an example of racism is a stonking stretch.

I guess none of the above examples are recent and can put under "different generations carpet so maybe they wanted to spin the narrative that it was alive and well.

And hey we are all talking about it again.....
