Is it possible that the climate change King flew his car to Paris?

Please tell me it is not true.

The Queen travelled to France by eurostar. Why not Charles and camilla?
The truth is Charles wants us all to change our lifestyle for the environment, but not him.
The Queen, not known as a climate champion travelled in far more environmentally friendly ways than Charles.

Someone up thread said that the French police, who were in charge of security, requested that they travel by air instead of by train, which was what was originally arranged

everetting · 25/09/2023 17:34

Why would the French say Charles should travel by plane when the Queen did not?
Sounds as true as the excuse that william did not go to the world Cup final because of climate change.
Hypocrisy is never a good look.

everetting · 25/09/2023 17:47

I wonder why william can go jogging in Central Park, but Charles and camilla can't even risk travelling by train for security reasons.

That was Serenster, and her posts are usually reliable
However I'd still be interested to know if it came from the French themselves or Charles's PR people, who have a long record of shifting the blame for their principal's choices

Interesting about the open-top car ride though. I suppose if Macron really wanted it Charles could hardly refuse, but I do wonder if he'd have chosen that for himself

Probably because of the fairly recent riots in France 🙄They insisted that he fly to Bordeaux instead of taking the train as wellSee here

King Charles angers eco-warriors by taking 75-min flight from Paris to Bordeaux

King Charles had originally planned to travel to Bordeaux by train, but this was shelved due to security concerns.

Where has the press said the French police said Charles and camilla had to fly?
And the riots in France were three months ago.

Where has the press said the French police said Charles and camilla had to fly?
And the riots in France were three months ago.

Several royal reporters on the ground in France for the tour (who obviously knew details of the embargoed itinerary well in advance) all reported the decision had been made by French police after the details of the intended train had been published in breach of the embargo, meaning the security operation necessary to protect the train was disproportionate. Even the journalist for the Express, whose critical headline was posted above, admitted that he knew the real reason behind the decision.

The BBC also said it was French concerns that were in play here:

French security concerns had also played a part in a decision for the King and Queen to be flown from Paris to Bordeaux, rather than catching the high-speed train as initially planned.

King finally gets to meet the crowds in Bordeaux

The monarch's final day of the state visit to France sees a warmer and more relaxed reception.

This is going to absolutely blow your mind, but about 30 years ago they built a tunnel between Dover and Calais.

everetting · 25/09/2023 18:36

And their flight from England to France.

Even more amazingly, they have ferries that also carry cars annd lorries across the English Channel. Every day! Can you believe it!

GreekDogRescue · 25/09/2023 18:43

Will people stop complaining about wonderful, gorgeous rich people taking private jets and helicopters?

Do these peasants not understand that royals and rich people’s carbon emissions are fragrant and blue, unlike the vile brown emissions that come from us common folk?

And their flight from England to France.

Presumably for the same reason. The security at the Gare du Nord would have been equally as difficult. It’s also notable that they flew in to Orly which is not the usual airport when flying in to Paris from the UK. It is the secondary of the two airports serving Paris.

CathyorClaire · 25/09/2023 20:49

the Bentley was transported across the Channel in a special lorry

God. That's a hideous looking thing however it made it across the channel.

<<misses point>>

He’s undeniably genuine in his passion and concern for the environment

Arf.

Even if he can't wean himself off using the self-aggrandising choppers maybe he (Willy too) could stop maintaining artificial game shooting moors and even stop breeding birds purely for the purpose of slaughtering them.

everetting · 25/09/2023 21:25

Presumably they flew to orly Airport because it was a private jet. Private jets often use different airports to the commercial routes.
It's strange that the queen's safety could be safeguarded going by eurotunnel, but the kings can't.

Different times maybe. The French were nervous. Ask them

Serenster · 25/09/2023 21:50

There’s quite a febrile environment in France right now, everetting, or haven’t you noticed? Macron had to cancel the state visit when initially scheduled - not something that would have been done lightly. Things were somewhat different when QEII last visited.

Nuttyroche · 26/09/2023 06:23

posting lots of detail about the royals and stats OP

and yet you couldn’t be bothered to look into this nonsense headline

if you want to spark up a debate, at least be honest about it in your thread title and content and then I’ll know not to click on it because it will be as full as dishwater and lots of people talking about the royal living in luxury (when to those of us happy with our life …. It seems a pretty shitty life!

Nuttyroche · 26/09/2023 06:23

You do a grave wrong to everyone on this thread by positioning it as hate filled.

It is a reasoned discussion.

I personally wonder why we have a monarchy. Wanting to discuss that view is not anything other than wanting to discuss.

The institution does not affect our day-to-day lives in any way

The institution very much impacts how we live in this country. An entrenched, herditary class system for just the start of it.

You may disagree but you cannot say there is "hate" on this thread.

"Reasoned" - my backside!

Your posts drip with how much you despise the monarchy. Nothing reasoned in them whatsoever.

When I am going about my daily life, the RF might as well not exist. If it wasn't for the media, they pretty much wouldn't exist!!!

There are causes I would far rather espouse, ones that do impact on people on a day-to-day basis!

I’ve pointed out before that the world’s biggest governmental environment organization designed specifically for lobbying the world’s governments and education and preaching to citizens about climate change and the environment has a headquarters based in Kenya, and it’s chief officers spend most of their careers flying between meetings in Africa, Europe and America.

Lots of people that care about and lecture about the environment also live within the current confines of travel expectations and current business practices.
