Buckingham Palace denies claims Charles ‘might offer Harry a royal home’ in UK

This story is curious. There are versions in the Telegraph, Daily Mail and Times as well. With Buckingham Palace emphatically denying it - Harry seems the likely source. Is he trying to force the RF to give him a permanent home in the UK?

Ordinarily, it would seem a reasonable enough thing to expect, but of course, things are no longer 'normal'. After Harry's disloyalty to both the family and the institution, it is a bit cheeky to expect to be given free home on royal property?

Buckingham Palace denies claims Charles ‘might offer Harry a royal home’ in UK

Harry and Meghan vacated Frogmore Cottage, at the king’s request, in June this year

Also, the 'counselor of state' excuse seems a bit flimsy. I doubt anyone seriously expects Harry to ever be consulted in that capacity.

If it’s true I am completely on Charles’s side. I’m not estranged from my family but no way would I want them just showing up without warning. Not even if I had 1,000 bedrooms.

callingeveryone · 25/09/2023 16:01

This is just a made-up story to re-ignite the Harry versus Charles camps. The media have nothing real to get everyone arguing over so have made this up.

boxedandribboned · 25/09/2023 16:24

Given the journalists involved in the original story (at the Telegraph and Times) I doubt it's made up. I suspect it's Harry's way of getting his demand for a free royal pad in the UK onto the public agenda. He probably imagines that he's riding high on his Invictus success & everyone will be feeling sympathetic towards him, making it the ideal time to start throwing his weight around again.

It's not as if the family are short of a few bedrooms. Plus, if he bunks up with them his security will be sorted too.
Seems a reasonable solution.

MissElinorDashwood · 25/09/2023 19:14

If I were you, I would research into this story thoroughly, from all sources, including its origins, before posting. It’s not at all as you are presenting it. There’s more to it.

I’ll post my observations later.

PinkTonic · 25/09/2023 19:21

‘The Sussexes moved into Frogmore Cottage, a two-bedroom home on the grounds of Kensington Palace, in 2019.
In June, Sir Michael Stevens, Keeper of the Privy Purse, confirmed Harry and Meghan vacated the cottage, shipping the remainder of their belongings to their home in the US.
They resigned as senior members of the royal family in March 2020, relocating to Montecito, California, with their two children, Archie, four, and Lilibet, two.’

This is inaccurate and therefore the whole thing lacks credibility.

LimeCheesecake · 25/09/2023 19:22

I’m surprised they couldn’t find a small apartment somewhere to offer to them, that way when harry invariably turns it down for not being big enough or good enough for his family, he looks like the grabby one.

LimeCheesecake · 25/09/2023 19:25

Didn’t Harry and Meghan pay rent on frogmore in advance but were thrown out of it before the rent term was up? And had to be paid back the rent they’d already paid? Remember thinking at the time this was a terrible move by Charles.

MissElinorDashwood · 25/09/2023 19:33

Honestly, at this point, our tabloids should be mocked and not believed. They’re ridiculous. They can’t keep up with their own lies. So many versions of this story including from the same journalists! They are always looking for clickbait stories without verification.

It’s a choice to believe their lies and the agenda of those who have a known conflict of interest.

This is actually a good case study for media literacy.

No. They didn’t pay rent in advance. The lease ended in May and was not renewed.

Failing to provide a safe place to stay for Prince Archie and Princess Lili should they visit the UK...

This story isn't going to go down well... for King Charles and the Palace

AuroraCake · 25/09/2023 19:51

Buy yourself a house then or alternative,y give them better notice you are coming to stay. It’s a Victoria Ward story for the Telegraph so basically they would like a house. So would I. Buy one or have your office call their office in p,entry of times and arrange your stay.

MissElinorDashwood · 25/09/2023 19:56

It must be true then.

She’s one of the ones they like so I guess it is. Doesn’t really matter. Makes perfect sense he would like a place in the home of his birth. He can buy one though. I don’t think he’d much like rollicking around those places alone anyway.

Or give him a room in St James, loads of them have pied de terres there and Bea lives their I think.

They aren't short of spare bedrooms at any of the residences, why don't they just stop with the king!

How is he failing to do that? The palace have said that there is no intention to give them “a home” here, not that they wouldn’t have somewhere to stay if they came to visit. Presumably the need to give notice would be to enable somewhere suitable for a family to stay to be prepared for them. And presumably they don’t intend to spend enough time here to warrant giving them “a home” 🤷‍♀️

Invited to - couldn’t he was in Scotland and not enough time. He could have made more time too and arrived earlier to visit. It’s just a sad story of family collapse. All steaming really from the disaster of a childhood and the trauma of Diana.

Roussette · 25/09/2023 20:26

Ed and Soph's place has 130 rooms. For 2 people. One child at boarding school one at Uni obscene

Perhaps they could have a wing of that. ?

Totally agree!

AuroraCake · 25/09/2023 20:32

All he needs to do is give enough notice and they will make him up a room, no doubt wherever he wants. Apparently he didn’t so couldn’t stay at Windsor so he stayed in a hotel.

boxedandribboned · 25/09/2023 20:35

The articles say he will be able to stay at a Royal residence if he provides adequate notice. Seems fair enough. But as he has been keen to distance himself from the institution and all that it represents, why would he want to stay in one of their properties anyway? Perhaps Soho House would be a better fit.

As far as the failure to hand over a permanent base for Harry being bad PR for Charles - I very much doubt it! Comments on the Times, Telegraph etc suggest most people are very supportive of Buckingham Palace's polite but firm 'No'.

No doubt it’s complicated emotions and well staying is free.
