What surreptitious timing, Thomas Markle has been wheeled out again, let's hear what he has to say.

@Derxa,

Happily, we now have an edit function, and because I type REALLY fast, and without my glasses, I always edit my posts after typing them.

If you look again at the post, you will find all the typos fixed, with EDITED appearing under them.

Making two typos, and correcting them immediately, is not in the same category as hearing a story on GBNews or THE SUN, then posting in scorn because you think it was from SPARE, then refusing to acknowledge that actually, you were wrong, and instead, deflecting to mock me for two typos that I fixed even as you were posting.

They're not typos though. It's historically inaccurate information. A mistake dear Piers Morgan makes.

Janiie · 20/09/2023 18:50

'To the contrary, it is very much in the public interest to know that the future King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and 12 overseas realms, and potential head of the Commonwealth, a global organisation, is willing to resort to domestic violence when he does not get his way.'

Oh please. Maybe give Netlfix a ring you could perhaps assist in their Crown melodramatic stories. Giving his db a shove who then slips is not dv, you do a disservice to those who suffer actual domestic violence.

Did the public need to know all Harry's varied recollections, too many to mention? He's a fantasist, a gaslighter with too many chips on his shoulders. You sound an intelligent person it amazes me that you've fallen for his poor me guff.

queentim · 20/09/2023 18:55

PrincessOfTigger · 20/09/2023 18:33

Just to point out Spare is an autobiography not a piece of investigative journalism… even Harry admits it’s his truth, not THE truth. It should be approached with the same critical eye as any other autobiography.

It's a memoir, not an autobiography.

MrsMaxDeWinter · 20/09/2023 19:14

Again. I am unable to discuss the book with those who have not read it as the incident was more serious than your summary. Also, I have not said you should not post about it. There are many here who have commented angrily about it without reading it. You can be angry together, without me.

On your point about Thomas being too fat, too common etc.

This is not supported by what we know.

He was at her first wedding. He was also scheduled to be at her second, as he confirmed himself, he was suited and booted and all he had to do was come, even after the paps debacle.

Janiie · 20/09/2023 19:20

'He was at her first wedding'

Hmm a don't think an overweight socially odd df would have been an issue with a handful of people at a beach wedding. Marrying a prince with all the 'spectacle' of a massive event involved I think was a rather bigger deal, no?

As I said phew that he blew it and didn't show up so they had the poor us story right from the word go!

derxa · 20/09/2023 19:22

Really? If he was really welcome at the wedding then he should have been in the UK much earlier. If he was so hell bent on making money out of interviews then his account of being at the wedding and meeting the Queen would have been much more lucrative. He would have been able to milk it forever.
Never in my life have I heard of a groom to be not meeting a future father in law where it is possible to do so.

Serenster · 20/09/2023 19:23

To be fair, an awful lot of what you’ve posted is also complete speculation. You’ve merrily just told us exactly what Meghan thought about her father’s comments about her ex-husband, for example!

I never understand why people on all sides of these discussions don’t seem to be aware that they are basing many of their opinions on their own internal fan fiction.

Totally agree and in addition, Trevor Engelson seems to be a decent chap who wouldn't have been making value judgements.

Well said, given my experience of 'editing' on a post to me today.

I use it to correct typos as I'm a pedant. There's nothing wrong with that and nobody should criticise those correcting typos

skullbabe · 20/09/2023 19:40

(After the recent comments of the former head of Sky News about how the royal family manipulates the press, I think it's time for another royals and the press thread, and I am happy to do the honours!)

Yes please - those were very interesting threads.

They weren't typos. Mrs Max stated that Charles and William are 'the future King of England'. There is no such title now. But you know that.

I am amazed at you.
I know how much this sort of thing matters to you, we continually hear it. Someone quickly corrects that in their post and you have a problem????
Are we not allowed a genuine mistake?

It's a bit different to completely rewriting a post, it's making something wrong right. I would've thought you would applaud that particular genuine mistake.
I give up, I really do

I suspect that we will be going through the same thing with the next generation.

Consiudering the criticism the current generation receive from posters criticising them for being lazy and workshy because they appear to be prioritising being hands on, present parents (rather than the absent and/or warring generation before them), it seems to me that that is exactly the outcome people want. Or, if you want change, support it maybe?

They have 3 school-aged children. Millions of parents manage to bring up well adjusted, happy children while doing jobs, and without the extensive help these two get. That's why they are considered workshy. There is a difference between swanning off for months on end like The Queen and Prince Philip and doing one days work a week. I will give them credit recently for doing more and being more visible, but they spent 3 months over the summer on holiday.

derxa · 20/09/2023 19:56

I know how much this sort of thing matters to you You mean disrespect for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Of course it matters to me. I'm Scottish not English. It's a big part of my identity.

That's why I said I know how much this matters to you and I am not decrying that

But criticising a poster for getting it right is bizarre and really not on

She didn't post it! The poster quickly corrected it!!

What's your beef? Why are you saying this?

Good grief, are we reduced to trawling over an edit to score points?
That's what you're doing.

It's not a rewritten post like I had today. Totally Rewritten
Where's your outrage about that 😂

Janiie · 20/09/2023 20:09

'What's your beef? Why are you saying this?'

Why not? I don't have any 'beef' I'm merely contributing to a debate on a public forum. You often imply we shouldn't unless directly addressed by you, it doesn't actually work like that. I could say what are you saying anything when it was another poster who said it! But i wouldn't because everyone is free to comment y'see.

Roussette · 20/09/2023 20:10

derxa · 20/09/2023 20:06

She didn't post it! Oh but she did

And corrected it

Are you perfect? Do you ever get things wrong?

I remember you tearing me a new arsehole for saying "up to Scotland" once.
Endless posts criticising me for saying this.
I have been very mindful since to do my very best not to say the wrong thing to you since in this vein
Give people a break for goodness sake

Whoknowshow · 20/09/2023 20:12

If we are talking about edit guidelines, I thought it said that if someone is changing the context of their post then the advice is to report it.

An edit - even if it is a rewrite- is there for all to see. On posting something it is possible to think you haven’t managed to convey your point succinctly and an edit might help.

No outrage needed about that. 🤷🏽‍♀️

This with knobs on.
It never fails to amaze me that people take as gospel one side of the story (harry and meghans) when there is no other side. Dogbowlgate is as one sided as it gets and as Harry has admitted, sometimes he gets it wrong.
And as for thinking the Crown is a documentary, Heaven help us.

If @Roussette is referring to me "Well said, given my experience of 'editing' on a post to me today".
May I point out that you earlier called me a liar, and then tried to dictate how I use the edit function. Sorry, it doesn't work like that.

MrsMaxDeWinter · 20/09/2023 20:15

It's honestly okay @Roussette

I recall a few scornful posts from @derxa about people who read tabloids.

Yet here she is, getting worked up over a story that she can only have read in a tabloid, or seen on tabloid news, GBNews, and misattributed it to Harry.

I would be embarrassed too, but I would have had the grace to say, oops, I made a mistake.

I would not do an even more embarrassing, attempted-face-saving deflection over two mistakes (including mistyping adulterer as adultery) that were edited while she was reading the post.

It is what it is.

Thanks @MissElinorDashwood and @skullbabe I will do a new Press thread, there's a lot to cover: what happens when KP can't control the media (Jamaica, Lionessgate and now New York), what happens when the UK media can't control the Harry and Meghan narrative as we saw with Invictus, recent headlines on Sky about Kate's "arrogance" , coming off the back of that big Sky interview...

There is a lot to unpack.

Need a bit of time to put the thread together (and ensure no typos😉) but should be up tomorrow.

Back to Thomas. The pro-Thomas posters here know he has been manipulated by the media to abuse Meghan for clicks. They don't care. Because it's Meghan, they believe she deserves every horrible thing happen to her.

It is what it is.
