Well, I suppose the alternative is that further along the editing process, someone rewrote it to add it in. But I still believe it was a mistake, because it's apparently not him and that's why they are panicking.

I'm not on Twitter anymore so I thought I'd ask here, is anyone at all writing positive reviews about the book? It seems that the person most harmed by this book is going to be Scobie. Opinions about the royal family are not going to be changed by this, if the book is accurately reflected in the reviews I have read, if anything I think it's provoking sympathy for Catherine and Camilla.

I don't think it's going to change many people's minds about Harry and Meghan either; I do have some sympathy for them as I think the delayed publication has probably mucked up their reconciliation plan, at least in the short term. I'm not sure whether they directly gave him information but with everything they've said in the past unless they release a strong statement in support of the family I don't think anyone will believe they haven't had anything to do with it.

But Scobie, am the only one who reads his tweets about this and the quotes from the book and hears Taylor Swift's song 'Mean' going through their head?

I've just seen Rick Evers has shared an extract on Twitter from the review copy he was sent that highlights the alleged second person. Having seen it, I am confident this is going to backfire on MM and PH so, so badly. I can't believe I'm actually agreeing with Sarah Vine, but they really do need to come out, very urgently, to distance themselves from him.

Except they can't, because he's got too much on them.

Have read the alleged Dutch passage on Tattle that names both people - the writing is shocking! The digs about it reading like it got put through ChatGPT aren’t wrong! My dyslexic 10 year old writes better sentences than that!

Given Scobie has been shown time and again that he is such an easily proven liar, I don’t imagine it will take much to uncover the trail back H&M.

I don’t think the Royal family will do anything publicly, in court etc but I do think they will ask someone to do the above investigating, and once satisfied that they know for sure that H&M have done this, they will severe all ties permanently. Potentially title removals depending on how much evidence they manage to uncover and how solid they feel that is.

Bit like the exiled Duke of Windsor when it all came out that he was a Nazi sympathiser. The truth will out eventually. Then they are out of road with no way back.

But aim off a bit - even though I can find what purports to be an English translation of the Dutch version naming a person, I haven't found who the second person is. So I might not be that good at finding tweets!

"took part in such conversations" is so carefully worded. Throws suspicion but doesn't specify that those people actually said anything negative.

'Mistranslation' my eye. A translator translates what they see/hear, they don't make sentences and names up and add them in to someone's work.

I think it could be a punctuation error having read the translation but it's hard to know without understanding the Dutch version. In the context of the paragraph it makes sense for the name to be mentioned and a full stop rather than a colon puts an entirely different spin on things.

Be interesting to know if H&M received an advance copy.

I thought that seemed plausible, but the second except which names BOTH people is not like that. It’s a different paragraph (either before or after the initial one that got leaked) and there are no stray colons, commas, colons or any other punctuation that could account for the mistake or change the meaning in such a way if it were mis-typed.
