Omid Scobie's new book

boxedandribboned · 04/11/2023 20:38

Heads up, Omid is back on the PR trail...

https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/royals/harry-meghan-author-omid-scobie-31362434

BTW, can anyone explain why he's Harper's Royal reporter when he only seems to have access to or report on Harry and Meghan? It's a bit strange.

Harry and Meghan's biographer calls King Charles 'unpopular' in scathing jibe

Omid Scobie's new 'explosive' book Endgame will be published on November 28 - and its description on Amazon says the author investigates the current state of the British monarchy

But ‘king of England’ is the reality

Ive seen various figures between 30% and 50 % support in Scotland .
Wales gets overlooked though I’ve seen figures around 50%
Northern Ireland - come on that colonial legacy is already gone bar the shouting .

He is king of white women 65+ living in the south east of England . That’s where his comfortable majority support is

Mylovelygreendress · 22/11/2023 13:24

I do wish people would stop referring to Charles as the King of England. It is extremely disrespectful to those of us who live in other parts of the U.K. ( also other places where he is King.) .
There is a big wide world beyond the English border !!

Serenster · 22/11/2023 13:25

As I’m sure you’re aware, Novella4, current opinion polls don’t matter a jot to King Charles’ constitutional title and role. He gained them the moment his mother died, and the accession formalities on 10 September 2022 made them quite clear, including by the devolved Scottish parliament.

AliceOlive · 22/11/2023 13:34

I don’t care for the denigration of women over 65. Among them are some of the kindest and wisest people I know, regardless of skin color.

And as you can see, I apologised profusely and immediately corrected myself. But maybe you are referring to other posters not me.

Novella4 · 22/11/2023 13:40

Yes @Serenster and the constitutional fact is that it is accurate to say Charles Windsor is King of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland but it is misleading to state that he enjoys the same support in each country .
He does not

And the main issue is one of age .
The younger generations see through the nonsense and want reform

Mylovelygreendress · 22/11/2023 13:41

I saw and appreciated your apology @Roussette .
Unfortunately it is a fairly common occurance- not just on MM - and it is extremely annoying and disrespectful .
When QE died I was one of thousands who stood at the roadside to watch HM’s hearse passing .
No idea where @Novella4 found her stats but they certainly don’t reflect the circles I move in .
Don’t believe all the nonsense put out by the SNP/ Green Government here !

Novella4 · 22/11/2023 13:43

I wouldn’t think for a moment that you move in anything other than royalist circles @Mylovelygreendress

Look it up for yourself .

Mylovelygreendress · 22/11/2023 13:44

Another sweeping statement from @Novella4 . My teenage granddaughter and her friends are very interested in the RF especially Catherine and William . Even my super-cool teenage grandson watched the Coronation with me !

Roussette · 22/11/2023 13:52

Gosh my DCs aren't. Not in the slightest. It's almost like the RF doesn't exist for them. They never mention them, never bring them up... on coronation day it wasn't talked about, and they never said anything about the Queen's death. And we talk a lot about all sorts of stuff. And as far as I know, all their friends are the same... they are all in their thirties. And my DCs are very active as far as volunteering and being involved in campaigning about social injustice, they are politically minded, they would go on a March and sometimes take along their old mother lol

I do have to add, I haven't influenced their views, they're too strong minded to take any notice of me!

Novella4 · 22/11/2023 13:57

Your anecdotes are lovely @Mylovelygreendress but not at all significant in terms of demographic trends

And btw, which other countries are you referring to? Do you mean the Caribbean nations busy ditching Charles ?
Ot Canada where they want him
off the money ?
Or Australia who are due another referendum ?

Its embarrassing

Serenster · 22/11/2023 14:01

Or Kenya, which is a Republic, but where Charles was getting a 70% approval rating in the country’s young population (median age: just over 20) in his recent State visit there?

Maybe you have some data to back up your assertions, Novella4?

Novella4 · 22/11/2023 14:14

I’d suggest Chalres approval ratings are as they are because Kenya is a republic !
Have they asked to return to a monarchy?

No

Serenster · 22/11/2023 14:17

Have they asked to return to a monarchy?

Is that really all you can come up with?

Agree.

BadgerB · 22/11/2023 14:33

I seem to remember, as Charles walked down the Champs Elysee recently, a shout from the crowd, "Vive le Roi!".

First time that's been heard in Paris for a very long time....

Novella4 · 22/11/2023 14:34

It is relevant .
It’s easy to be popular when you aren’t imposing yourself as a head of state .
It was remarked on at the time that he hadn’t gone to any of the nations who wish to free themselves .

Such a pity . I guess they saw the glorious admonishment of K and W ,
Edward and Sophie and didn’t fancy a repeat ..

Novella4 · 22/11/2023 14:35

@BethDuttonsTwin
There was no denigration
It is just a statistical fact .
Interesting that you view being described as a royalist as denigrating though …

Were they admonished? Gloriously?? I must have missed that.

I don’t 😊

Thats you.

Novella4 · 22/11/2023 14:39

Oh yes . I’m surprised you didn’t see the speech

It was the perfect ending to a tone deaf in sensitive tour

Calls for reparations ringing in their ears as they were packed off

BadgerB · 22/11/2023 14:42

It was remarked on at the time that he hadn’t gone to any of the nations who wish to free themselves .

If there are nations who "wish to free themselves", why don't they just do it? They are perfectly entitled to. Or at least start the ball rolling?

Novella4 · 22/11/2023 14:42

@BethDuttonsTwin
Lets be clear as you seem a little confused

I said the ‘royals ‘ are only popular ( ie with a majority in favour ) in the 65 + demographic. Further detail being he’s more popular with women than men and white people .
You described this a ‘denigrating older women ‘

Novella4 · 22/11/2023 14:45

@BadgerB

They are ?…..

At least 6 have started the ball rolling

There is plenty of news coverage of it

LadyMuckingabout · 22/11/2023 14:46

No, Novella, you said he was the king of only white, 65+ south of England women or whatever. You seem to think that the monarchy should be some kind of popularity contest. And, although I would say most young people are not interested in it, that is a kind of “whatever” lack of interest, rather than fervent republicanism. There is a real problem today with sweeping generalisations based on loud social media voices.
