According to the daily mail, Charles put Jimmy Saville on a long list of names of potential godfathers for Harry.

I’m an Aussie and when I first moved to the UK I just couldn’t believe Jimmy Savile, I found him unbelievably sinister and creepy and I couldn’t understand why people didn’t seem to see it. He made my skin crawl.

I felt the same way, I think a lot of people did! He was unutterably grim.
I watched the Netflix series in disbelief - how on earth did he become so popular?? Mystifying.

@Serenster

Re your church full of the ‘great and good’ Yeah that’s what happens when the ‘royals’ admire someone like Saville- Saville had the stamp of ‘approval’ for those influenced by such nonsense .

Thats why what Charles did was so wrong . you will
nondoubt claim Charles was fooled by Saville .
But perhaps you could also explain why Charles personally defended and protected even housed Peter Ball after his activities were known

And we also have Mountbatten and Van der post - Charles ‘mentors’

Saville fits into a larger picture - I include Andrew and Epstein in this - which I’d like to hear a royalist address properly

Roussette · 10/10/2023 09:40

I think it was because of what was said in one of the episodes of the NF series (I've only watched 2)

He felt that doing all these charitable works, raising all this money, cancelled out the bad bits of his character. Bizarre I know

Vile manipulator man. I think it was a mass liking of him... and he was so clever at doing 'good works' that anyone that spoke out was shushed.

Roussette · 10/10/2023 09:43

@littleripper My heart goes out to you. You know this, and I agree that the BBCs role in it is appalling. It must be extremely difficult for you to know they are making money from this, whilst acting awfully whilst it was going on. Flowers

CathyorClaire · 10/10/2023 10:20

I also think Charles felt he was projecting a cool 'down with the kids' vibe by being seen with a man whose name was synonymous with children's and youth entertainment.

Re Charles 'not being aware' of rumours surrounding Savile - article here confirming civil servants advising the honours committee were wary of him as early as 1984 following public interviews in which he boasted of sleeping with hundreds of girls among other unsavoury revelations.

The honours committee went on to receive allegations of sexual assault by Savile in 1998 yet apparently no-one around Charles thought to tell him.

Well look at Charles’s support of Ball.Ball had accepted a caution - admitting guilt - and Charles was STILL using his position to protect Ball . Writing letters to Ball too - telling him he’d see off these ‘beastly people ‘
A subsequent investigation asked about this and Chalres people explained that Charles didn’t understand the term ‘caution’...
Nothing to see here . Case closed

Not a chance on religion alone

Roussette · 10/10/2023 11:12

It never ceases to amaze me that the RF continually bleat 'didnt know' when anything unsavoury happens

Why not?

They are party to the best aides, Comms ppl, police, security people. Bottom line they don't WANT to know.
Andrew said in his car crash interview, he didn't know about Epstein's first offence of sexual assault. Do not believe it.

The security forces scrutinise everyone the RF mix with bet you.
I think they all ignore advice continually

Charles gave Ball a duchy house AFTER it all became public!

JanglingJack · 10/10/2023 11:19

SaVILE OP - at least spell it's name correctly.

I assume you are talking of the late Earl Spencer and Queen Elizabeth I ?

I couldn't watch it. I started last night but found it to disturbing and almost voyeuristic at so many children's expense.

I'm guessing a lot is based on the Louis Theroux interviews with the book writer.

I'm a child of the 70s my brother and I both wrote in to Jim'll Fix It. No words.

Woah. How did I not know about this?!

MissElinorDashwood · 10/10/2023 11:48

@Roussette you’re right. It makes zero sense. It sounds like they’re too arrogant to listen to good advice.

MissElinorDashwood · 10/10/2023 11:50

I can’t watch the documentary either, for similar reasons.

Its not surprising that you don’t know.
There is a lot even the most energetic investigators still don’t know.

It’s just so odd, isn’t it? As a child and teen I always thought of him as really creepy. My sisters were the same. They always changed the channel when he came on TV. They couldn’t stand him.

It seems amazing that so many ordinary people - including a great number of children - could instantly tell from just seeing him on TV that he was seriously sinister and creepy...

...But the mature adults in charge of the country, who knew and met him in person - often spending a lot of time in private with him (he spent 11 Christmas Days with the Thatchers at their home) - somehow had no idea whatsoever that there might just be something awry about him...

Begsthequestion · 10/10/2023 12:14

Savile was their favourite paedophile, so it makes horrible sense.

Charles was talking marriage advice from him ffs.

Truly disgusting people.

Novella4 · 10/10/2023 12:20

I am sorry to hear of the horrific experiences of the poster above .

A survivor of abuse in a children’s home has named Mountbatten as an abuser and that boys from the home were transported to him.
I have heard no more about the court case , just that it is planned .
Survivors who speak out need so much courage . They are to be applauded .

Daisyislazy · 10/10/2023 12:26

Well it seems they found it perfectly acceptable that Andrew befriended Jeffrey Epstein

They make money from it whilst denying any voice to the survivors. They profit and we are listed as vexatious and blocked. I have never sworn, been aggressive or offensive. All I have done is state the facts again and again and when they have lied and denied it repeated the truth. We are inconvenient. They want their lies to be the truth and this drama will go a way towards that. The victims had no value to the BBC and still don't.

If anything more was needed to convince me of the deep deep flaws within the BBC your story is all. They want their lies to be the truth, They have so very much to answer for and not just in relation to Savile.

CesareBorgia · 10/10/2023 12:51

I grew up with Savile regularly on the TV - TOTP, Jim'll Fix It. I will be honest and say he didn't strike me as creepy or give off any of the vibes many retrospectively say they felt. Old and boring, yes - predatory, no.

I suspect many who were not themselves victims, or personally acquainted with victims, are being wise after the event.

What is your view on the victims the BBC have allowed to speak out during this programme? Are you thinking, why them, why not me?

It just makes me sick that the BBC pulled the Newsnight programme about the abuse straight after his death and instead did sycophantic tributes and Jim'll Fix it repeats. God know what you must feel about that.
