"As you also probably know, she would have been the first person to insist that I still come to be with you all instead of going to her."

He is referring to the Queen.

Is he saying this is why he is not at Balmoral with the rest of the RF? Is this what he means by "going to her"?

No this thread the OP started was about Harry name dropping about her grandmother during the WellChild awards - but I guess we can discuss everything

You are right, the post then meandered to MM's estrangement from her family and then to her brothers racist youtube channel.

People can claim to be anything on here, it’s an anonymous website. When people’s opinions on racism are so alien to my own experiences I’m inclined to believe they’re not telling the truth.

I could say that what you are saying is totally alien to myself. But then I am black. Are you@PrincessOfTigger .

MrsMaxDeWinter · 09/09/2023 16:19

Harry name dropping about her grandmother during the WellChild awards

Do you mean Harry talking about his grandmother, who was the Queen?
How is it namedropping?

Does Charles namedrop too when he talks about his mother, the Queen?

And all the tributes this week, was that namedropping too, or is it just Harry who name drops?

Honestly, it's ridiculous.

First he can't talk about his mother, now he can't talk about his grandmother!!

skullbabe · 09/09/2023 16:28

First he can't talk about his mother, now he can't talk about his grandmother!!

He can’t talk about his family at all - ever! Thems the rules!

Maireas · 09/09/2023 16:29

Well. Someone needs to tell Harry them rules because that's what he's been doing for the last few years.

Roussette · 09/09/2023 16:32

Skullbabe was joking....

It would be mighty odd if he hadn't mentioned at WellChild awards the reason he wasn't there last year. The Queen's death

If he hadn't mentioned it, no doubt there would be criticism he didn't say anything

She is not black. I would ask her to ask the black people in her community if they also share her sentiments that these experiences of racism are alien to them.

No we already established earlier in the thread that him mentioning that was stretching the credulity of and actually quite insulting to the people of WellChild because of course they knew why he wasn’t there - so just should have given a simple impersonal speech. 😉

No, I’m Mizrahim

LadyKenya · 09/09/2023 16:49

So that would be like me saying that anti-semitism is not a problem because I don't experience it @PrincessOfTigger . But I happen to listen when people are talking about their experiences of it. I have some understanding of it through the documented history of it. Do you see where this is going..? I would never infer that all those people who have spoken about experiencing anti-semitism are somehow not being truthful. How dare you infer that about black people.

skullbabe · 09/09/2023 16:51

Again not black and neatly skipped past the demonstrable racism in this very country which is apparently as alien to her but so very real to some of us. Don’t engage.

LadyKenya · 09/09/2023 16:56

I agree@skullbabe . I will just ignore going forward.

Except that’s not what I said so I don’t appreciate you misattributing it to me. Saying antisemitism isn’t a problem would be daft since per person Jews are disproportionately likely to be victims of hate crimes… but if I said that antisemites aren’t a small, vocal minority that would also be silly because they are.

In my experience, racism is in your face. Last year my brother was beaten half to death on his way home by a gang of men calling him a F-ing zionist, this was a year after a convoy drove past his house in the same part of London (through a massive Jewish community) saying “F- the Jews, we’re going to F- your wives and r- your daughters” completely unchallenged by police. And after a massive balloon depicting a Nazi-era caricature of a Jew with horns was also paraded past. And earlier this year in a park I got called a child abuser by a completely random stranger as well as given a lecture about the evils of circumcision (this woman had no privileged knowledge about my son’s genitals by the way, we’re literally just Jewish). And on top of that people still think it’s really funny to tell me jokes about ovens, etc. So when I read on MN that racism is so subtle I need an elite squad of self-appointed racism translators to tell me why completely innocuous comments about celebrities are actually racist, I do roll my eyes yes. The other part of my experience is that the majority of non-Jewish people are horrified by those stories and are not secret antisemites at all so it would not only be dishonest to say antisemites are a majority it’s also not something I would want other Jews to believe.

Samcro · 09/09/2023 17:26

There is Stange kind of feeling of ownership on these thread’s. That Harry can’t mention his own grandmother or mother. They are his family and he has the right to mention them when ever he wants

Maireas · 09/09/2023 17:28

Oh, who's said he can't mention them, I think it's the fact that he's talked so much about them it just seems more of the same.

Angrycat2768 · 09/09/2023 17:28

themessygarden · 09/09/2023 14:53

Let me explain where I am coming from, we are a mixed race family, my eldest daughter has a similar look to MM.

Now, if one of our family made disgusting comments about my husband and his race, or made a racist video channel making fun of either of my daughters appearance or skin colour, I can tell you there is no way I, my husband or daughters, would want anyone giving oxygen to that.

It doesn't matter if it is coming from a 'supportive' place by pointing out how racist some of my family are. By repeatedly referring to that as an example of how horrible they are, it is sadly giving a platform to ignorant people who really should not have any platform at all.

Saying don't promote it is not denying it, it is not minimising it, it is saying leave it to reside with the garbage, where only those looking for garbage go, it doesn't need to be resurrected and referred to repeatedly.

BTW, none of my family are racist at all, just to be clear 🙂

What about if your family were racist and you had gone non contact with them because of it? What if, after you had gone non contact, everyone kept going up to you and telling you you should make it up to them, or that you were awful because you didn't speak to them? What about if they then told everyone how awful you were and what a liar you were, despite evidence that they were racist?

It was a bit of an odd comment (usually something you say to a bereaved person rather than something the bereaved person says to others) but I don’t see what the issue is apart from that.

Indeed. Nothing and no one will stop Harry talking about his family. I hope it makes him happy.

I don’t think it’s a big deal if he’s saying something nice… I think he meant it as a compliment

So you're a completely different race to myself and @MrsMaxDeWinter but you've decided we must not be telling the truth about our experiences of racism? or have I misunderstood who that was directed at? Could you clarify who you think is inventing the racism they've experienced because its not exactly the same as yours?

You keep accidentally misreading my posts, it’s happened yet again, so perhaps we shouldn’t interact. It’s an anonymous forum, anyone can claim to be anything, and it becomes suspicious when it clashes so heavily with my own experiences.
