What surreptitious timing, Thomas Markle has been wheeled out again, let's hear what he has to say.

Whatever we think of Thomas Markle, to Meghan, writing the Tig, he was her "dearest Daddy" and she "owed him so much".

Was he not racist then? Or did she not mind as long as he was coming up with the cash?

She shrugged him off when she moved towards "higher things". He didn't fit as the father of a Duchess. The leaked letter was a set-up.

Roussette · 24/09/2023 08:47

I find cleaning my grouting boring, but it has to be done.

Whereas this..... 🤷‍♀️😕

Agree with @BadgerB
Same with Harry’s family and the institution. Harry and Meghan were happy to stay, though half in / half out, from their statements on the Sussex Royal website. The Queen said it was not possible and then their narrative changed.

What do you mean?

No one knew of Meghan at that point?

Sometimes these threads are like a ridiculous scattergun of random disparaging comments, often untrue, in the hope something will stick and other posters will join in 🥺

That is a lot of detail for a subject you find boring.

Maybe if you read my post thoroughly you would have seen that I (along with many other people) find what she does is boring. Her as a person I find quite intriguing, as I say in my post, if you'd cared to read further.

A woman who had a mediocre acting career which was coming to an end because of her age, who was never a Hollywood star or any kind of A-lister, is suddenly given a platform on the world stage due to who she married. Yet she throws this all away because she feels she now has the glamour of royalty with Harry and can now fulfill her lifelong Hollywood dream. What she didn't understand was the crowds weren't there to see meghan markle, they were there because she was married to royalty. One of the most (then) endearing members of the BRF, being Harry.

Without the backing of the RF meghan and harry have exposed themselves as vindictive, petty and untalented. There only success was in trashing the RF. They really are a train wreck in slow motion, and I find their increasing desperation and narrowing career opportunities, funny. Shadenfreude isn't a nice thing, but when I think of their cruelty to the Queen and her dying husband...

As @Zippygeorgeandbungle Desperation and cringe. WME won't save them.

MissElinorDashwood · 24/09/2023 13:53

Oh my 🙈

MissElinorDashwood · 24/09/2023 14:01

I often wonder what would happen if I wrote similar diatribes about the royal family and particular individuals within the institution. I sometimes write a couple of sentences but then give up out of boredom. I’ve realised I just don’t care enough.

Is this what it means to be indifferent? 🤷🏻‍♀️

So much misogyny, and just meanness. You don't know what would have happened to her career! Most actresses aren't A list, so what? Why say that disparagingly? She had a good career. You don't know what else would have happened had she not met Harry. Most of the royal family have never had a career or had to work hard.

Once again, the leaving has been placed solely at Meghan's door and described like she is some desperate out-of-work actress who married him for the 'fame' and left to pursue her dreams, not his or theirs. It's a disgusting thing to do, to continually blame women for decisions made by couples. They chose to leave as a couple because of the intense pressure put on both of them, particularly Meghan, and the effect it had on their mental health, including when she was pregnant and a new mother. When I think of the vindictive cruel behaviour of the royal institution and those around it at that time, and people online continuing to delight in anything they see as negative happening to her, well its a sad look at humanity or the lack of it.

The narrative is the whole world is watching the British royal family, hoping to marry one of them and use their 'glamour' to get ahead. In reality most people think the British monarchy is out of date and a little dull. Without the occasional woman marrying in, they're just a very ordinary looking quite boring family, just grotesquely wealthy. Meghan is not the first one to have a hard time marrying in, and I think it's a poor reflection on our country that people continue to target her and attempt to ruin any chance of their success and happiness.

colourwheelofortune · 24/09/2023 14:30

@Iwantcakeeveryday Its not misogyny to dislike someone for their behaviour. Misogyny is disliking someone for being a woman. I don't like harry because of his behaviour either, I'm also not a misandrist. I never said Meghan dragged a reluctant Harry away from his family. Harry has wanted to leave the RF for years and made no secret of the fact.

Don't worry, I listened to the whole narrative given by H&M during their hours long whine fest and its self serving lies.

colourwheelofortune · 24/09/2023 14:31

...and didn't believe a word of it. I pride myself on my lack of gullibility

Once again, they left because they didn’t get their own way with the half in/ half out proposal that they announced on Sussex Royal. The late Queen said no so they flounced off .
If she had said yes , we wouldn’t have heard any of their whinging.

I had never ventured into the Royal boards until Meghan joined the royal family .
Tbh I found the Royal Family quite dull
Whether her detractors like it or not her entering the family made them appear more interesting and they definitely gained more respect particularly in many Commonwealth countries.
Some posters seem to think that the RF is doing Meghan a favour by ‘allowing’ her to marry Harry. I would say it was the complete
opposite tbh. I wouldn’t want to be married into that family for all the tea in China
Harry and Meghan have been well received globally. I have family in Australia, NZ and the US and they love Harry and Meghan.
Some posters can wax lyrical about how boring MM is. The numerous threads on here prove that this is a load of codswallop

Mylovelygreendress · 24/09/2023 14:45

Just in case people have forgotten , here is their statement.

January, 2020

“After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution. We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family, and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen. It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment. We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour our duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages. This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity. We look forward to sharing the full details of this exciting next step in due course, as we continue to collaborate with Her Majesty The Queen, The Prince of Wales, The Duke of Cambridge, and all relevant parties. Until then, please accept our deepest thanks for your continued support.”

That really is a spot on post. Thank you

They obviously can't be boring if MNers are writing massive long posts to just ummmm say errmmmm Meghan is boring!
Reading that unpleasant diatribe about Meghan, is it ANY wonder they left. She never stood a chance. There were horrible threads on here when they got engaged and it's never stopped

Why not go on the sparsely populated threads that are actually about the Royals?
They need a bit of life breathed into them!

Of course people had heard of Meghan when she wrote that! She was an actress on a successful tv show and had started a lifestyle blog with a large readership which was promoting a very carefully curated view of her life. Good food, good wine, good friends, strong feminist and humanitarian values, exotic luxury travel experiences and a loving family. Relatable AND aspirational.

Some or all of that was likely not a reflection of reality, but it was what she wanted to portray. Then.

Errmmmm countless posters have said they didn't have a CLUE who she was till Harry appeared on the scene

I didn't

It's used as a criticism of her
She was a nobody out to snare him. (Z list actress, suitcase girl etc)

Serenster · 24/09/2023 15:05

Genuine question: if someone had in real life acted as cynically and deliberately as Meghan is accused of - married someone high profile for fame and/or money, made sure they were separated from their family, exploited that family by selling stories against them, say - would it be acceptable for members of the general public to not think very highly of that man or woman?

Roussette · 24/09/2023 15:06

I don't consider that a genuine question

Serenster · 24/09/2023 15:09

We might be talking slightly at cross purposes Roussette. Objectively, Meghan was famous and successful when she met Harry. Not on the scale that meant she was generally famous outside of fans of Suits, and nowhere near an A-lister, but she had an audience of fans and followers nonetheless. And she was promoting herself to that audience.

Her audience got a whole heap bigger once she started publicly dating Harry, obviously!

Serenster · 24/09/2023 15:10

Roussette · 24/09/2023 15:06

I don't consider that a genuine question

Why won’t you answer it though?

Serenster · 24/09/2023 15:12

Because it is a genuine question. That kind of thing does happen in real life. Heather Mills McCartney, for example.
