Did King C fly his Bentley to Paris?

EnoughIsay · 24/09/2023 16:05

Is that true?

Is it possible that the climate change King flew his car to Paris?

Please tell me it is not true.

Yes just as i thought re the OP and starting this thread

a vehicle for jumping on her soapbox

A soapbox perhaps but worthy of a look too.

Sneaky! 😂

Theunamedcat · 24/09/2023 17:44

I remember when the pope visited years ago there was a great amount of kicking off because we supplied a custom made car and provided security

KC goes to Paris takes own (most likely bulletproof) car and own security

Can't see the issue

Me neither.

As for the current US President working hard, he regularly appears not to be in full possession of his faculties!!

Strange that the OP would seek to defend that though, never mind the number of vehicles travelling, and the vastly greater distance to travel between the US and say, Europe...

Silly and spurious thread.

muddyford · 24/09/2023 17:51

I don't know but would have thought the Channel Tunnel might have come into it.

NoraLuka · 24/09/2023 17:53

I don’t think you can compare how the RF travels with everyone else due to the security issues, and what would be the impact on all the other travellers if KC wanted to get on a normal train for example? I guess it would probably mean everyone getting searched etc. and massive security at all the stations on the way.

The rights and wrongs of having a RF is a different question.

You just saved me typing it, mayorofcasterbridge

It always amazes me that Biden's sad and increasing issues get so little mention on here, and can only think it's down to (understandable) worry about getting Trump instead if they're focused on too much

VeloVixen · 24/09/2023 18:02

I do always wonder how US presidents get The Beast here? Is that flown over?

Am oretty sure the French can provide a bullet proof car,

The Pope thing is different as he is driven in a car with that bubble thing where he can be seen. As in the whooe point of that car is so he can be seen. As a religious leader.

I don't defend the American President.

I do say it is a silly comparrison - really silly.

King Charles is an unelected, unaccountable man who has inherited his position in life. He has extraordinary wealth. The nature of his life will cause a massive carbon footprint.

Therefore (for me) his positioning himself as a global statesman advocating on this issue is bordering to insulting. Ditto Prince of Wales.

Again - it is less about them travelling and much more about them presenting themselves as sophisticated eco warriers.
I do not think the two positions are compatible.

I'm told they stuck it on a Globemaster to get it to Ireland - don't know if that's standard, but it would certainly need a pretty hefty aircraft!!

I don't see it as a "silly comparison" - I think it's silly that you can't see it.

Powerful men, large carbon footprint = same effect on the environment. No matter what their background/position in life.

Admit it, you couldn't give a shit about the environment - you only want to take a pop at the royal family, spreading unsubstantiated misinformation that you can't back up!!

Ever heard the term, "offsetting carbon emissions"? Would you prefer they stopped doing that too?

Do you also get your knickers in a twist over the cavalcades that accompany the President of the United States when he travels, or do you just want to have a go at the Royal Family?

Yes

We are not the USA

Roussette · 24/09/2023 20:34

CoughingMajoress · 24/09/2023 16:29

Haha, of course he's not.

Remember when he took some crazy number of private jet flights within Europe within the space of like a week or two?

Or when the press found out that he'd taken 40 short private jet or helicopter flights just within the UK in the space of a year?

None of them give a fuck about climate change, it's one rule for us, one rule for everyone else. They all catch private jets and helicopters the way most people catch buses. Will and Kate own their own helicopter and routinely use it to travel very short distances, they all use private jets like crazy.

Well said

W&K use helicopters like we'd catch a bus. Let's not pretend otherwise

But he's 'heir' now so that makes it ok. BS

And @EnoughIsay yes I read about the Daimler on french press too

smilesy · 24/09/2023 20:54

And @EnoughIsay yes I read about the Daimler on french press too

You read that it was there, or that it was flown there? (And are you talking about the Bentley?)

edited to add a bit

Yeah, cost nothing. 😕 not needed

Serenster · 24/09/2023 23:11

Maybe you’ll find your reason for why Charles brought the Bentley in that article that has been linked to?

En accord avec l'engagement écologique du roi Charles III, cette voiture fonctionne par ailleurs aux biocarburants.

Also, he flew from Paris to Bordeaux at the request of the French police, who were in charge of security, rather than taking the train as originally planned.

Same environment - or is there a cut off in the middle of the ocean?!!
