Well it's certainly generated lots of publicity for his book

However, a pretty risky strategy, because we may then end up with 3 names!

Yes! The translator has spoken exclusively to the DM and said the names WERE in the version she was sent. Good for her!

From the start I thought it was pathetic that H and M then OS said that ‘someone said something mean about me but I’m not going to tell you what they said of who said it but it was really mean’…. Pathetic.

And now it’s even more pathetic- does he think people are stupid?- to imply that professional translaters conjure up entire paragraphs and people not based on the source material. He’s no professional. I hope he gets sued.

Well yes. A tactic I last saw employed at secondary school with my bully repeatedly told me she had heard I was “slagging her off” behind her back but couldn’t actually clarify who had heard it and and what had actually been said. I got dragged around by my hair anyway 🤷🏼‍♀️

With school in mind I was just thinking how horrible it will be for PC to have to do the school run - which she apparently does every day that she’s not on an engagement, knowing that she’s been publicly labelled a bona fide racist.

The Telegraph is reporting that the Palace have not ruled out taking legal action. Obviously that doesn’t mean they will
actually do so 🤷‍♀️

Here’s an outlandish theory…

maybe M&H realised they had passed too much info to scobie and he was essentially holding it over them (prob likely).

what if during the warm phone calls, Harry admitted to his father, we want to make peace but this journalists is going to keep publishing more damaging information but we can’t stop him doing so because we gave it to him…

so the Palace decides the best way is to take away scobies ammunition - by going publicly with the smoking gun. But no one is going to admit to being the racist royal. So instead they somehow pay the publishing house to make the amends naming a royal, blaming a translation issue.

That way, scobie will leave h&M alone and he no longer has anything he can use against them, freeing up the way for a reconcilliation.

plus the whole thing seems so unlikely that the alleged people named have plausible deniability (everyone seems to have come out in support of them), and scobie alone is left to take the fall - the palace won’t sue, but they’ll know that he has been punished because he’s essentially lost his entire career.

I know it’s an insane theory, but it’s no more insane than anything else that’s come out!

The pictures of William and Catherine arriving at the Albert Hall just now are interesting. He's holding her hand to help her out of the car and then keeps his hand on her back and arm, which he never normally does. Makes me think the slurs about her being nothing more a smiling show pony have hit home and William is feeing v. protective of her. She looks utterly stunning as well.

I feel so sorry for her. She looks hunted and haunted. She's got 20 years experience translating for top authors and this shitstorm is none of her doing.

Yes, the Daily Mail’s “exclusive” looks remarkably like they doorstepped her. Which is why I think it’s rich of Omid to be complaining about his parents drawing attention - he’s thrown the translators openly under the bus without a second thought. They are (were) private individuals too….

Does Omid Scobie even understand what the word 'translation' means?

And why does he talk about 'writing and editing' his book? ('I wrote and edited the English version of the book with one publisher'.) You don't edit your own book when you are publishing with a big publishing house like Harper Collins. A professional editor edits it. Then they hand it back to you for re-writes. The author gives updated versions new file names, so you know where you are, until you get to 'Final Version'.

The translators will be able to demonstrate who sent them (presumably digitally) the 'manuscript', and what the file was called; and it wouldn't be too difficult to find out when it was last edited and by whom. There's always a digital trail.

Scobie then says, 'I can only talk about the English version of the book that I wrote and produced'. Now that's even more intriguing. Produced. The only time I've used that work to describe a publication is one I've been involved in as part of a collaboration - as one of the editors.

So it's possible that this was in some way, at least at the start, a collaborative work that Scobie put together, and by being forced to talk about he's making these telling slip-ups.

He is tripping himself up and looking ridiculous. This morning interviewer said to Scobie you said Kate was a Stepford wife. He said no I didn't. I said she was Stepford wife like. You couldn't make it up.

I have no idea ! Never heard of him. It was simply a gif that comes up here when you search for lying.

Unsure how accurate it is, but I saw someone from the crowd had tweeted William paused and waited for Catherine due to someone shouting some abuse. Definitely a protective gesture.
