EnoughIsay · 24/09/2023 16:05

Is that true?

Is it possible that the climate change King flew his car to Paris?

Please tell me it is not true.

@EnoughIsay the fact that Charles is a MASSIVE fucking hypocrite on the environment and always has been is plain for all to see. I never know whether to laugh or cry when I see people lauding him as an environment activist. He really has pulled the wool over everyone’s eyes. I sometimes wonder (because he’s such an arrogant twat anyway) whether he genuinely believes his own twattery or whether he slinks back to his palaces in the evening and has a good giggle with Camilla as to how blind people are to his hypocrisy.

It blows my mind at how accpeting we are.

They much spend tens of millions every year on soft and hard PR. A constant drip that eventually becomes truth.

And the worst of it is WE PAY FOR IT!

WE pay for our own gaslighting.

@Iwillpassthanks and they do that for a small fraction of the average month and then lounge around in the lap of luxury. I never understand why people feel sorry for them 🙄

Agreed.

The ratio of what they di vs what they cost has to be in massive defecit every year.

I never said I feel sorry for them

their lifestyle holds zero appeal to me

i love my own life and freedom and privacy and that of my children’s!

@Iwillpassthanks they have complete privacy.

You only see them when they want to be seen.

When have you seen them papped out and about?

They fly when they want to move. They go from estate to estate. You dont even see them papped on the school run, on holiday, nothing,

I am not saying they should be papped but I am saying that they enjoy enormous privacy.

Course they do! When a helicopter lands at Windsor Castle or KP to take W&K and kids to Amner in Norfolk, we don't know about it. That is what they do all the time though.

Exactly!!

@EnoughIsay you should get your blood pressure checked. Getting so worked up about people you don’t know and a lifestyle you can’t influence can’t be good for you.

Personally I CBA. You are making things up in order to wind yourself up. They can use a helicopter for the school run for all I care!

There’s plenty of other landed gentry living in luxury who don’t make any contribution to society.

mayorofcasterbridge · 25/09/2023 14:34

Iwillpassthanks · 25/09/2023 08:04

I read about their life and duties and for the most part it sounds thoroughly shit and boring to me.

Going to all those schools, community centres, galas… shaking hands, nodding, looking earnest. Bloody hell. Awful!

I agree with you. It’s a lifestyle of enormous privilege but it comes with enormous restrictions.

Not for me personally.

Op it takes seconds to see the detail behind this story

you were stirring

and given you’re all over threads talking about how the royal family are terrible for the environment, it makes sense

The RF are very concerned about climate change despite owning many large houses, flying helicopters and taking private jets.

However the hoi poloi are cool with this and are happy to sacrifice their one holiday flight a year to allow our betters a more comfortable life.

After all, Royal carbon emissions are blue and therefore don’t count anyway.

gogomoto · 25/09/2023 14:39

For state visits the government is very much in control. Flying is for security reasons not to mention practical as timetables are tight. Bringing a vehicle is easy as it will have been driven via the tunnel no doubt, being the chauffeur etc. government officials accompanying the king took a mixture of flights and Eurostar.

That is where we differ @mayorofcasterbridge

I do not see their contribution to society as being valuable. In fact I see their contribution as being very negative.

I believe in full citizenship, one person one vote. Elected representatives. Everybody pays their fair share of tax etc.

I would like a vote on the monarchy.

Agreed
but they have to be papped on all this royal duties and they can never just think… I’ll pop to sainsburys or I fancy a a mooch around town with my daughter or grab the keys on a lovely day, bundle kids in to car and head to the beach. I could go on and on

i find it a thoroughly unappealing lifestyle

does it appeal to you?

Never having to cook, clean or be concerned about budget or daily grind has appeal certainly.

But would I like a public role in anything I do? No. I would be very uncomfortable with fame.

But I have a dear friend who is right up there in terms of wealth - it is a very nice way to live.

They have much more freedom than we imagine.

Ah you see I love to cook, I enjoy grocery shopping, I love my job and I don’t regard life as a “daily grind”.

so perhaps that lies at the root of our differing perspectives

The public have managed to take sneaky pics and the Queen commented on their use of helicopters.

And if they were travelling by EV wwe would certainly know about that!

There are helipads at most of the royal residences

Yes obviously there are helipads and they use helicopters but we don’t know that they use them all the time, given that we don’t know who exactly is in the helicopter 🤷‍♀️. It may be that they do but I’m just pointing out that this is here say , not fact.

Roussette · 25/09/2023 15:26

I doubt the Queen would have criticised their constant helicopter useage if they weren't using them all the time.
THE Queen put her foot down and "curtailed" Prince William and Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge's helicopter use after they were "using it far more" than she wanted them to
2022

They obviously do. As does C&C. Even for journeys that can be done by car.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 25/09/2023 15:40

Why are timetables necessarily "tight" when they often spend days on end with no engagements at all, and up to a point can shift things round to suit?

I can just about buy the "security", though with its undisclosed nature it makes a handy excuse, but it didn't stop the late Queen using the train every Christmas, and that on a known route/schedule which could easily have increased the risk

As for the government being very much in control, I'm being careful with this one since it relies on reports, but let's not forget it was said Charles chucked his teddy out of the pram over fllying commecial - apparently BA's first class was "ghastly" - and had to be more or less told to use them

Roussette · 25/09/2023 15:47

If 'timetables are tight' their numerous aides and private secretaries need to get their arses into gear and plan better then!

callingeveryone · 25/09/2023 15:47

The Queen publicly said William and Kate were using helicopters too much. To say this publicly shows how unhappy she was.
William reportedly went for a public run through Central Park, a high security risk event, but can't take a car or train like the Queen did because of security?
They are choosing to use planes and helicopters.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 25/09/2023 15:49

No, I'm wrong; seems at least one of Charles's whinges about flying commercial was contained in his own journal, parts of which were published by the Mail on Sunday
They were later sued for this, and no wonder

As am I. Doesn’t mean I don’t genuinely care about the climate and environment

If you are using helicopters instead of cars and trains you have no business saying anything about climate change.

Carbon output.
