What does Prince harry mean by this in his speech at the Wellchild Awards?

"As you also probably know, she would have been the first person to insist that I still come to be with you all instead of going to her."

He is referring to the Queen.

Is he saying this is why he is not at Balmoral with the rest of the RF? Is this what he means by "going to her"?

Yes! He's referring to this year and excusing why he's not at Balmoral because last year he was unable to attend as the Queen was gravely ill and, as we know, passed away

IWillNoLie · 08/09/2023 01:13

It’s relevant to the awards he is actually at to explain why he was not there last year. It would be odd if he just glossed over it.

I am sure they spent the last year wondering why he missed it last year….

drivinmecrazy · 08/09/2023 01:16

I'm sure Meghan is 'upset she can't be there'. Obviously the babysitter let them down at the last minute.

ALittleTeawithmilk · 08/09/2023 01:22

The royal family don't dare risk being in the same room with him at the minute because everything they say will get twisted.

Well perhaps it’s Harry who doesn’t want to be in the same room as his family because he’s learned not to trust them. It cuts both ways.

At any rate then RF has a lot of secrets that it doesn’t want made known. Most recently in the news, documents in regard to Prince Andrew not available for something like 115 years after his birth.

Sneaky Fuckers.

The usual bitchy comments come out with any post to do with Harry and Meghan....

I wonder why people take it so personally. No-one is allowed to step out of line from the life that was bestowed on you by birth. Pathetic.

I say good for them for getting out of that golden cage. And yes, Meghan had to put up with a lot of racism. "Straight out of Compton" comes to mind.
Her plane had barely landed! I would tell them all to fuck off too. And certainly would not want to hang around to hear it constantly.
And in a family who openly wear racist jewelry.....

Harry at Well Child Awards

Just can’t understand people on here getting their knickers in a knot over this!

Princess Michael is a periphery figure, married into the family. Her husband is the King’s second cousin and Michael is her husband’s name. She and her husband are the Duke and Duchess of Kent, which would be the most usual way of addressing this couple. They have chosen to fashion themselves as Prince Michael and Princess Michael, which may make them appear more important in the eyes of the general public than they actually are.

King Charles isn’t responsible for what she wears, says or thinks. More closely related members of my family have been known to spew racist shit. I have no influence on them either.

Prince Michael is not the Duke of Kent, his older brother is. As a younger sibling, he is styled Prince Michael of Kent and his wife Princess Michael of Kent, as she is not a princess in her own right.

Harry’s grandmother was unwell and died around the time of the awards last year which made him unable to attend. It is completely normal for people to reference their personal lives in speeches and I struggle to understand exactly why doing so in this case is a problem

Honestly, it’s been almost four years since they left and the same old misinformation and propaganda is regurgitated like you’re still stuck in 2020. Aren’t you tired already?
Get a life and move on.

Misinformation comes from both "sides", tho in much greater, and less believable, quantities from H&M cheerleaders.

Of course. Thanks for the correction. The Duke of Kent also was on the balcony for the Jubilee and Coronation so it was a silly mistake to make.

However, Prince and Princess Michael of Kent are definitely on the periphery.

Did she? Good thing he told them, they might not have known otherwise…

Why would anyone care that they did a big interview about their family?

Families are complicated, theirs more than most. Surely people can understand how the bad feelings come about?

The people in the royal family are just people, flawed like the rest of us. The expectations that they are more than they are are totally unrealistic.

There are problems in every family but it is really shit to slag your family off to other people.

People don't tend to know there's a second Prince Edward or that there's a Prince Richard at all!!

Oh I'm glad it's not just me.

Because if the Queen had been able to express a view and had, as he believes, insisted he attend, then he's just stated that he didn't follow her wishes. And I'm sure that's not at all what he meant. Needs a better speech writer (or checker, if he writes them himself)

Lastchancechica · 08/09/2023 07:26

Well Megan is not there again.
That stands out to me.
They have apparently agreed to have totally separate plans and PR.

The marriage is on the rocks and has been for some time. Harry is going to find himself high and dry soon, now he is close to his sell by date and has nothing left to ring out in terms of dollars or inside information. They have now lost the remaining US audience, so are fast running out of road. Megan is launching a new persona in the coming weeks, Gynnie style and it won’t be including Harry.

Just what I was about to say! It begs the question why weren’t you at Wellchild last year then instead of fannying about with planes and angry phone calls and not making it anyway.

not to mention, he could have seen her before she died as he was in Europe. What’s the point of going to see your granny after she’s died when you could have seen her before?

Anyway. At least he’s turning up. He’s good with children at least.

Would it? Why? Surely no one is in any doubt whatsoever why he missed it last year? It's hardly the sort of thing you have to explain or apologise for.

Good with children?

After everything he has put Archie through?

Telling the world Archie has racist grandparents that questioned his skin colour, and then taking it back nine months later! Dragging both kids away from both sides of the family, so that they have no extended family beyond Doria. Telling the world Megan was suicidal when she was pregnant with Archie so he will grow up wondering if he caused the issues for his mother. Calling their second child Lilibet to cash in on the connection. Selling their children’s childhood to the highest bidder by allowing them to be filmed despite knowing the dangers of this.

Bringing two innocent children into this unholy mess is NOT being good with children!
