Be more classy, take a leaf out of the RF's book.

Are the royals classy? I think this would make a great thread. I’m sure this topic would generate some interesting discussions

Edited

Good question. It's easy to be "classy" when you have the media on your side portraying you in the way that you want (and hiding the parts you don't want to show), millions of pounds of jewels in the bank gained from centuries of oppression and theft, expensive clothes and acres of land and palaces to live in.

Sorry, that should be it's easier to be seen as "classy". Doesn't mean you are. That's the royals.

They spent 3 months over the summer on holiday.

Last public appearance before summer holiday - Wimbledon Men’s Final on 16 July.

First public appearance after summer holiday - 7 September. It’s clear though Kate and William had recorded “The Good, The Bad and the Rugby” podcast before that, though.

That’s 8 weeks, not 3 months.

Also, the millions of parents you refer to don’t bring their children up in the glare of international press attention and lifelong scrutiny.

Hey, don't let the truth get in the way of a good soundbite!

May I point out that you earlier called me a liar, and then tried to dictate how I use the edit function. Sorry, it doesn't work like that

I haven't reported any posts. They speak for themselves. Even your rewritten one under the edit function

Edit under Site Stuff is for spelling mistakes and the odd word here and there

It works like that according to MNHQ

skullbabe · 20/09/2023 20:21

It’s definitely the case in the rest of the world to call the monarch the King/Queen of England. That’s English hegemony for you.

This is not supported by what we know

To be fair, an awful lot of what you’ve posted is also complete speculation. You’ve merrily just told us exactly what Meghan thought about her father’s comments about her ex-husband, for example!

I never understand why people on all sides of these discussions don’t seem to be aware that they are basing many of their opinions on their own internal fan fiction.

@Serenster

I have gone to great pains to explain the sequence of events as it unfolded, and instances where Thomas actually confirmed what Meghan and Harry said in the docuseries.

Meghan has said she blames the Mail on Sunday for her miscarriage. This is how she feels, rightly or wrongly. It is not too far to imagine that to her mind, her father got involved (against her) in a lawsuit that caused her such stress she believes she lost her baby.

I have also been clear where I am speculating, eg, saying I suspect it was about this .. or they seem like any dysfunctional family based on X.

I have long given up hoping that posters who, like you, don't have much good to say about Harry or Meghan, may want to be more fair-minded. I certainly don't expect you to agree with me on these threads. You never do, and I don't expect to shift opinions. In fact, the more I and others push back on the rehashed talking points, the more unpleasant it can get.

But I am sure there are people to whom my narration of the Markle Debacle has been informative.

And it is always fascinating to see how people will bend over backwards to blame Meghan, even inventing open heart surgeries for her father, and even when her own father supports some of what she has said, e.g., a ticket was bought, a car sent, he had been measured for a suit in Beverly Hils etc. He confirmed all of this in his first interview, but no, both Meghan and Thomas are wrong about the arrangements because posters who know better have entered her mind and know he was too fat to attend the wedding!

As another proud Scot I agree with you and @derxa . I have lost count how many times I have seen the words “ King of England “ in print. So disrespectful- there is a big wide world outside of England.

skullbabe · 20/09/2023 20:52

Thomas’ size is something I’ve been seeing being mentioned more and more - it seems really distasteful to me because of the fatphobic ways some posters seem to reference his weight (and seem to ascribe their own attitudes to his daughter). Hmm - I’ll mull on it some more because there’s just some thing really off about it.

He looks like a guy whose given up on life. Not just because of his problems with his daughter, but even before that.

Every day there was another humiliating photo in the papers. Thomas Markle buying a new loo, Thomas Markle buying a six-pack, Thomas Markle with his belly hanging over his belt," Harry wrote in his book. From The Mirror

Evening, everyone. Just popping by to appeal for a bit of peace and love. Things seem to be getting a bit personal on this thread and we'd really like to get it back on track. Thank you. Flowers

Oh I'm not fat phobic in the slightest just think his image wouldn't have quite fitted in with his dd's grand plans hence he'd never even met the son in law ro be.

I agree

colourwheelofortune · 20/09/2023 21:02

@MrsMaxDeWinter It has already been established that Roussette wrote about 'open heart surgery'. I simply said he'd had multiple stents (which is actually heart surgery). An article I linked referred to open heart surgery, but I was referring to the article, not Thomas.

Just putting the record straight.

@Mylovelygreendress Good heavens! You're absolutely right. Charles is always referred to as the king of England. I've never heard it said king of the UK or King of Britain. That's so bloody insulting. I think it just comes from lazy media reports rather than the palace (they wouldn't say something incorrect) but what lazy journalism!

Or synecdoche!

Sure but the amount of people worldwide who think that Scotland is part of England, who don’t know that Wales exists and for whom the concept of Northern Ireland is a non starter would surprise many people on these fair Isles.

Totally untrue

I. Did. Not. Bring. Up. Open. Heart. Surgery.

I challenged it however

Well yes, we can all only post what we think surely. The evidence speaks for itself. One of the first people I'd introduce a husband to be would be my df. Very odd that that never happened.

Anyway, I was addressing a pp who wondered if folk were being fatphobic I was reassuring her i wasn't.

colourwheelofortune · 20/09/2023 21:18

@Roussette I'm not being dragged into a ridiculous argument. My posts are there as are yours. The article referred to open heart surgery. Please stop now. Perhaps you misread
