If Meghan is narcissistic, Kate is super narcissistic. After all, it's Kate who wants to be curtsied to - even when invited to her brother in law's house in an informal capacity.

It's also the same Kate who was happy to let Meghan be thrown under the bus when the flower girl story was aired.

As for comments on the baby's skin colour. If the comment is made by people who you know love and support you, the comment is received within the same context.
However, if it's made by people who seem to only tolerate you - at best - and at worst, who have given off vibes that you are not the best choice for their son and brother, then the comment is going to be taken the same way.

Just because William said the family is not racist doesn't mean it isn't. William himself is quoted to have said, in his University days when probed about his girlfriend (before it was widely known who she was), "...it's not like she is black." To reassure people that his choice was not "controversial" or "out of the ordinary". If true, it shows someone who thinks black people are inferior or beneath him. Which coincidentally is the definition of racism.

Of course, people grow and change their views. And William might have different views now - at least publicly. But it's not a stretch to think that in private, members of the royal family say things that may sound a bit off - if they were reported in a newspaper.

😬
Is there truth to this?

Kate insisting on curtesys in private?????
Oh please.

I feel polite benign interest in the royal family, with a very fond respect for the late Queen, but the whole curtesy circus does not compute at all.

I wouldn't entertain that for a second.
Completely ridiculous IMO.

William saying "it's not like she's black"????

Bloody hell.

I should add that I think the washing of all of this laundry in public, the interviews etc., is absolutely dreadful.

So tacky and vulgar. Cringing for the whole lot of them.

Thanks for saving me a Google.

Not sure how big a deal that is. Context is everything. If it was the only comment that's very different to saying ' I wonder if he'll have red hair like H or dark hair like M? I wonder if he'll be pasty like H or darker skinned like M?' Or were the exact words published?

Exactly. We don't know the context or exactly what was said!

No there is no truth to that. Kate doesn’t insist on curtesy’s in private (but apparently doesn’t like hugs).

It was Harry not William who said that.

My best friend is Chinese heritage - her husband is Irish ( red hair fair skin). They have 4 children - each time she was pregnant she has openly discussed which parent her baby will resemble ( ie black/fair hair olive/fair skin). Their children are a beautiful blend of both. Am I racist for wondering with her whether her baby will have blue or dark brown eyes? I don’t believe I am - it is just a conversation point. I love all her kids dearly.

Why would a Chinese heritage and white Irish couple discuss having a black baby?

mantyzer · 30/11/2023 10:18

I thought they all curtsied in private.
When Meghan and Harry first spoke about that lots of people on MN said everyone knows that happens.

🤣🤣 Wrong brother, that was said by the brother who wore the Nazi uniform and called his army colleague a P and R* 🤦‍♀️

@Mamafromthebeach do you also speculate what colour eyes a baby will have for your couple friends who are white?

Not who you're replying to, but I'm always interested in what eye colour a baby might have, particularly when the parents have different eye colours.

To the queen sure. Meghan said that she was surprised that she would have to curtesy to her boyfriends grandmother.

Not terribly clear.

However, I apparently have to repeat the point that a mother wondering about her own child is very different from two relatives in a white institution, whom you are not close, to speculating in your absence.

OhMyStarryEyedSuprises · 30/11/2023 10:24

My DS is mixed race though the mix is Chinese/white. Everyone speculated on how he would look when I was PG, both sides. My family is very short as Asian, some women relatives are 4ft 11, I reached the heady heights of 5ft 4, DH family is much taller than average, DS is 6ft 5, my family comment on this all the time.

It felt great that Meghan was marrying in but her behaviour and his as well is an embarrassment.

Apparently you’ve forgotten the context of the thread: how black is the royal baby going to be.

LeopardPJS · 30/11/2023 10:25

@FlowerBarrow Meghan did use the word "concerns" actually, on Oprah. She also said it was a "safe assumption" that there were concerns he would be too brown. She also said she believed that revealing who had the conversations would be "very damaging to them".

Here is the full transcript:

Oprah: You certainly must have had some conversations with Harry about it and have your own suspicions as to why they didn’t want to make Archie a prince. What are . . . what are those thoughts? Why do you think that is? Do you think it’s because of his race?

Meghan: (Sighs)

Oprah: And I know that’s a loaded question, but . . .

Meghan: But I can give you an honest answer. In those months when I was pregnant, all around this same time . . . so we have in tandem the conversation of ‘He won’t be given security, he’s not going to be given a title’ and also concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born.

Oprah: What?

Meghan: And . . .

Oprah: Who . . . who is having that conversation with you? What?

Meghan: So . . .

Oprah: There is a conversation . . . hold on. Hold up. Hold up. Stop right now.

Meghan: There were . . . there were several conversations about it.

Oprah: There’s a conversation with you . . ?

Meghan: With Harry.

Oprah: About how dark your baby is going to be?

Meghan: Potentially, and what that would mean or look like.

Oprah: Whoo. And you’re not going to tell me who had the conversation?

Meghan: I think that would be very damaging to them.

Oprah: OK. So, how . . . how does one have that meeting?

There were conversations ...about no security, no title... and how dark his skin might be when he’s born.

Meghan: That was relayed to me from Harry. Those were conversations that family had with him. And I think . . .

Oprah: Whoa.

Meghan: It was really hard to be able to see those as compartmentalised conversations.

Oprah: Because they were concerned that if he were too brown, that that would be a problem? Are you saying that?

Meghan: I wasn’t able to follow up with why, but that — if that’s the assumption you’re making, I think that feels like a pretty safe one, which was really hard to understand, right?

It blows my mind that there are still people willing to stick up for Harry when he has, off the top of my head:

  • Used racist slurs
  • Dismissed his woc wife's experience of racism
  • Defended Lady Hussey's racism
  • Made fun of a disabled person
  • Dressed up as a Nazi for fun
  • Outed his first shag
  • Got naked with another woman while in a relationship
  • Forced Archbishop of Canterbury to deny he conducted an illegal wedding
  • Forced flight instructor to deny account of flight training
  • Lied about where he was when QM died
  • Not looked after his wife when she was struggling
  • Wound up the Taliban and put troops at risk with kill count / chess pieces claim
  • Complained that his bedroom in the castle in his grandmother's 50000 acre estate wasn't big enough
  • Abused drugs including while his wife was in labour
  • Slagged off his family in public
  • Criticised freedom of speech
  • Done a megabucks deal with company currently dramatising his mother's mental illness and death for entertainment

Who cares, I know so many black and Asian people who despise white people and I know so many whites that can't stand black and Asian people. It's Swings and roundabouts. There is racism in every single race in the world you will never change it.

MyopicBunny · 30/11/2023 10:29

I’d be very surprised if a young woman like Catherine would be openly (or covertly) racist.

Most white people are racist.

Pomonas · 30/11/2023 10:29

The problem is that calling people racist is overused for gaslighting purposes and agendas these days. Even this thread has already been called full of racists. Kate and King Charles will not be affected.

People really need to ask themselves why they would pay attention to that guy OS. I am pretty sure I do not hang out with anybody that would buy that creep books.

You can't reverse it like that. No white person ever didn't get a job because they're white.

Mamafromthebeach · 30/11/2023 10:30

Oohh ok - I wasn’t clear - yes I speculated on hair colour!! But yes with loads of pregnant friends of all background I have excitedly wondered whether their babies would look more like Mum or Dad!! And yes many of my friends are from different racial backgrounds so it is a conversation piece usually initiated by a parent - to - be!

In any case context is key I suppose.

MyopicBunny · 30/11/2023 10:31

Claiming reverse racism is yet another form of racism.
