Camilla was married to the then PoW. Would that not have made her the Princess of Wales?

(I have no idea how these titles work.)

No, Camilla was Duchess of Cornwall, she chose that instead of PoW.

What annoys me the most out of this is, if the RF didn't want anyone of colour in their family, then why did they welcome her with open arms? They would have known that children would probably follow too. They would have objected before the wedding.

Was I the only person who remembers King Charles waiting for Meghan at the top of the church, and walking her down the aisle, in the absence of her own shit show lot? ONE of her family members was there. The rest of them were too busy slagging each other off publicly, and going NC with each other. Charles, a future King, didn't have to do this very caring act. No one expected it.
Charles isn't a horrible racist. He has made a comment that they themselves would have made about their own baby, and they threw a king, who has a platform to change things an d do a lot of good in the world, including for people of colour, and threw him under a bus, out of jealously and spite.

I hope this is the last we hear of H&M. I don't have a problem with MM. I have a problem more with Harry. Where is he going to go when his marriage ends, and it will at some point. He has thrown his birth family under a bus, and they won't want to know him after Charles has gone.

technically yes on marriage, but she rejected it, and opted for the Duchess of Cornwall, she was not the princess of wales and didn’t use the title, for obvious reasons, the optics, so there is no way she’d have been referred to as such in a private letter.

Thank you.

I see what you mean re: optics. TBH I rarely thought of her at all until all of this blew up, so it hadn't stuck me about the "Duchess of Cornwall" title, but thinking back, you're right. That's how she was referred to.

Your explanation is much appreciated.

You’re not alone.

White people wonder why minorities don’t always want to ‘integrate’ with white people. This thread is why.

Yep. And I speak as a white woman. There was a post a few pages back saying it would be crazy not to talk about what skin colour the baby would have and whether they would 'blend in or be obviously non white'. I mean.... WTAF...

I worry for my DD and the mixed race children she will be having (fingers x'd)

And you don’t think ‘Kate’ is very clear as just ‘Kate’? How many other Kates do you know in the Royal family?

And why do you assume Meghan’s surname would still be Markle? Her husband and children’s surname is Mountbatten-Windsor, she would likely use that.

Edited

Meghan uses Markle as her surname whenever her DoS title isn’t used, most recently I saw it used on TV with her monogram - she has never used Mountbatten-Windsor though. Why is it ‘likely’, not all married women change their name.

Kate dropped Middleton at marriage. As is her right and choice.

ScremeEggs · 30/11/2023 08:36

Where is he going to go when his marriage ends, and it will at some point
How on earth can you know that?!
Know them personally do you?
Speculation and possibly who knows a bit of your own projection going on there.

Freakinfraser · 30/11/2023 08:37

Thing is I think the resounding feedback is this is just dismaying, more of the same old shit. Just cowardly done through a mouth piece. I really don’t think there is a way back now for harry and Megan, it really is the “endgame” for them.

thr fact it wasn’t meant to go to print is Irrelevant. Only a fool would believe that when this was written Megan wasn’t briefing scobie and fully intended this to be printed. It was Megan as it is her version of the story not Harry’s. The intent was fully there.

Harry grasps fully the severity of portraying the royals as racist due to the commonwealth and the diversity of the British people. That there is no way back from that.

the fact their stories differ, and it is likely Harry’s version is the truth, not Megan’s, would give rise to a lot of significant legal problems. Which is another reason for it to be redacted. It’s highly likely the Dutch went to print with something which is a twist of the truth, hence why the royal family are considering legal action. I doubt they will though, as once again, the majority of the people are not falling on harry and Megan’s side.

@Livingtothefull I think there are a few of us who are gobsmacked by the misogyny and racism on display. I only joined the thread this morning and I’m not going back however many pages, but even the little I’ve read you think “wow, which century and society are you in?”

You’re not alone. Imagine being this full of hate, I’d feel sorry for them but I feel sorry for the BAME people who have to deal with them even more.

Where have you seen that Meghan uses Markle? Just because a TV show calls her that doesn’t mean she calls herself that.

So it’s Kate right to drop Middleton but not Meghan’s right to drop Markle?

ScremeEggs · 30/11/2023 08:39

There is an awful lot of "my best friend is black- I understand racism!" on here.

Well whats wrong with that? (Better than "I am a racist"..........)

Because having a black friend doesn't automatically mean you can't possibly be racist.

I think also folks have to remember the narrative changed. On the Oprah interview Meghan said it happened when she was pregnant. Harry then joins and said it happened right at the start of the relationship and directly contradicts her. The book then gives Megan’s version.

It was said to harry, not Megan, she confirmed this, so it would indicate Harry’s version is the truth, it was said at the beginning of the relationship. and as he states not with racist intent. It was Megan who said it was a safe assumption that archies skin tone may be a problem.

so the two of them disagreed, they gave different versions, but only one of them was there, harry, and his version was it was said light heartedly with no racist intent at the start of their relationship.

which also tells me, it is Megan who was briefing scobie, not harry. As it is her version that made the book.

I haven’t followed this closely so maybe I am confused, but if Harry has said that there wasn’t racist intention (he would know about unfortunate gaffes), why not just say what happened? It’s not as though Charles hasn’t suffered worse revelations (financial and personal) or the Sussexes have concealed the break down of their relationship with his family till now.

To be honest, I can't bear to be on here reading some of the posts... not a pleasant place to be, not sure I'll be saying much... 🙄😮

CurlewKate · 30/11/2023 08:42

@Blueroses99 "Kate dropped Middleton at marriage. As is her right and choice."

I would be amazed if she was offered the choice, to be honest!

TheFairyCaravan · 30/11/2023 08:43

My nieces and nephews are mixed race and , going by this thread, my family must be really weird because we never, ever discussed their potential skin tone. It just wasn’t necessary. It didn’t make the slightest bit of difference to any of us how light or dark they were going to be so it wasn’t a conversation that needed to be had.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 30/11/2023 08:43

I think the vague references to racism are unfair. If comments were made, we need to know exactly what was said, by whom and in what context - the actual words that were uttered and details of the wider conversation - and not just a paraphrased interpretation.

Without those details, I'm not willing to rule out the idea that Charles/Kate made racist comments, but equally, I'm not willing to draw the conclusion that they did make them. We just don't know.

Now that the names are in the public domain, I think the only fair solution for everyone is to get the detail of what was said out in the open. Of course, that's if they can actually agree on what was actually said.

Sayitaintso33 · 30/11/2023 08:43

Any Royal found to be racist must do the decent thing and abdicate/surrender their titles. And if they don't they must be removed from their position.

NetZeroZealot · 30/11/2023 08:43

Choux · 29/11/2023 22:11

Thanks for saving me a Google.

Not sure how big a deal that is. Context is everything. If it was the only comment that's very different to saying ' I wonder if he'll have red hair like H or dark hair like M? I wonder if he'll be pasty like H or darker skinned like M?' Or were the exact words published?

This ^

kiki50 · 30/11/2023 08:43

criticism of Meghan can originate from something other than racism you know.
I can't stand Prince Andrew, but nobody would say that's motivated by racism.

kiki50 · 30/11/2023 08:44

and most of
us have more of an issue with H than M.

TrailingFig · 30/11/2023 08:45

It’s does depend whether it was ‘a concern’ or just a general discussion about what a child would look like. One discussion is racist and the other not.

We will never know which it was

and they won't be deemed racist based on third hand tattle from that well known truth tellerHmm Meghan.

Exactly. I hope it will be the same for my DD if and when she has her babies who will be mixed race. Not in a million years would I dream of talking on those lines. It's just irrelevant.

I never talked about this sort of thing either. I was just grateful to be pregnant.

There is no MM thread on MN that does not bring out the racism & misogyny ime.
