According to the daily mail, Charles put Jimmy Saville on a long list of names of potential godfathers for Harry.

Let's not delude ourselves. The royal family are moral degenerates.

I recall many years ago, there was a kind of gotcha/joke going around where somebody would say "I know of a family who..." and would then go on to detail all of their failings, shortcomings and where their lives had really not worked out at all.

The clear intention was that you were meant to be horrified to hear this and then hold up your hands and ask just which sink estate this terrible family lived on - the 'gotcha' being that it was actually the Windsors, at which you were meant to laugh it off and excuse it, because that family was obviously beyond reproach or criticism and we couldn't possibly judge them.

Yep, rich or poor, posh or common, any family can make bad decisions and go through some very sticky situations as a consequence - and that particular family has had the power, wealth, wherewithal and desire to make a great many shockingly bad and irresponsible life decisions that many of us common oiks wouldn't dream of. But they're our betters and our role models, aren't they; so any problems must be with us and certainly not with them...

If this article was true, then obviously I am glad the name was vetoed at some level.
Personally, I doubt it, as the RF generally have lots of aristocratic friends, who fulfill those roles.

that’s a big if@milveycrohn but if it’s in the DM it has to be true 😜

Since Charles is notoriously incapable of doing anything for himself, what probably happened was that a lackey was asked to pull together a long list and included everyone Charles was known to be friends with.

I don't think he's incapable per se - just so privileged and entitled that normal human everyday activities will always be somebody else's job.

Reminds me of the rumour (I don't know if it was verified or not) that Alan Sugar had his assistant write his Christmas cards - fine if it's to his long list of business contacts - but he also had them include his card to his wife in there, so she ended up receiving her Christmas card "from Alan Sugar".

You know what? Slag Charles off all you like. But I think deliberately trying to link him to Savile is very low.

He is linked to Savile though. Indisputable.

Yes, absolutely.

Even if you believe that neither Charles nor his army of advisors/protectors ever had a clue about what Savile was up to - even though half of the BBC knew - there is no denying that they were very close friends for a considerable number of years.
