So who are the 2 royals who commented on Archie's skin now that Piers Morgan has named them on live tv

I bet some people do not help their cause by insulting and spreading hate. They are the real ignorants.

She is talking about her own situation which is similar but not exactly the same. She is allowed to do that, surely?

Really? It reads like an AIBU from Meghan’s perspective as it starts with a quote mark.

If it’s PP’s own experience then my reply is irrelevant obviously… context matters.

@Andarna people of colour is an Americanism. In the UK black and brown is the more accepted term.

MyopicBunny · 30/11/2023 10:29

You can't reverse it like that. No white person ever didn't get a job because they're white.

In the world of affirmative action that is not true.

As far back as the 90s I sat on interview panels where we were instructed to appoint a black candidate. Whether or not it was tokenism, there were superior white candidates who missed out.

OneFrenchEgg · 30/11/2023 10:43

Are people really that interested in what colour their friends kids will be? I can't say I've ever wondered or asked or excitedly discussed! Same for : hair , noses, eyes - am I missing something? I get parents doing it.

I'm neither in the UK or USA. Does the internet have a current correct term?

A few posters have wondered why Meghan could possibly be jealous of POW. They seem to be very different people with very different interests, but POW does seem to have an amazingly close and supportive family. Meghan, and now Harry, for whatever reasons lack this. Meghan has her Mum, but even that relationship seems to have been dysfunctional at times. By all accounts it was her Dad who was her primary carer for much of her teenage years.
However rich and famous you are I think having that rock solid base of parents, siblings, cousins, aunts and uncles is a wonderful thing. I know many on Mumsnet also lack these connections, but if you have them they should be cherished.
My own siblings are a mixed bunch, but we love each other. If my back was against the wall they would be there for me and my children. Thank goodness they wouldn't air grievances in public because every family has them now and again.

Roussette · 30/11/2023 10:44

MyopicBunny · 30/11/2023 10:37

Oh come on, just say it, just being white is racist.

Most white people are, or will have been racist. Including me. It's what happens when you can't possibly understand any other position.

So I listen to what people of colour have to say and I try to do better.

Nothing changes whilst white people get defensive about accepting uncomfortable truths.

This.

I agree. I've got it wrong before and worked out how and why I've got it wrong. And learned from it.
But all this screeching on here 'it's not racist' and 'I'm not racist' whilst posting the most ridiculous things is awful.

SerafinasGoose · 30/11/2023 10:44

This thread is a complete shit show. No wonder books are being written with titles like 'Why I'm no longer talking to white people about race'.

The Meghan Markle affair has not shown this country up in at all a good light. As for the Windsors - not excluding Harry - was there ever any question that racism runs through that family like 'Brighton' through a stick of rock?

I can imagine that families would be interested, as well as close friends.

drowninginjelly · 30/11/2023 10:45

@Sayitaintso33 well that was a weird panel you were on. Positive discrimination is not about hiring minority come what may. It is about once you get down to the Final Cut where everyone is qualified then choose the minority. It's never been about choosing a lesser candidate.

CornishGem1975 · 30/11/2023 10:45

@mantyzer Seriously. You've never heard someone one wonder about eye colour?

Ticklemeharder · 30/11/2023 10:45

I just find it really difficult to believe that KC is racist. Most racist people I have come across say racist things and have racist opinions out of ignorance. Charles has spent his life visiting different countries, experiencing different cultures and speaking to all kinds of people from other races. I’d like to think he is actually very progressive for a 75 year old (way more than people I know of that age) and I just can’t see him making a comment in an intentionally racist way. Unintentionally - maybe.

In an ideal world...

Once again it gives Piers Morgan and papers like the Daily Mail the opportunity to blame Harry and Meghan .I have just watched Omid Scobie the journalist being interviewed on Good Morning and I was really impressed by his answers! He is right the British press only disclose what they want to and I think they often do hide the truth to curry favour with the royals. I don’t know if they are racist but agree if we pay for them they must be above approach and the debate needs to be held.

But that's the point, isn't it. Racism is still racism, whether it is intentional or not.

The very overt, intentional racist shite is deeply offensive, but in some ways, it's easier to identify and easier to tackle.

The casual, subtle, unintentional racism is in some ways far more damaging, as it's harder for people to identify, easier to dismiss or deny and far more difficult to tackle.

Hbh17 · 30/11/2023 10:53

I do wonder whether Meghan's "concerns" where because some members of the RF in the early days commented along the lines of "are you sure you're ready to cope with the press, and others, who might go on about the colour of any baby's skin"? More as a way of trying to warn/protect a mixed race couple who maybe are a bit naive about potential reactions. Obviously, press coverage is the issue for the royals, but I have heard similar concerns in real life, and it came from a place of love and wanting everyone to be OK. The non-white partner in question did not perceive it to be racist.

Emotionalsupportviper · 30/11/2023 10:54

Choux · 30/11/2023 10:40

*I think that Meghan just couldn't accept that she wasn't the "star" of the family - and also that greeting people and making them feel comfortable was part of her "job" as a working royal. Meghan thought, I think, that she would command superstar celebrity status in the UK, in the same way she'd wanted to get in the US but never managed.

She was massively popular when she married Harry, but she was never more popular than William and Catherine and didn't like it.*

Looking objectively at the four of them, Meghan, in my view, is the most polished followed by William then Catherine and finally Harry. Meghan is the best most natural public speaker, she also has great sense of style and is beautiful.

If the Royal family was a traditional PR or marketing company , she would have been groomed to be the next CEO. Kate does not have the same speaking skills for a global stage and yet she is the one who will become queen. Perhaps Meghan thought she was entering a meritocracy and her talents would be fully utilised, but the monarchy definitely isn't a meritocracy. Her role was to slowly fade into the background of the royal family, as Kate rose to become queen and understandably she didn't like it.

I think if she had understood more about the royal family before marrying, she would have bailed like Cressida and Chelsey before her. And then merched her almost royal status back in Hollywood.

Meghan is the best most natural public speaker, she also has great sense of style and is beautiful

Meghan is the most confident public speaker, but not the best. Her speeches invariably centre on herself and she recycles the same worn out anecdotes over and over again.

She is very beautiful - fully made-uo and doing the "red carpet" glide, she looks visually stunning, but I disagree about her "great sense of style". Her clothes never seem to fit her, and she doesn't seem to own an iron (or employ a member of staff who knows how to use an iron). What style she has seems to be a poor shadow of Diana's a lot of the time.

mantyzer · 30/11/2023 10:18

I thought they all curtsied in private.
When Meghan and Harry first spoke about that lots of people on MN said everyone knows that happens.

To the monarch yes. HRH’s generally don’t curtsey to each other (you can see that at events where they greet each other showing it’s the first time they’ve seen each other that day but aren’t all curtsying left right and centre). Exceptions were the younger royals curtsying to Charles at formal events when he was pow.

You don’t see Sophie curtsying to Kate or even Camilla when she was DOC. So no chance Meghan was expected to curtsy to Kate.

People don't. The claims on here that everyone does this are just an attempt to excuse racism.
Parents do it yes.

No, from her own mouth in interviews. You must know that, surely.

I agree. He was part of the BBC2 programme 'Princes and the Press' . He came across far far better than any other royal reporter or interviewee. And on This Morning he equips himself really well.

He's brave saying what he does, because he will be hated alongside H&M. As some of the threads on MN show. His appearance is slated in the most disgusting way, everything he says is picked to pieces, his character is annihilated.

I am just glad we can hear an alternative viewpoint.

Watch the interview.

Oh, you can bet she innocently wondered aloud what Archie would look like and the Migraine has completely twisted it all to be about "race". My own children are mixed race, people wondered all the time what they'd look like when born, there was just human curiosity.

Roussette · 30/11/2023 11:04

And yes, she is an extraordinarily terrible dresser, considering how many tens of thousand of dollars she spend on terrible clothing

Thank goodness most people feel totally different to that. She is a beautiful woman who can look fabulous. Not all outfits are a hit, same with members of the RF. To run her down like this is pathetic.
