Archie and Lily are the same as princess Margaret’s children they don’t have police security .

Kimmeridge · 30/11/2023 00:08

As pp said speculating about a baby isn't racist. My cousins wife is black & when she fell pregnant we all speculated about the baby. He is the most gorgeous child & is a stunning mixed race little boy. Any conversation was similar to that when any other baby is imminent. Who will it look like which parent will it favour. Nothing racist about it

I think this will have destroyed any prospect of a reconciliation. I imagine William will totally wash his hands of Harry now Catherine has been so publicly slated in the book. I cant imagine Charles will be feeling particularly warm towards Harry either.

It must be so hurtful for Catherine hearing what's been said about her knowing how close she & Harry once were

I cant see any going back from this now

I do not believe that the comments made were racist - of course I was not there and unless the whole context and conversation were released no-one would know. I think in a way the fact that the identification of the alleged incidents is a good thing was it will mean it can't be hung over the royal family as a threat that this or that might be released. Sadly in my view this is likely to mean that Harry is unlikely given the present situation to be able to make peace with his family - I think that it is sad that the relationship is so fractured. In my view the royal family should not comment or address this latest book and the allegation.

SandyWaves · 30/11/2023 00:19

I can believe Charles would say this, I find him very arrogant. Just look at his behaviour since becoming King...snapping at people, very short tempered and Camilla calming him down.

I don't think Kate would be that stupid, even if it crossed her mind. I think she's too smart for that. I am not saying she said those words. But Meghan was certainly jealous of her. This is clear.

Harry and Meghan wanted to bring the RF down. They failed and now realise they are a laughing stock.

Examples that could have been used to show racism (i.e. the assumed conscious and sub-conscious superiority of one ethnicity above another) in the Royal Family.

  • Princess Mike wearing a badge a "Blackmoore" broach on it when she met M.

  • Prince Phil saying to British students that they might become "slitty eyed" if they stayed in China (and many many others)

  • Prince Philip declaring that an old fusebox was put in by an "Indian" when visiting Scotland.

  • Prince Phillip confirming that a woman he met in Kenya was in fact a woman.

Private, unconfirmed and possibly out of context comments about the colour of a (as of yet) non-existent child as an example of racism is a stonking stretch.

I guess none of the above examples are recent and can put under "different generations carpet so maybe they wanted to spin the narrative that it was alive and well.

And hey we are all talking about it again.....

And Harry, of all people (although given his own record of making racist remarks) perhaps unsurprisingly, was quick to say neither The Queen or Duke of Edinburgh had made any of the remarks.

Smokeyrobinson · 30/11/2023 00:24

Our family had the same conversation both when our daughter was due and then, 30 years later, when our grandchildren were due. Would never consider it racist.

NewtonPulsifer · 30/11/2023 00:25

Maybe we need a new version of Royal It’s A Knock Out, except this time proper fisticuffs in a boxing ring. Sell tickets, money for charity. Kate and Meghan can do the hair pulling and scratching and Harry and Will can have a proper sibling scrap.
Charles can preside over it like a Roman Emperor. Camilla can be in charge of the bar.
Place bets now!

Yes, being snippy (under pressure, on the day you are being pronounced King, 4 days after the death of your mother) makes you a racist.

Edited

Exactly... so that's what makes me think that it is a personal or a willful misunderstanding to fit a storyline that will grab headlines so they can be seen as "survivors" rather than "failures".

I am all for calling out institutional bad behavior ... but I think this is a bit thin, which is so surprising given there is plenty of it about (eh hem Prince Andy)

I wish we had context for the actual discussion that happened.

My cousin has mixed race children. It was a running thing in the family (on all sides) as to what the children would look like when they were born and who's skin tone and features they would inherit. They were first grandkids for the dads family, who are not Caucasian. There was absolutely nothing racist about these chats or comments.

This.

I am sure that that is how it was discussed. I have mixed race children, and before they were born we had exactly that sort of conversation about them. It was purely out of wondering who they would take after, if either of us. As it happens our first born took after Daddy and the second one me, mummy, which we hadn't been expecting. We found it fascinating that with the same input of DNA both times, the result could be so different!

The senior Royals in the Royal Family have grown up almost from birth mixing with people froom all over the world, I don't see how anyone who has lived like them could possibly be racist. But maybe I am just naive? Prince Philip was the only one who has ever said anything in public that could be construed as racist, and I bet the Queen had some strong words with him on those occasions 2 occassions.

caringcarer · 29/11/2023 22:14

I don't believe either King Charles or Princess Catherine are racists. I think Meghan hated Princess Catherine so much she'd say anything to get her discredited if she could.

You can smell Meghan's spite.across the Atlantic. And her stupidity. After Oprah's fake outrage Camilla was rumoured to be the guilty party. Now it's Charles and Catherine. Obid Scobie is having a go at the King because he will not let them have their own way.
Meghan never misses a taunt for Kate as she likes to be Queen Bee and can't be. Her envy of Kate is monumental.Wait another 3-4 years and when,as now, there is no more scandal because no one will talk to either the Sussexes or Scobie, another Royal Racist will be appointed.

Anele22 · 30/11/2023 00:36

A lot of people commenting have identified themselves as black or mixed race

Anele22 · 30/11/2023 00:42

Common sense tells us that no one said that

Mrmojorising71 · 30/11/2023 00:43

Did they not contradict each other in that interview?

TempestTost · 30/11/2023 00:43

Dillane · 29/11/2023 22:21

My family too, it’s said with excitement.

Back a few years ago on a tv panel, Trevor Phillips said that the fact that Meghan thought that family commenting about this showed she didn't have much cultural experience of "being black". (This wasn't a criticism by him, it's something she apparently had said herself.) Because pretty much every black family he knew talked about what kind of complexion an expected baby would be.

I am sure that is not 100% the case, but I tend to think that in the general sense, he's right. It's a completely normal thing to speculate on. People always wonder what babies will look like.

Lookingatthesunset · 30/11/2023 00:43

For god's sake Harry, make up your fucking mind!!! One minute it's racist the next it's not.

I don't think the racist Harry understands the term!!!

MissTrip82 · 30/11/2023 00:44

Amazing how many people are suddenly ‘fascinated by genetics’ when it comes to speculating about a child’s skin colour.

It’s a purely science-based conversation. Of course.

I must be the only person who didn’t have multiple antenatal conversations speculating on my child’s appearance and who wouldn’t dream of raising a child’s hypothetical skin colour as a topic of conversation.

SplendidUtterly · 30/11/2023 00:52

None of thos even matters! It will all blow over and be forgotten soon enough.
Just like how our late queen wanted camilla to be known as "queen consort" not "queen" when charlie became king but that part has been forgotten very quickly (google it 😂)

Just because non caucasians go on about skin tone doesn’t make it non racist. I believe you when you say your family members are not like that but want to remind people that it has been well publicized that people of colour can be colourist too.

it could be offensive to people to discuss skin colour of their baby.

Andi thought it had already come out ages ago that it was Prince Charles and Camilla had lightly reprimanded him as a result.

You can tell the people who have no argument and no valid points on this thread. They keep posting PMSL emojis. And naff-all else.

How bizarre.

Perhaps they are too busy ptsl to be arsed.

I have never heard anyone have this conversation. Apart from me. And I quite rightly got a rollicking for it and apologized. I would never do it again. I wasn’t aware of how much upset it would cause.

When one of my oldest and dearest friends was expecting her mixed-race baby, another friend said to the two of us over dinner, "I hope the baby has that lovely coffee coloured skin".

None of us considered that racist!

If it's true, I'm not surprised things will never be repaired or that they've not been able to bury the hatchet. It is insanely obvious that KC and PC will never see how wrong they are.

Context is NOT everything. You don't comment on someone else's child's skintone at all. It isn't anyone else's place. Any time I've been in that position, the diplomatic response is "I'm sure they will be perfect regardless." They are royals, surely they know that?!

The main thing I read here is - IF it’s true!

I honestly thought Meghan was going to breathe some fresh air into the RF. Instead, she has tried her very best to destroy them. Why? Maybe this is the only way that H & M can make the money they need, to fund their lifestyle? They wanted privacy and didn’t want to be in the spotlight, but have done (and are still doing) everything they can to stay there!

I actually used to feel sorry for Meghan, stuck with the pot head Harry, who is quite simply an embarrassment. Was Harry so desperate to marry her quickly, in case she actually found out what he was really like

I think Meghan hates Catherine, because she wants to be Catherine, married to the older brother. The brother, who will one day inherit the throne, with Catherine as his Queen. Meanwhile H & M will become less relevant, as Harry and his children slowly move down the line of succession, like Princess Anne did. She was once the 2nd child of the monarch and 3rd in line to the throne, now she is 17th in line.

OneFrenchEgg · 29/11/2023 22:44

I thought in the Oprah interview Harry said these conversations happened before she was pregnant? Which does put a different spin on it.

I don't know if it does in an important way.

It wouldn't be curiosity about an individual child, but I suspect they were pretty sure there would be kids. And probably in short order given their ages.

But also - unlike most families, they all know they are in the public eye, and that people would talk about, and have opinions about, the racial aspect of MM marrying in. It would be crazy to think they wouldn't talk about that, and what people might think of the kids, whether they would end up just blending in or be obviously non-white. I mean - the public were certainly talking about it, and most people approved, they weren't racists.
